A hacking group accessed Sony Music's Twitter account and posted that Britney Spears had died. Video provided by Newsy Newslook

We\'ve lost many artists in 2016, but we can thank our

stars that Britney Spears is still with us, despite what you may have read.

singer had died, writing "RIP @britneyspears #RIPBritney 1981-2016," and "Britney spears is dead by accident! We will tell you more soon #RIPBritney." The posts have since been deleted and Sony confirmed in a statement that its Twitter account had been "compromised."

Brit Brit has been very active on social media since the incident, assuring fans the news was simply a

hoax. In addition to paying tribute to George Michael, she recreated poses from Charlie\'s Angels and reminded her followers to never sell an Angel short.
