I thought the whole elixir thing sounded very dubious, and I was surprised that Elena and Stefan didn't even think to question if it would work or not. This potion has been around for what - 500 years? That's a heck of a long time. How does Elijah even know if it still works? I mean, did he test it out on someone else first?
Another thing I didn't get was how untroubled Elena was about the possibility the elixir might not work. "Then I'll just be dead." Anyone would think that she WANTED to die, for crying out loud.

i think that he should trust Elijah. He was honest about not knowing if it would work. So I don't see why they wouldn't trust him. but he was right to think that it wouldn't work.
