I can't say when I really think it will happen, but I think that S3 will be a lot from Elena's POV and struggling with the guilt of falling in love with Damon. And obviously there's nothing she cand do about it..but ITA with the fact that it will be a surpsise, like Damon's ILY that was totally unexpected.
