This film has a lot of plot holes and contrivances that weaken the storytelling of the film. This has an effect in the setting, events in the movie, and Belle/Beast's relationship. film has to be consistent in its storytelling and this is not.

This movie is excused for having the issues it does, and people say "It's BatB, so it's okay", and they come up with excuse after excuse to get around the issues, but they complain about the same issues in other movies. Can it finally go now?

So many plot holes! The timeline makes no sense. So they are supposed to take months to fall in love (Cogsworth even makes some reference to it in the long version,) but Maurice and LeFou couldn't survive that long, not to mention that Belle wears two dresses in order, which would not be typical for months. Also, there is the whole issue of Adam looking adult in the picture when he was eleven. Also, The Enchantress is the real villain in all this- the Beast was ELEVEN! Also, where were his parents? Had they just died from the plague? Had they been murdered? And why did the entire village just forget the Beast's presence- he's a prince, or at least some sort of noble who would hold power over them (the revolution hadn't taken place yet)- wouldn't they recognize his sudden absence? Why does it take Maurice so long to find the castle again (or, actually, he doesn't) but the rest of the village takes the time of a song to get there? There are also plenty of issues with inconsistent animation. How many different versions of Belle are there over the course of the film? This is a timeless classic because of the story and the message, but the plot has plenty of issues.

Is that the only thing you guys pick on about Beauty and the Beast??? Quit it!!!!
Anyway, with The Little Mermaid, I thought Ariel is just foolish for defying her family. It was also stupid of her to give her voice away just meet a guy he met once!!!

The plot holes are quite annoying. I'm not sure how long the course of the film goes and to many questions are raised. Like, what exactly is the Beast prince OF? And if he is a prince how come none of the townspeople seem to remember him?

@Beastlysoul25 You're entitled to your opinion but I think it's alittle unfair dislike the movie just because of Ariel's decision. That shouldn't be the only thing you pay attention to in the movie.

Seriously guys: What's the deal with picking apart the time-line of Beauty and the Beast? It's not even a plot hole, just an iffy time-line, which is also only iffy when you think that "Something there" and take one of Ashman's lines too serious. In TLM Kiss the Girl says that Ariel will speak again after the Kiss, which was NOT the deal of the contract, so exaggeration in the songs is nothing unusual. And if you really want to, you can pick every single one of those movies apart, because they happen to be based on legends and fairy tales. For example: Why didn't Ariel simply write down who she is? Where the hell were all the guards when Shan Yu overtook the palace (or anyone else for the matter)? There is: This is a serious problem and there is nitpicking, and what you are currently doing is nitpicking.
We are trying to find the strongest DP movie (not the one you like the most). And like it or not: There is a reason BatB was the first animated ever nominated for a best picture award, and to this date the only one with traditional animation and the only one before they raised the numbers of nominees. No movie can beat that, at least not, until one will actually win the award.
BatB is stronger than the other DP movies because it has more depth than them. It's not just an enjoyable story, it asked the question "who is the monster and who is the man" long before Hunchback and without being so anvillious about it.
And between TLM and Mulan, I think TLM deserves more credit for having a consistent tone.

And before someone says "but you are complaining about the plot holes in Aladdin and PatF, too" - yeah, I do, but that's not the main reason I consider other movies stronger (it's a reason why I like other movies better, though). PatF had to go not because there are plot holes, but because the plot is too convoluted and a lot in it is not properly explained. And Aladdin had to go because the movie is just not as timeless as the other DP movies....it's a one Generation movie, the next Generation won't even get half of the jokes and when it will reach the age of Sleeping Beauty or Snow White, it will be just a silly 90s movie.

They're all really good movies, IMO, but the animation in BatB lets it down

To many useless characters, plot holes and until I took my little sister to see it, I didn't know how scary it was, a mom had to take her daughter out of the theater because the Beast scared her to much.

Not a legitimate argument, but it's just uninteresting to me. I agree with rythmicmagic. It's not a bad movie, but it isn't in my top 20.

I chose this not only brcause of th plot holes, but it is how they contradict almost every aspect of thr movie, and not for the better. Some of the people are defending BatB, but complaimed about the same issues in other movies.

Swanpride picked Mulan:
Example? In my eyes, Beauty and the beast comes the closest to being perfect. Not one filler scene, innovative animation, great characters - the only thing this movies lacks is perhaps a little bit more time to iron out the last wrinkles (especially concerning the animation, the scenes which are great are really great, but the last minute scenes could have used a little bit more time), but compared to the problems the other movies have, this is nothing. Especially since the animation of both, TLM and Mulan, is pretty bland (for a DP-movie), all the movies with outstanding animations are already voted based on plot or pacing issues. Of the three left, BatB has the best animation, the tightest story (TLM has the filler scene with Louis and Mulan has problems to wrap up the storylines properly in the end), and nothing, not even the colour of the clothes is done by accident, everything has a meaning.

Jayden-G picked Beauty and the Beast:
Alright. The first one is Belle and Beast's relationship. The first day, he is threatening to let her starve and almost hit her (she ducked and left the West Wing), but the morning after, there is "Something There", and then in the evening, "Beauty and the Beast" happens. If it was to take place in months, they wold have gotten to know one another and to see what he was on the inside, but if it was in days, it switched so quickly. So Beast developed and changed drastically after 1 day? This would not be a problem if his previous personality was not so damaging as it was in the beginning, it would be another thing. So one day, he us threatening, and hitting random objects, but in like 12 hours, he is changed by her, and gotten over all of his issues? It also makes Belle look even worse, for falling in love with someone who threatened and witnessed being abusive a day prior? But the overall message is important.

I'm not even going to mention Adam's age. The movie, and company confirms that it is "supposed to take place in months", so if that is the case, Gaston's plan with Maurice involves them waiting for months to find and capture Maurice? It makes no sense. I have never said that this movie had filler scenes. Mulan's animation is supposed to be like that to represent the Chinese dynasty animation, so in that aspect, they did that well. I do agree that the animation in TLM is no that impressive. And you do not have to nitpick to find these issues. Just like a kid has figured the plot-hole of Charlotte and Naveen kissing, the Prince wish in Aladdin, and the confusing timeline issues in Batb. But since everyone ignores that it is not just a minor issue, people come up with reasons it is not. I do not want to discuss this any further before I get attacked by a bunch of Fanpoppers (not you) like last time.

Swanpride picked Mulan:
Every single relationship is in DP movies is a three day relationship at best. The point is that BatB shows the stages of the relationship believable - how long it actually takes is secondary, because this is an issue which has every single DP. For example the Issue I haven with Tiana and Naveen is not that it only takes a day for him to change his mind, but that he goes from hating to linking her with no in-between and for no reason at all.
And yes, the company confirms that they originally planned month for this, but they also said that they went for the three day arc instead exactly because they couldn't figure out what to do with Maurice and Gaston during this time. (Which was also the reason "human again" was originally removed, the song was suppose to illustrate the passing of time for the servants).
Concerning Adam's age: There are a lot of possible explanations when you ignore the cheapquel. The most obvious that Lumiere exaggerates when he talks about ten years (the beast is clearly a teenager in the picture Belle finds, not a child). Another is that the spell also slowed down time (it also put the castle permanent under winter weather after all).
As I said, what makes BatB so strong is that it isn't a simple good against evil story, but a story about how society perceives other people, how society creates monster and above all how true beauty is found within. It's not just "a" adaptation of the original story, it's THE adaptation. I could give you at least one adaptations of TLM which I consider better than the Disney version.
