Disney Princess Were wewe disappointed that Merida wasn't as heroic and bada** as the advertising led us to believe?

I thought she would be even more heroic and bada** than Mulan and Kim Possible but she's not even close. I really wish she was what she was advertised as.

I think the way they made her was more compelling. But ultimately, the #1 reason I wanted to see Brave was for the accents.

^Agreed, she had more depth to her. But I don't think she really looked that badass to me.

Nobody who is called "bad@ss" ever is -_- it's the cool, hip word people (especially kids or people marketing to kids) say when they actually mean cool and probably violent.

but yeah, Pixar tried to make her seem way cooler than she was. No different than any filmmakers who try to make rebellious ladette types cool.

She was better because instead of being perfectly annoying she was flawed and grew in her story, brave isn't being badass, brave is over coming a fear, if you aren't afraid to begin with then you aren't being brave, and her bravery was admitting her mistakes

A little. I'm more disappointed that the film itself turned out different than what the advertising suggested.

No, cause I hate her, and I thought they portrayed her to be a brat and very selfish.

I was excited when I saw the trailer and was still excited when I saw the movie...and even now I love her even more! KataraLover Personally I hope they do not do to her what they did to Mulan and Kim Possible by making them "weak" and forcing the love interest thing on them...In Mulans sequel the love thing seemed forced and she seemed to have lost her awesome edge and when Kim got with Ron I just kinda lost interest with her (They just did not click for me) I am glad the main focus of Brave was on two women and not really the men and that there was no men coming to the rescue (well except the boys did help a bit)....This situation was worked out between Merida and her Mother and they were two strong intelligent women and the movie truly focused on the beautiful Mother/Daughter bond.....Persephone713 they portrayed her like the stereotypical rich girl (bratty and selfish), but then she learned respect and realized that the world does not spin around her and that her needs and wants do not come first(and should not especially her becoming Queen)

"She was better because instead of being perfectly annoying she was flawed and grew in her story, brave isn't being badass, brave is over coming a fear, if you aren't afraid to begin with then you aren't being brave, and her bravery was admitting her mistakes" I agree with you LupinPrincess!

SweetPea2007 what on earth does that have to do with her being heroic and bada**

I was trying to say that there was no false advertisement and that she is very heroic and badass and that Mulan and Kim Possible lost some of their heroicness and badassery when they made them have love interests

Actually they really didn't, okay Mulan kind of did in the sequel so I'll give you that. However Kim Possible still stayed a total bada** and Ron stayed a damsel in distress, although in the last episode that kind of changed up a little bit. But Merida actually did lose hers. I mean in Touch The Sky and the archery scene she's a total bada**. But like with the scene with Mordu she's pretty useless and Elinor is the one having to save her. She later has to be saved by her brothers because she's locked in her room, but I will give her credit for actually trying to escape unlike Cinderella. I will also give her credit for saving her mom but she doesn't defeat Mordu and actually kept on needing saving from her mother. So I think it's her mom that makes her lose hers, even though she has no prince, Elinor is her prince. I think this is the reason fairy-tales and Disney movies usually kill off the mothers, because they're trying to teach kids to be able to stand on their own and take care of themselves without their mothers like they will have to some day.

^ Why would you want a repeat of a character we already have? I heard so many people complaining that they didn't want another version of Mulan, I'm just surprised. I know everyone wanted a movie that featured a character going on an adventure of self discovery, with lots of action on the way, but we already have hundreds of movies similar to that. I'm glad that Brave was different from that.

While I expected a little adventure, I knew for ages that Brave was a Mother/Daughter love story, so whether Merida was a major badass or not, it was never going to be the main focus or concern of the film. I'm glad that she is as much of a fighter as she is though, and anyone who thinks she's not badass enough... well, let's face it, she could probably kick all our asses in a fight. And most of the Princesses too XD
