Episode 4x12 Discussion - After wewe See It

I decided I’d post this thread BEFORE viewing today’s episode, because I wanted to share how I’m feeling as we head into this two part finale of Season 4. None of us knew for sure what to expect this season. Those of us who are not spoiler free have enjoyed all the hints coming from the picha which were taken during the three filming sessions at Pierrefonds. We’ve listened ever so attentively to the various interviews, tweets, and comic cons. We’ve excitedly viewed the trailers and promo pics for the coming series. So, when October 1st came and we watched our first episode, there were a few things we already knew. We didn’t know details, but had some ideas of certain storylines, especially that Uther was perhaps going to die and that the pembetatu was going to be visited with a twist. We speculated about those issues and had a lot of ideas. Now we know most of it. Uther has in fact died, with Arthur becoming king, even earlier than most anticipated. And yes, the pembetatu was visited and yes, there was a twist. Many guessed that the kiss we saw in the earliest trailer would be the result of an enchantment, and we were right. For most of us, that was a relief. The last thing we wanted was that Gwen would kiss Lancelot being in her right mind and that the Merlin version of the legend would follow the course of many later versions, where Guinevere’s moyo belonged to Lancelot and there was actual infidelity. I know was I ever so grateful to the onyesha that they did it their way, and didn’t compromise our precious Gwen’s character.

But we’ve had a few surprises, like that short little breakup in ep. 5, the hilarious scene with naked Arthur and amused Gwen, Gwen stabbing and saving Merlin with Arthur saving them both and for the first time we get to see her leap into his arms. Soooo many precious moments, such as the handholding at the pyre, his hand caressing her face several times (new for this season), two sweet kisses, several nice hugs, and of course, the proposal. And heartache. So much heartache. zaidi than ever, zaidi even than 3x10. Of the earth-shattering and fateful kind of heartache.

I’m happy with this season. The biggest surprise for me has been that there has been no enchantment reveal as we head into episode 12. Spoilers indicate that after a three episode separation, with the “supposed” betrayal which ruined their lives still hanging over their heads, our couple will see each other in the final dakika of the episode. AND spoilers indicate they still won’t know the truth about that cataclysmic G/L kiss when they meet again. I don’t know how the uandishi is going to play this out, but already I’ve been blown away kwa this. I’m tickled pink that they actually went this route and didn’t wrap, upangaji pamoja the whole thing with a little bow at the end of ep. 9 with the truth revealed and a cute little makeup scene. I can’t believe it’s three episodes later and it’s STILL not known.

But what pleases me most is that Arthur in ep. 11 has decided that his upendo for Guinevere overrides it all. Do wewe guys realize the beauty of his decision in that episode? Sure, he mentioned the betrayal when he came to his decision, but I think we’re seeing a massive display of forgiveness here of momentous proportions and I applaud the writers and producers for it, because what we’ve gotten this season is zaidi than I ever hoped for. Not only are we seeing the extent of Arthur’s love, but Guinevere’s. Finally we got our verbal confirmation of her upendo during that horrific kiti cha enzi room scene and that he’s “everything” to her, but we saw the display of the its extent in her desperate struggle to get word to him in the last episode. We saw her worthiness to be Queen as well, because she wasn’t only driven kwa upendo for Arthur, but also her upendo for Camelot.

Season 5 has gone beyond my hopes for it prior to that first Saturday. There have been disappointments for sure, for me the biggest was how episode 3 was handled with the cut scenes, etc. But all in all, I’m happy with the season. Our sweet little Arwen has passed over the threshold from their status as a cute and sweet couple into one of far greater significance: the Arthur and Guinevere pairing of the Merlin onyesha is epic, historic, and legendary, something which can be denied kwa no one. At least kwa no one who really wants to be fair. And this will be the case no matter what happens in the inayofuata two episodes.

Arwen4-ever Quiet curious right now. I'm desperate to watch itm and everything, and I will. But not untill tomorrow night. So right now, I'm just gonna read all yours comments and rewievs and stuff.

Bonne-Bell The Arwen moment was really sweet. I hope that we'll get to see them have a conversation about everything that happened in the next episode. I'm also really excited about the Gwen/Morgana sword fight that's coming up. I hope we get the enchantment reveal then. And OMG, Aggy is going to find out about Merlin's secret.

missNST @HumbleQueen I liked that Gwen was in Ealdor and probably sent there by Merlin. It was a nice touch.

itsastart I always have more thoughtful things to say after the second viewing, but here are my first thoughts. I was stunned by the simplicity of the reunion between Arthur and Guinevere. In my mind I expected some great speech, or tears, or begging forgiveness, but this scene was short, sweet, and straight to the heart. I loved that it was simply "I missed you". The whole scene has been set up over the last two weeks and the start of this episode, and I think it was done superbly. The reunion left me feeling healed, certainly not resolved, but content and safe. I loved that Gwen was tending his wound, touching him physically, and that they held each other, and he buried his head in her neck. Just beautiful. Once again with them it is the little things, and I am sure more subtle touches will pop out at me when I watch it again. The fight for Camelot was epic, and the scenes with Elyan and Gwaine, WOW, heavy stuff. The show is definitely pushing its darker, edgy side, and I liked it. The Merthur stuff was funny, and I love the way Colin and Bradley interact with each other. Maybe a little overdone on the silly side, but I guess it helped balance out the darker Morgana stuff. Tristan and Isolde brought a new angle to the story. The way they loved each other really affected Arthur. I also liked how Tristan didn't like Arthur or his kind, which opens up more opportunity for Arthur to question how he will rule, and keeps him growing towards the great king he will become. Wow Isolde has some cleavage too, and she is pretty handy with the sword. It will be interesting to see this storyline develop and if they turn out to be "goodies" or "badies". Aggie must die!! Why is he so loyal to Morgana. I hope that part of the story is revealed in the finale, because I have been trying to understand his character since the first episode. There are so many questions in regards to his hatred of Camelot and Arthur. Hope that character comes full circle, and then AGGIE MUST DIE! Arwen is back, and I am whole again..........................

BradAngeleyes Arthur as the Village Idiot LMAO!! I know we've called Bradley our Village Idiot in the past (maybe TPTB) took note LOL! It was good to see Arthur taking instructions from Merlin for a change and having him wash the dishes was classic. Glad that Arthur did what he was told to do by Merlin, Merlin needs to magic him into this idiot state on a regular basis. It was sad to see Arthur watching others in love; Percival and that young lady, Tristan and Isolde. He was pining, you could see the one he loved was always in his thoughts and these thoughts were brought to the fore when he saw others with their loved ones. Glad that Merlin kept Gwen safe in his village with his family and friends to look after her and I loved Arthur and Gwen's reunion. Arthur must have thought he had died and gone to heaven upon waking and seeing an angel (no pun intended lol) tending to his wounds, I'm sure he instantly forgot the pain he was in. I still think the episodes are not long enough, as they go so quickly and everything has to be packed into the short time it's on. Next week we need to have a more expanded reunion between Arwen, a battle for Camelot, a Gwen/Morgana sword-off, a wedding and a Coronation! Ah, and I was right about the gift not being gold, it was in fact Frankincense, which was one of my two thoughts.

chattawak I liked the amazing fight scenes, the great balance between light and dark and the sex..uh sensual reunion. But I need a second viewing before going further.

kenya1234 Aggravaine hates Merlin for the same reason Tristan, Arthur's other Uncle that came back from the dead did. They blame Uther for Ygraine's death. Ygraine died in childbirth. Do we really think that they would not hate Arthur for this as well considering he also is a part of Uther? Their hatred blinds them to see the side of Ygraine in Arthur.

MISAforever I loved Arthur and Gwen scene. Simple and yet so much was said without words. But also many things have left unsaid. I want them to talk it all out. The enchantment must be discovered, must be! That's all of me for now. It's 2am, so I'm not very chatty LoL

kbrand5333 It went by FAR too quickly!! SO good; I cannot wait until next week's finale. I'm not sure Merlin knew that Gwen was in Ealdor or not, but if he did know she was there, well done him. I LOVE how Tristan and Isolde's love constantly made Arthur think about Gwen. The reunion scene was sweet; I loved the hug. You know they were both just overcome. She was definitely crying as they held each other; he likely was as well, face all buried in her neck. Merlin and Arthur's discussion by the fire: excellent. I love their moments like that. Not even going to address the silliness, though I did laugh out loud a couple times. I loved that when the village came under attack at the end, Gwen automatically became part of the group. I want Agravaine DEAD. I want him to die a horrible, painful, terrible, awful death. Wait. No. Too good for him. I want the "to the pain" scenario described in "The Princess Bride" to be enacted on [i]him.[/i] I want Morgana to tell Gwen about the enchanted bracelet at a key moment in their fight next week, prompting Gwen to fly into a rage and f*ck Morgana's sh*it right up. I want next Saturday to NOT be FLIPPING CHRISTMAS EVE.

HumbleQueen Just a quick comment before I go to bed. There was something about Merlin's "How's she been?" to Hunith that made me think he knew Gwen was there. I even get the feeling he was responsible for it. If so, I also get the feeling Gwen has refused to return to Camelot because I'm sure Merlin would tell her how Arthur's been feeling. I still am not clear as to the purpose of Tristan and Isolde except that perhaps primarily something to do with Arthur and Gwen healing. We did get a touch of it with Arthur this ep. but maybe next week they'll even have more impact on Arwen's relationship. I think I'd like that. I absolutely adored the hug. As others have said, I think it was perfect for the circumstances. The moment before, the yearning looks from both; written all over them was how they had been longing for each other. Soooooo real and straight to the heart. The hug itself, so intimate, sensual, and just lovely. I join the ranks of those loving his face in her hair, her neck. He kissed her hair. Really, and buried himself in her neck. I'm getting myself all tingly here. :) It was so right they didn't kiss. We may be short on kisses this year, but there is something so much more mature and satisfactory in a moment like this. We knew how he was feeling, that he wanted her back. Not sure how he planned on approaching the situation, and still don't, but it was not a time for talking. Not considering what this man is going through now, the kingdom just lost, life in danger, etc. He needs her now more than ever and she knows it. Before this, I think she had stayed away and probably not intended to return even if she thought he wanted her too, but there was that way she said "Hello, Arthur" and "I missed you," that made this scene. I'm not sure she's ready to forget everything and marry him, but I'm sure she's there for him in his time of need. You don't know how much I hope these writers can finish this off; because this has been dynamite writing of Arwen this year. Gotta go and won't be back until late tomorrow. Have a great Sunday!

Lucerne28 Another very good episode. Happy that Gwen and Arthur were finally reunited. How it happened is not how I expected to be, it was very simple, but the simplicity made it even more poignant. Very little words spoken, but you could feel their pain and love between these two. I really hope that the enchantment secret comes out. These two deserve to know the truth so that total healing can take place. Arthur because he has been betrayed/ let down enough by those he cared for, first Morgana and now his uncle. He needs to know that the woman he trusted his heart to did not betray him. Gwen needs to know of the enchantment because she needs to trust herself again, and know that she did not betray herself and the man she loves. Glad to see that all the core knights of Camelot got to play a role. The Arthur and Merlin scenes were both hilarious and touching. Nice to see how far Merlin and Arthur’s relationship has evolved over the years. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, it is time for Morgana and torch wielding uncle Aggy to die.

sportyshuie Allright, i havent watched the episode yet and been very very sickly today. It's sunday afternoon here and this blasted sneezing just wouldnt stop!! But i needed my arwen and got up just to view the reunion video and I am so healed!! It was short yet it made so much sense. They were both speechless; after going through the heavy breakup and with the enchantment issue still not known, i bet anyone in their shoes would feel a little like them on their first reunion. I understand their emotion and that short crisp i missed you phrase. The look on both their faces said it all! I for one happy they didnt kiss. There is still a long way for that because what they've both gone through was not an issue that can be resolved in a day or two. It's a matter of heart and time is the only potion that can heal them. SO with that ... i am happy. Nanna, i love what you said above and now i need to get to bed with my flu tablets kicking its magic ... so, will view the episode tonight and get back here. Promise!!! chattawak My thoughts about this epi? Well, I loved Bradley's acting - a very good comic work. Gwen/Arthur reunion was written well. You could see that Gwen was a bit guarded around him. I love her simple "I've missed you". Sportyshuie, I too think that Arthur and Gwen need more time to be completely comfortable with each other presence again, considering what they've been through. Lucerne28, I too hope that everyone learns about her enchantment so Gwen could be cleared. Gwen will never forgive herself and Arthur can never trust her again. I swear, while Arthur questionned why the people he cares for keep betraying him, Merlin was wondering how he was going to reveal his magic to him, especially in the light of Arthur finding out he's yet again been betrayed by someone he trusted. Arthur's line "I care for these people. What have i done wrong? Why do they hate me?" broke my heart. My concern? What happened with Sir Leon and Percival? Isolde and her xena-type outfit was OTT. I will be a nervous wreck to the next episode, ‘cause we all know that there will be a magic reveal! Sportyshuie, hope you'll be fine by then!

kbrand5333 And don't forget Liz: magic reveal to Agravaine = Agravaine must DIE. HE CAN'T KNOW. HE'LL TELL MORGANA. So there's that to look forward to. Good point on the Merlin's magic/Arthur's trust issue. If the enchanted bracelet is not revealed next week (and I still think Morgana will spill the beans to Gwen in their fight. At least I'm REALLY hoping so), I am SO fixin' to cut some bitches. And I think I'll have help.

Melisey First of all I loved the reunion. It was perfect. Words weren't needed in that moment. Well apart from the exchange of I miss you. After their last encounter that was needed to show where they both were at. That hug is my new favorite. Arwen did what they do best. Non verbal communication. Of course now we need the reveal of the enchantment. To ease Gwen's guilt and to reassure Arthur that he has always been her only one. And that she never betrayed him. He has been betrayed enough in his life. He needs to know that the person closest to him never betrayed him. I believe we will get it from Morgana. She is so overly confident. She will taunt them. Arthur has been through so much. This episode he lost the uncle he thought he had and his kingdom. It was hard to watch. I despise Agravaine and Morgana. There is no redemption for Morgana anymore. At least not for me. Arthur as a simpleton was adorable and funny at times. Merlin did the only right thing to do to get him to come with them. This may be an unpopular opinion but I didn't like merlin making Arthur do the dishes. I understand why it was tempting to him. But Arthur had just lost so much. I did not feel it was the right time for a friend to do that. Tristan and Isolde will be a welcome addition to the show. I love how Arwen was present all through the episode. From him telling Merlin he was looking for her in the room, to him watching Tristan and Isolde. Then the high peek that was the reunion. The writers have handled Arwen perfectly from episode 9 to 12. Next week we will finally see Arthur pull out Excalibur. And we will see Morgana and Gwen in a sword fight. It will be great. :)

Arwen4-ever So, the reunion, right? Loved it! With their song and everything! Just perfect and simple. For the rest of the episode, I have to say that they surprised me. The two latest episodes kinda got my mood down, but this one was hillarious. Most because of Arthur not beeing himself and Merlin was in charge.. But also because the plot was amazing. Great acting from all sides. Evil as well as good. Thoug, I have one question. How and when did Elyan come back? Was'nt he banishd? Or was that just me who thougt that? But all in all, wow, amazing episode and storyline.

kenya1234 Elyan was never banished from the kingdom. Arthur healed him from the possession of the druid boy when he apologized. Elyan was nursed back to health by Gaius and that was all. He was in episode 11. It could have been one of the deleted scenes that I watched but I know he was there.

HumbleQueen In episode 11 I think Elyan was in the throne room when Arthur announced he was going to marry the princess. But he wasn't with the other knights on the steps when the princess arrived. I guess a bit awkward, huh. Looks like we're all in agreement about the reunion. I didn't mention how much I liked simpleton Arthur. Honestly, Bradley was just awesome with that. My only reservation about some of those scenes out in the forest is that some of it could have possibly been replaced by some meaningful plot development. I'm a bit worried about too much to accomplish in episode 13. Great commentaries everyone. We all seem to have the same reaction to almost everything. Shu! I didn't realize you were sick. Get better! Quick!

sportyshuie Hi all ... hope i'm not late. Just finished viewing episode and i'd say it was really really good. It had all the ingredients in it; comedy (bradley's simpleton), action (gwaine and the fight), drama (arthur's reunion with gwen and merlin's reunion with hunith), fantasy (tristan and isolde), horror (aggy's feeling for morgana!) and adventure (everything that happened in the forest). I guess the writers didnt want to pack a lot of drama in this episode as the next is gonna be epic! So they allowed us all to loose up and it worked well with me. Never have i seen such an obedient and polite Arthur Pendragon! Even Merlin was a little confused but simple as he was, Bradley really nailed it here. Hilarious and cute, he looked so cuddly. I had my reservations about Tristan and Isolde's inclusion as part of the cast but i think it's justified as why they were needed. We all saw the reason, didnt we? Very clever thinking writers! I liked them both. As for the reunion, i already mentioned why i loved it and hoping next part they will finally learn of the enchantment. Though Arthur received Gwen back in his life, i'm sure the issue still nags at the back of of his head and needs to be resolved soon. Overall, a fine episode which wasn't overly done or half cooked! Apart from certain errors, the entire episode was well filmed. And now hoping the next will definately rock the life out from all of us. : ) Nanna ... the season for me was the best of all 4 combined. There is depth in character for all concerned and the winner here, suprisingly is not Merlin but Arthur. He went through such a transformation in his character that we saw him grow from a young inexperinced prince into a king who still makes mistakes and full of flaw but one with a heart. I liked the way his character has been developed and the relationship he has with Merlin, Gwen and Gaius. Really rewarding in every sense of the word. The triangle issue too deserved the credit because they ensured the thrash we read in the books wasn't repeated. I'm still sad about Lancelot but only time will tell what the writers have planned for him. Arwen ... well, need we say more? Overall, i'm giving 4 stars out 5 for this season and bradley deserves 5 out of 5 stars for his acting. Merlin, well ... 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. That's my point ... hope i wasnt long! Sorry ... Chattawak and nanna, thank you for the love and concern. I too hope get better soon as i'm not planning to stay in bed for arwen's christmas wedding!

HumbleQueen Wow, Shu. This was an EXCELLENT review. I agree with each and every word. Particularly of interest are your comments on the development of Arthur in Season 5. This indeed, is the big story of the year, and Bradley's performance has been off the charts. The range, everything has blown us all away. He deserves any awards that come his way. I have gotten angry on occasion with the Arthur character on this show, but never strayed too far from my affection for him. Now I love him to pieces. A couple of days ago, I watched a few season 1 episodes, and wow. I was struck by not just the maturation of the man inside, but he even looks so much older too! There is quite a difference, in so many ways, between the young prince and the young king.

angelmygirl HEY EVERYONE! hope I'm not too late to comment on ep 12. loved it all and the scenes with Merlin and a "simple minded" Arthur were hilarious. I loved the way they kept coming back to arthur's feelings for Gwen, how he missed her(like the feast scene) and the way they keep reminding us of Arthur's realization that Gwen means everything to him( when he is talking to Tristan and he says Tristan is rich because he has his beloved). they made up for a nice build up to the time Gwen and Arthur actually meet. Arthur's expression when he is talking to Gwen made my week. You were left in no doubt as to how he feels about this woman. Its a pity its come to the end of the series because i would have loved them to build up on what they have made us feel over the last 5 episodes. s4 for me has been great. the acting has definitely improved esp katie. ABC has always been super for me but Katie's scenes in the first 3 seasons was not so great for me, what with her just smirking throughout s3; but i think she outdid herself in s4. ABC were phenomenal as usual, giving it all.
