Book one is called the Name of the Wind and book two is A Wise Man's Fear. The story is about Kvothe, a retired hero, telling the true story of his life.
Magical powers? Plenty of them!
Unsuspect twistd? Even more! As for romance... well, let's just say I absolutely LOVED the chemistry between Kvothe and Denna.
Quick summary(may contain spoilers, though I'll try to steer clear of these); in book one, Kvothe is a trouper whose father is working on a song about an ancient evil group, almost legendary, known as the Chandrian. I won't go into details, as that would be a spoiler, but he ends up living on the streets. When he sells a book aliyopewa to him kwa an old teacher of his, he finds himself with enough money to go of to the far-famed University. On the way he meets a young girl named Denna, who tells him where she's going and asks him to go looking for her again one day. He gets into University, and eventually meets up with Denna again. But Denna isn't one to stay put, and often disappears in the middle of the night. At one point, Kvothe hears rumors about the Chandrian in Trebon, and goes over to find out more. I won't go into details as to what happens next, as that would mean a few spoilers, but I WILL say he meets Denna again. The book ends when Kvothe summons the name of the wind in a fit of fury when Ambrose, a boy at chuo kikuu, chuo kikuu cha with whom he shares a mutual hatred for each other, breaks his lute. This results in a broken arm for Ambrose and almost expellion for Kvothe.
In the sekunde book, Kvothe leaves the chuo kikuu, chuo kikuu cha for a while. On his adventures he travels to the kingdom of Vintas, where he yet again bumps into Denna. The two of them end up arguing, and then Kvothe leaves without even saying goodbye to her. I won't say what happens after that without giing away some MAJOR spoilers, but this book is if possible even better than the first.
Ps. I should probably warn you, the plot MAY go a little bit slow at times. The story is epic, however, so try to kubeba with it. kwa the way, I suck at summarizing stories. Some other good vitabu are the Hunger Games (superb book, but no magic), The Magician's Guild (Due to your requierments, I would strongly recomend this book and its sequels to you. Magic powers, check, plot twists, check, and some excellent Cery/Sonea romance!), His Dark Materials, and The Little White Horse.
