Divergent Article: Divergent and Hunger Games comparison

There is a lot going around that Divergent is a rip off of The Hunger Games. I don't agree. I like them both equally but I don't see them being the same. there are notable differences between the two.

Let's start with the obvious:

The kids in Divergent aren't fighting in a game of life au death on television.

Yes, they both take place in dystopian worlds but their dystopian worlds are different than eachother. in Katniss's it's poverty, with Tris, she has it a little better than Katniss.

But really, I don't like them being compared to eachother. it was the same with Harry potter and Twilight and look how that turned out.

Comparisons are stupid, especially when there are barely any similarities and the person who is comparing thinks that the movie/book/tv show/etc that came out first was the first one to think of a general idea (such as the dystopian setting, etc).

pearlxashxdawn This is all just plain stupid to compare Hunger Games and Divergent... Both are very intriguing and addicting yet they have many differences... People these days -_-

Pinnipedi I wholeheartedly agree. It's stupid to say they're the same just because they're both dystopian. That's basically just calling all dystopian stories unoriginal. And to say they're the same because they both have strong female protagonists... that's not just stupid, it's sexist. Yes, they do have similarities, but not enough to say they're exactly the same. I read Divergent ages ago. I'm reading the Hunger Games now and I don't think it's the same at all. In fact, it's completely different.
