If Makos' scarf belonged to his father, then why is it red?

His father being an Earthbender.

Could his father gotten him from his wife (Mako's mother), maybe?

That would be the reason why Mako was a moto bender and Bolin was a earth bender. But maybe Mako's Mom was a moto bender and his Dad was a earth bender. I don't know for sure. But I think it's ether one of those :D

well in the the comic vitabu which is created kwa the makers of Avatar and in the beginning of the onyesha it says that the republic of nations were created kwa the moto nation colonies . In the colinies both moto and earth benders seem to harmoniously coexist with eachother in the the comic book series the promise part 123 there was this earthbender girl who considered herself as a moto nation citizen so she wore both green and red
