Domhnall Gleeson says filming The Revenant with Leonardo DiCaprio was ‘super intense’

If you’ve been to the cinema recently, chances are you’ve seen Domhnall Gleeson. There he was as General Hux, a hopeless officer of the fascist First Order in Star Wars. Before that he played Jim Farrell, a failed suitor in Brooklyn, the unassumingly brilliant adaptation of Colm Toibin’s book.

Next up is The Revenant, a grisly snow-covered epic about fur trappers that might win the lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar. Gleeson plays Captain Andrew Henry, a man of quiet determination who manages to follow his moral compass through the vicious backwaters of the American West.

At 32, Gleeson has notched up a string of quirky supporting roles: Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter films, Konstantin Levin in Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina, the good kid Moon who dies a horrible death in True Grit.
