kusoma ‘Never Let Me Go’ kwa Kazuo Ishiguro took me a while because it was a book we were assigned to read in my english class. We all know how we feel about vitabu we have to read for college. We either never do read them and hope for the best, au we just end up doing it because we need to (or that’s just me). I ended up kusoma it and it was possibly the one thing I’m extremely proud of doing in January. I called my mom frantically after finishing it, asking her to buy it and read it as soon as she can. I was surprised for her to tell me, after starting it, that it is a hard read due to the fact that there are a lot of information and it is complex.
If you’re into cool vitabu that involve cloning and issues in a parallel (and not only) society with a pinch of teen drama and upendo stories, you’re in for a good time.
The story is narrated kwa Kathy as she looks back on her life at Hailsham (the boarding school she and her Marafiki attended), upendo stories and life as a clone in the end of the 20th century. The whole book is extremely intimate and we grow to get attached to her and her friends, Ruth and Tommy as they go through their lives. The problems of our society are beautifully masked in the dystopian society they live in. kwa the end of the book, we know all about them, their school, the donations and the mystery we are handed in the beginning about their “completion” (basically dying) at young age is solved. It’s a beautiful story about friendship and what it means to truly care. The book is filled with a lot of description and many plots that constantly change between each other.
Overall, this book made me sob like hell, made me want to hold on tight to my Marafiki and onyesha them all my love. So yes. If you’re looking for the inayofuata book to read, ‘Never Let Me Go’ is the answer.
