Brennan sat at her desk, she was wrapping up the anthropological file of her last case. After watching Booth 'do his thing', as he referred to it, in the interrogation room, she couldn't wait to grab a bite of chakula with him as a celebration. Hearing someone's footsteps come towards her office, she straightened up and walked over.
"Booth!" she exclaimed, "Wanna grab a bite to eat, I'll try some pie?!" she teased.
"No pie, Bones." His face was filled with gloom.
"But, why? wewe always want pie? Don't let Sweets' maoni stop wewe from eating it!"
"It's not Sweets, Bones." He gently held her arm and sat her on her couch.
"The FBI have terminated our partnership..." He looked deep into her eyes, as they welled with tears.
"But, Booth! They can't do that! I won't let them!" She was bordering desperation. Running to her office phone, she dialed some numbers then waited. "Why aren't they picking up!?!? Why aren't they answering!!" She was nearly shouting now. Booth walked over to her and tried to take her in his arms, but she pushed him away. Grabbing her kanzu, koti she ran out the door.
Booth followed her down to the carpark. She had reached her car and was about to get in when he grabbed her arm.
"Booth, I can't let them do this! wewe have to stay my partner!" A tear was about to roll down her cheek when he brushed it away.
"Bones, I know they can't, but I will handle it. I'll talk to the FBI myself, they'll listen to me."
"But wewe don't have a doctorate." He sighed, another typical Bones comment,
"You don't have to have a doctorate to speak with the people ate the FBI. The Jeffersonian maybe, but the FBI, wewe need the experience of a cop." He winked at her. A small sign of a smile hinted in her expression.
"But what if they don't keep us as partners? What if I have to go back or, or, or...Be partnered with someone else?" Her voice broke in the last sentence as she was choked on the verge of tears.
"It doesn't matter if we're not partners, Bones. I mean, I would hate it, but I would still come and see you, and eh, we can have pie together!" He smiled and watched some of the sadness melt from her face. Taking her in his arms, he whispered, "It doesn't matter what happens because you'll always have a place in my heart."
