My family pays little to no attention of the fact that Jesus was supposedly born on Christmas Day. For us, it's a time to see family and have fun. The most wonderful time of year - I'm not going to let it wither away idly!

Well... my family has a Christmas (eve) "party" every year, where we all get together, have a big dinner, and exchange gifts. We have a prayer before dinner, where we thank Yahweh (and I silently thank my gods) for things that have happened throughout the year and for allowing us to gather for another year.

So... we do both?

Christmas =/= gifts. I think if family and rememberance is something people want - then a nice dinner and festivities and things with family and friends would be great, but to have to 'out do' yourself every year by getting the hottest, newest items, the expense, the expectations ~ it is not even about the gift given to us.
