Do wewe ever wonder what happened to Steele after the first movie?

Hmm... I guess he's somewhere in town, and he's busy nonstop crying and sad

I don't know but originally, he was in a script for Balto 3 as a dog who'd jiunge Balto in his mission to rescue the pilot. I have no idea how that would've worked out but it could have been interesting if the writers had followed on that.

My theory is that he probably died. But he is neither seen nor mentioned in the sequels.
