* The gray mbwa mwitu can actually range in color from pure white to solid black, but the most common shade is a tawny brown in which the wolf's guard hairs are banded with black, white, dhahabu and brown. This banded coloration is known as agouti, and is found in a number of wild species.

Mates/Breeding

Choosing to take a mate/breed is a very serious matter because it affects rank. If a lower-ranking subordinate becomes mates with a higher-ranking wolf, that mbwa mwitu also becomes a higher rank. If any mbwa mwitu - no matter what rank - were to become mates with an omega, that mbwa mwitu would automatically become an omega as well. The only possible exceptions are the alpha and medic; a beta would also become an omega.

Pack Roles

Alpha & Beta
Alpha and beta's roles are very similar to Clan leader and deputy. They, along with their respective mates, lead the pack and lookout for their well being. Ultimately the alpha has the final say on any matter. (Note: any gender may be alpha/beta.)
