I don't bother reading ALL the picks anymore which is sad because it used to be a reason I logged on.
The person who picked no before changed their vote...interesting.
However how does a new member know if a pick has been used or not? Should they scroll through the numerous pages to have a look, can they search for a pick 'key word'??
I think from a community point of view this is just wrong; it could be seen as "Your contribution does not count"...Maybe a different system could be used, but deletion by a moderator should not be one of them, An e-mail, Private Message, Forum, Warnings...???
I don't know but you have to make it fair for everyone and someone just checking out the site and then deciding to add a pick may not come back if we turn around and delete it because they did not have the foresight to check if the pick was done before...
I hate to disagree with the majority but sometimes we forget that we were new, we made the mistakes and we were guided onto a better path by the more experienced members, deletion is not the way!
- After reading the question again...maybe the person who created the site should moderate it..? They could add moderator remarks..."Thus; politely pointing out that the Pick has been done before and that it has been moved to a archive section of the spot...?
I think the idea of a moderator for a spot is a good one...you get them for every forum you go on...Also it gives a little responsibility to the person that starts the spot...
I may be a little work for the people that have started a lot of spots but it comes with the territory...
I agree with the spot creators having more control but there are still over-zealous people who will definitely abuse of that privilege as well. I think Fanpop should have full control of what goes on in spots that way everything remains fair. In a perfect world your idea is brilliant Dominator.
One idea is that as the quantity of picks gets larger and more cumbersome in an individual spot would be the idea of grouping picks into collections or clusters. These pick lists be editorially selected (by someone like kathiria82 or another fan) which might mean a more discriminating selection of picks questions. I dunno, I'm just thinking out loud here...
But we've also spent time thinking about a class of spots that would give the creators more control too. There's a lot of give-and-take and balance considerations that need to be thought through before we move on any of these though.
but thanks for all the thoughtful comments. I see fanpop as an evolutionary process (where we iterate and improve the site over time with a lot of user input).
P.S. Dave, I'm glad you notice how annoying the One Tree Hill spot is too. :)
