I think that quote has probably been memorized kwa every single Delena shabiki that has seen the sekunde season of The Vampire Diaries. It's certainly aliyopewa me a lot of hope that maybe Delena will one siku actually happen. The build up between Damon and Elena after the bedroom scene in The Return has been pretty slow to say the least. Even after Damon apologised for what he did for Jeremy, Elena told him he had Lost her forever. It certainly made me begin to think that maybe Delena should be put to rest, especially since Stelena was going so strong. I found the blood sharing scene between Stefan and Elena to be quite cliched, and only added in as an attempt to put something knew into that stale relationship. It failed miserably.
Things have begun to slowly shift from Stelena to Delena over the past couple of episodes- starting with the Stelena break up. Personally, I found the Delena moment at the end of that episode zaidi upsetting than the actual break up. Damon and Elena have so much emotion between them; wewe can feel it through the screen. I'm glad that once Katherine was sealed in the tomb, Elena didn't jump back into Stefan's arms. I hope Stelena breaks up for a long time, au even permanently. Their relationship has had its day. I'm assuming that everyone has seen the emotional scene between Damon and Elena in the last episode, 'Rose'. If wewe haven't yet seen it, don't read on because of spoilers. I'd rather wewe watched the episode first to see what I'm getting at.
'Rose' was the episode where Damon finally proved himself worthy of Elena. When he stood at the bottom of the staircase, thinking Elena would run into his arms, wewe could see the look of astonishment on his face. My moyo broke for Damon when Elena ran into Stefan's arms; the look on his face showed the realisation that it would always be Stefan- just like Elena had told him. Elena's look over Stefan's shoulder at Damon was the moment she forgave him. I thought that maybe those two would have at least another scene together, especially after she thanked him. I certainly wasn't expecting Damon to become a real man and do the most romantic thing that has ever happened on the show.
"Because what I am about to say is possibly the most selfish thing I've ever alisema in my life. I upendo you, Elena. And it's because I upendo wewe that I can't be selfish with you... and why wewe can't know this."
Damon knew that loving Elena was selfish. He knew that every time his brother, Stefan found happiness, he took it away. It was selfish, because kwa saying it, he knew that Elena would always have that doubt in her mind. Damon was the only one here who would benefit kwa what he confessed, simply because he would be causing zaidi friction between Stefan and Elena. Damon chose not to give Elena her vervain necklace, wanting to be able to remove his selfish act from her memory, and not leave her with the burden of it. Damon chose not to be selfish, all because of love.
"I don't deserve you. But my brother does."
Damon is willing to give up Elena, the girl he loves, for his brother. It is probably the most selfless act Damon has ever done, and it was all for the man he proclaimed to hate. Damon truly believes that Elena would be happier with Stefan, and that he should let her go. This is possibly the first time Damon has ever aliyopewa up on something he wanted desperately, simply because he knew someone au something else would be the better option. He isn't thinking about himself anymore, he is thinking about Elena and what she needs.
"God I wish wewe didn't have to forget this. But wewe do."
This is the most heartbreaking moment of the Vampire Diaries to date. Even whilst he is struggling with himself, thinking about how he doesn't want her to forget, he still goes through with it. He knows that it will be the only way that he won't stand in the way of her happiness. I think it is the moment every Delena shabiki screamed at their TV, a tear in their eye as they told him not to do it. Damon gave Elena up for love. If that doesn't make him worthy, nothing does.
