What Will Be the Final Scene of “Mother’s Mercy”? 

With only two episodes to go before the long cold winter between seasons sets in, there’s one big question that’s still on everyone’s minds: how will this season end?

We’ve got quite a few hints that there’re terrible things on the way. Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) told us there’s a scene

that comes “towards the end of the season.” Emilia Clarke promised that

And Daniel Portman (Podrick Payne) threatened that the end of Episode Ten will, and we quote,

So what could they all be referring to? In truth, it’s probably three different scenes. Cunningham’s character is with Stannis, and if the Mannis listens to Melisandre and sacrifices Shireen, there will definitely be a reaction. Clarke, meanwhile, is over in Meereen, and if the pictures are any indication, there’s going to be a helluva scene coming in Daznak’s Pit, and we’re not just talking some

But what could Portman be talking about? Are Pod and Brienne part of it? That would be very interesting, because we do know one thing about the final scene of the season. Benioff and Weiss casually mentioned it in one of their pre-season interviews. 

“The very first scene of the season and the very last scene of the season are book scenes.”

As we all know, that “very first” scene of the season was straight from

, Cersei V, and was the flashback of Young Cersei and the prophecy of Maggy the Frog.

I am going to propose four wild theories for this, all of which are book scenes, and all of which are possibilities.

1. The Return of Varys: This would be the most accurate ending the show could go with: end the season with the very last scene of the very last book that’s been published so far. For those familiar with

, we’re talking about the epilogue. In it, Kevan Lannister has returned to King’s Landing and restored order after the months and months of chaos stemming from Cersei’s mismanagement. He’s already realized how awful the Tyrells are, but they have Randyll Tarly (Sam’s father) on their side, and their armies are basically keeping order, something that’s more important than ever as the snow starts falling. But before Kevan can make any more decisions, he is tricked into going to Pycelle’s room, where he finds the Grand Maester dead, and is then himself murdered with a crossbow, much like Tywin before him. The murders are meant to echo Tywin’s death, in order to arouse suspicion. The real murderer who steps out of the shadows is Varys, who had been missing ever since Tyrion’s escape at the end of

Varys has been missing ever since Tyrion was kidnapped by Jorah. Kevan Lannister is on his way back to the Red Keep to take charge, and Pycelle is working for him. It makes sense that their murders happen together and at the end of the series. It may even make sense to have Varys be the one to do it, as it will return him to King’s Landing after his detour in Essos.

This moment is the big reveal that Varys was working for the Targaryens the entire time, and his claim for killing Kevan is that he’s doing too good a job reuniting the Kingdoms behind Tommen. Chaos, in his words, is what is necessary to make it easier for the Targaryens to return to power. But we’ve already had the big reveal of who Varys was working for the whole time, and more importantly, the show gave him dialogue regretting the chaos that was sewn. So this wouldn’t make a lot of sense. Besides, the Targaryen he’s sewing discord for is the (so far cut) Aegon Targaryen, not Dany. But in the show, Varys is looking to work for Dany, and to work with her directly, instead of this weird preparing for a Targaryen return that those returning are not involved in, nor might not actually want.

2. Dany’s Return to the Khalasar: This would be the most traditional ending the show could go with. But first, let’s get the big probable spoiler for this coming week out of the way, because this ending is predicated on it. Dany will be rescued from the Sons of the Harpy’s murdering knives and her terrible new husband by Drogon. He flies in, she jumps on his back and flies away, leaving the chaos and mess she’s made of Meereen behind. In the final (regular) chapter of

, Daenerys X, we learn that she can’t control Drogon, and she can’t get him to take her back. Instead, the flight and the stress and the lack of clean water and food on her journey back to Meereen leaves her sick and plagued with hallucinations. To end on this note would mean more visions in the vein of Bran’s visions in the weirwood tree, and would also make a nice bookend to Cersei’s flashback at the very beginning of the episode. When she wakes up, she discovers a clan of Dothraki nearby, she rides Drogon over and lands in front of them, with the idea to return to the last place things made sense and start over.

Two of our four seasons (Seasons 1 and 3) have ended on Dany’s story, first with the birth of her dragons and then with her freeing the slaves of Yunkai. Ending the season on her next big step would be in keeping with that. Season 2 also basically ended with her—only the White Walker epilogue with Sam bumpered that. In many ways, Dany is the last hero left in the novels, the savior Westeros is waiting for, and although she is across the Narrow Sea, ending the season with her would remind us that this is her story.

Though Dany taking herself back to the Dothraki people represents a reset for her, that’s not really something that’s going to break the internet, is it? This is not couch pillow-clutching stuff. It is very “season finale conclusion,” but if we’re looking for shock and awe, this isn’t going to fit.

“Every time you ask when the next book is due, GRRM kills a Stark”

goes the meme, and for the third time in five books, Martin returned to that well in

A Dance with Dragons. The third to last regular chapter in that book, Jon XIII,  leads us to yet another culmination of misdirection, unreliable narrator, and once again, playing on our belief that the hero cannot die, at least, not before the big battle. Yes, everyone, you haven’t been imagining the foreshadowing of Angry Olly. Stannis is right: Jon is the same honorable fool that Ned was, and that’s what gets him killed. But it’s not even peace with the wildlings that pushes things over the edge. It’s Jon receiving the news that “Arya” (or in the show’s case Sansa) is married to Ramsay Bolton, and being tortured and raped. After all that insistence that he wouldn’t go south with Stannis, he gets caught up in the moment, and declares that the Watch will go South and rescue his sister and free Winterfell. It is the last straw. In a moment reminiscent of Caesar’s death, Jon is lured into a circle of mutineers who stab him over and over while crying, “For the Watch.”

If I was a betting woman, my money would be on this. Watching Jon be betrayed by his Black Brothers, stabbing him over and over, when he’s the last traditional hero and the last Stark really left standing? Hysteria. Especially if they literally cut it off as Jon blacks out, with no indication of whether he survives, like in the books. Black out, cliff hanger, freak out. Couch pillows clutched, YouYube vids of horrified unsuspecting viewers, the sobbing and screaming of the Unsullied asking once again why gods why? The rage of those who realize they have not been fooled not once, not twice, but three times in a row by this show, via the same damn trick. It’ll be anarchy.

…But what if Jon’s blackout isn’t the end of the season. What if… What if everything book fans have been hoping and praying and waiting for these last four years since

was released is given to us, here, now, this day. There’s one thing book readers have wanted, more than Dany and Tyrion’s meeting, more than the Hardhome Massacre showing just a taste of Winter’s bite. What if the ending scene isn’t Jon’s death—what if it’s his resurrection, revealing him to be Azor Ahai reborn?

4. Mother’s Mercy See that title? Though some of us assume this is a reference to Cersei’s Walk of Shame (a huge scene that will take up a good chunk of Episode 10), the moment it was released, everyone else immediately thought back to another mother, one that’s been dead now for two seasons, and one the

fandom has been fervently hoping will reappear, despite the fact that there is no sign of her week after week. If this is in fact the ending scene, it would not come from the final chapters of

, Brienne VIII. Let go of the fact that the way Brienne’s injuries in the books are sustained has been done away with—Biter and company were all collectively wiped out by Arya and the Hound in the middle of last season. Instead, let us imagine that when Stannis reaches Winterfell at the end of the season, there is a great Battle between his host and the Boltons’. Brienne takes this as her cue to try and rescue Sansa, but upon seeing Stannis, forgets everything and attacks him, perhaps even killing him, giving the Boltons the win, and probably being badly attacked by Davos, Melisandre, and gods know who else in the process. This would be a sensible way to sustain the injuries needed. When she awakens, she has been taken by the Brothers Without Banners, and brought before Lady Stoneheart.

Well, I will say one thing. Fans are a stubborn lot, and they want to believe. And frankly, this one, though the most far-fetched of them all, has one big argument going for it—namely that Daniel Portman would actually be in the scene.

All of them, I’m afraid. I mean, when the producers say “she’s not in the show” and George R.R. Martin says “I’m sorry she’s been cut from the show,” I would be pretty certain she’s been, you know, cut from the show.

But if this did happen, you have to admit, it would break the internet.

Dany flying away on Drogon. Escaping imminent death in fighting pits…

– Sansa Stoneheart – Sansa is killed during Brienne/Stannis’ attack on Winterfell. She is brought back by Melissandre and becomes Stannis’ Stark pawn in reclaiming the North. This would be a good twist in Brienne’s plot: Protect Sansa or claim vengeance on Stannis for Renly’s death. Would Mel decide to become a loyal servant of Sansa Stoneheart?

– Stannis sacrifices Shireen – That would be a really awful/emotional way to end the season.

2 Varys Reveal in which he could steal Doran’s Fire & Blood line (since the Martell in Mereeen isn’t in play) which segues to…

3 Dany & the Khalasar – The Showrunners have accelerated the plot lines so we’re not on the last two books for seasons 5 & 6. I think everyone agrees that the blood of the dragon needs to get to Westeros to take the throne but more importantly the Wall doesn’t have enough Dragonglass or Valyrian steel swords. They need dragons. She’ll also need a giant Khalasar, her Unsullied and the Second Sons to take back the kingdoms. Showing Dany’s ready to roll on the season finale is exactly how I see this playing out. Also note that Dany’s gotten pretty steely and intense this season, especially after the loss of Barristan. She’s going to get real by the season finale. Take it to the Iron Bank!

I have a feeling it will be a mix of things including some early scenes from Winds of Winter, walk of shame, Jon being stabbed (the show confirming if he lives/dies/reborn as Azor Ahai), Dany meeting the Dothraki, perhaps Tommen dying?

It’s Lady Stoneheart. It must be. The situation is perfect. Everybody is skeptical, the producers and GRRM are dropping hints that she’s been cut entirely. LS has been sort of “anti-built up” for 2 years now. The anticipation for Ned’s execution, the Red Wedding, not even “For the Watch” comes close to Lady Stoneheart. Virtually nobody expects her appearance at this point and David and Dan know it. They know people would flip their shit and return next year in incredible numbers. Mark my words, my friends. Lady Stoneheart lives.

Uh huh. I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then I’m just face palming at all these people attempting to ‘call it’.

I mean, it’s a 50/50 chance, so there’s no prophecy here. Either she’s cut or she’s not.

Bran’s vision in season 4 where the dragon is flying over KL could have been a foreshadowing of the end of season 5 of Dany flying over KL with Drogon…”Dany is among strangers.” I know this could be the Dothraki or it could be among Westeros where she also is a stranger.

If they want to end the series within at least 8 seasons, they will need to start combing story lines.

Just remembered that scene is in Episode 9, sorry. Also, that would be some impossibly fast flying for her to reach Dorne by Episode 10.

It’s Jon’s FTW moment. LS is cut. They will probably add something else to the very ending of that moment–eyes opening up–warging into Ghost, etc….but it will mostly remain a scene from the books.

Ramsey will kill the princess Shereen ….

Even if “For the Watch” happens. We should know rather quickly before WoW is released when a certain actor(s) returns to work….or not

My wish for the final scene is Stoneheart but I fear it’ll be another Dani moment. I hope it’s not she’s kinda bored me the past 2 seasons and ending with her would just feel blah!

Can’t kill Jon Snow…. Yet. Because whether or not they start filming with him for the next season would be too big a spoiler, even for book readers…

That’s the best point I’ve seen. That cliffhanger won’t mean much unless they can hide Kit during all of filming. It would be more efficient to tease it and do something else, especially if Jon’s not a warg in the show.

It must be LSH, since there aren’t any other book scenes that can “break the internet.” Unless they’re talking about future book scenes, not much to choose from. Still, Jaime being literally across the continent complicates the specifics of what LSH is doing.

If it weren’t a book scene, I would think it could be Tyrion dying.

Probably not Lady Stoneheart, but here’s hoping the other three scenes do close out the season — in that order!

Has anyone considered that Aegon and Connington would be brought in for the last two episodes because remember the gag that Nikolaj-Coster Waldau (Jaime) did with the duck before the season began about the DUCK?

My money is For the Watch and a blackout. The only persuasive clue that it might be something else is the Daniel Portman quote. But his last scene might not be the episode’s last scene. The actors wouldn’t know much in advance of the rest of us what the directors and editors are up to.

If I may, I think your interpretation of the book’s last Dany scene is just a pinch off. Although I could be wrong as well. My take on it, and how it could impact the show: So in the last pages of her last chapter she is wandering, sick, and hallucinating. Two things are really important in a literal sense- she laments that she was “trying” and wanting to live like a young girl. She wanted to plant trees, she sadly says. Her Jorah hallucination reminds her dragons don’t plant trees. And they don’t. They burn and stomp on trees. Ok, next war have her waking up (ahem, hint, hint!) and hiding from the Dothraki scout. Suddenly, she is able to not only call, but command Drogon on his back….a skill she didn’t do so…naturally….Anyway, next she and Drogon kill and feast on a horse. And she calmly meets the gathering khalasar. Now, that horse feast seems to be symbolism, and she has promised since book 1 that certain Dothraki lords are going to die (probably painfully). I think rather than Dany “starting over” she is shaking off her “I’m a good ruler, strong but gentle” mask, and revealing her true face….the one covered in fire and blood. She gonna open up a can of wup ass next book. They done woke the dragon.

As it relates to the show, I could see her facing some Dothraki, and maybe there’s a moment of hard looks between them, but as the Dothraki move to claim a defenseless woman, she fire blasts them with Drogon. Whether it ends abruptly, or with her standing over a dead horde, we will see… Awoken dragon hype.

If it’s a book scene it’s either Dany and the khalasar or its Varys. If I were adapting I think I would go that way: penultimate scene Dany, last scene Varys. I guess that’s not super exciting for some (it is for me I practically pissed my pants with glee when I read Danys last chapter) but the last episode can still break the Internet even if FTW (the most break the Internet worthy book scene) is in the episode at any point. Obviously it will be near the end, right?

To my mind, the only way they can end with FTW and still legitimately call it “a book scene” is if it is a cliffhanger. So it kind of depends on whether or not they will spoil it for us. Again, if it is a book scene with no additions or adaptations.

I would seriously like to see Lady Stoneheart! Tired of watching the Starks get slaughtered season after season! Long live the Lord Commander!

Danny that is my main argument why it has to happen…they need to return some hope for the Starks…if they end on Jon’s death people will just start to think “ok we get it enough already”

there is no chance…I repeat NO CHANCE…they end the season leaving people thinking they’ve killed off another Stark/Snow…they have to give something back…I can absolutely see FTW happening in episode 10…but it won’t be the final scene…it’s also not a break the internet type scene…it’s a “oh for god’s sake now they killed Jon too?” scene…you cannot end the season on such a downer…no other season has ended on a downer like that…plus they aren’t going to resurrect him in episode 10 (which would not be a book scene as of yet) which would give you the supernatural cool factor that seasons 1 and 2 ended on…

I think it HAS to be something magic related…they haven’t had a magical final scene since the White Walkers approaching the Fist in season 2…since then we’ve had crowd surfing Dany and Arya on the boat…I know the showrunners have SORT OF said LS is not in the show…but what do you expect them to say? “I dunno stay tuned and find out! *Wink Wink*” They have to deny it because that’s the only way to make it work…plus they have waited long enough since the RW that even many book readers have completely given up hope and will be almost as shocked as the Unsullied if it happens now…

Also, with George saying he wants TWOW to be out before season 6 this is the perfect time to introduce her since if all goes according to plan she’ll have a bunch of TWOW scenes to actually give the character something to do (“she hasn’t done anything in the books” being another argument for leaving her out of the show)

If Jon Snow becomes a White Walker that would definitely break the Internet. I would like to see Podrick become the hero again and save Brianne by killing Ramsey. If the wall falls there would be a lot of shocked faces in front of their screens. If Jon becomes an ice wolf or ice dragon it would signal the end of the Northlands or Westeros.

i had wondered if “Mercy” referred to the character named Mercy in one of GRRM sample chapters.

I think mercy refers to the mother mercy (walk of shame) hopefully stoneheart and ftw(mother mercy-i believe it defines as a justified death (for the wall is justified by certain crows)). It will end with stone heart if it’s truly internet breaking episode

There was that leaked footage of 6 or so extras being “burned alive” in the Osuna bullring. Pre-CGI obviously, but it had to be Drogon @ Deznak’s.

Probably not “break the internet” material, but it would make a powerful final seen for an episode – cutting to black screen with her going blind, followed by credits. Maybe we’ll get this on Sunday.

No book scene, not Varys, not FTW, not some new Dothraki, would “break the internet” except LS. If you look at the casting notice for Season 6, they want a “great warrior-type, of mixed race”. That sounds like the new Khal to me, which leads me to believe they won’t even be a factor until next year. That’s all assuming we can take D&D at their word and the last scene will be literally from the book. My gut tells me it will be FTW, but at the end Jon Snow will open his eyes and they will be BLUE. But with Pod being the source of the quote, I’m going to hold just a smidgeon of hope for LS in the back of my mind.

What if this is all the fout last scenes? That would be epic. First Varys assassinations, then dany meeting the Khalessar, then the introducuing of Lady Stoneheart and then “For The Watch”. All these 4 scenes happening during the last 15-20 minutes and resulting in large cliffhangers for all storylines

I think the LSH commenters here are being incredibly short sighted and have been struck by a major case of wishful thinking. Would she break the internet? Sure. But how can you seriously even consider that? Unlike FTW, which has been set up for god knows how many episodes, with Thorne and Olly glowering at Jon all about the wall every two seconds, there has been no such segue way that could plausibly be used to reintroduce Un-Cat. Would the actor who plays a third tier cast member really be the most reliable source for that info? Save yourself the (stone) heartbreak, it is FTW for sure.

I agree, but cant really argue the fact that its very odd that the podrick actor knows the ending. I dont think they would share storylines with characters not involved in them, but who knows. Maybe they were shooting two arcs in the same place

A couple of episodes ago, Melisandre tells Stannis that she foresaw herself walking the battlements of Winterfell and saw the flayed banner come down. She didn’t say Stannis is alive to see it, but if her visions are true (from her perspective), the Boltons also have to lose.

Episode 9. Dance with Dragons. First Ranger Thorne is an ass, but he will let every survivor pass the Wall. Hardhome is lost; the Walking Dead is coming. Angry Olly no like.

Jon learns of Aemon’s death; sends Sam, li’l Sam and Gilly south to the Citadel in Oldtown (Season 6!). Arya’s mission with the Thin Man is successful; she saves Mace Tyrell from Meryn Trant by killing him; as reward she gets sent back to Westeros, to the Citadel in Oldtown. A girl/boy is ready. Sansa and the candle (Ramsay: “keep your candle”; winter is cold) in the broken tower- Brienne and Pod sets out on their way to WF (if you’re going to mention a candle in the broken tower, you should be prepared to use it). Episode 10 summary says that “Stannis marches” towards WF. This probably means that Ramsay’s excursion to take the fight to Stannis fails. The Bastard dies (I hope not; I want to see him skewered by Sansa with that bung reamer) or he retreats back to WF. Dorne, but who cares. Daznak Pit, Dany and the khalasar (finds herself with “strangers”). Jorah and his greyscale.

Episode 10: Mother’s Mercy. The High Sparrow/Septon gives Cersei mercy with Kevan and the freed Tyrell’s watching. Varys gives Pycelle and Kevan mercy. Dany giver her dragons/Jorah mercy. Sansa really forgives Theon (mercy) who saves her from Miranda/Ramsay. Stannis marches. Will try to sacrifice Shireen. But in the end Selyse loves her daughter, too (mercy). The fight would bring chaos. Pod gets killed. Shireen gets killed, maybe fighting? (Davos asked her to watch over him); Brienne kills Stannis (if you’re going to say “Stannis is a man; a man can be killed”; it probably goes without saying that you’re going to try). Miranda and Ramsay will die – by Sansa or Theon’s hands. Roose will die, by Littlefinger’s hand, because you know, he will swoop in with the Knight’s of the Vale when Roose is licking his wounds. In the end, the flayed banner will come down; Stannis is dead; and Melisandre walks the battlements of Winterfell by herself. If Stannis survives (maybe he does sacrifice his daughter; it is his destiny to lead and who’s to argue with that), Stannis names Sansa wardeness of the North, and she reunites with Rickon from Last Hearth. Walda Frey will die. Sansa tasks Brienne to go looking for Bran/Jon. Or Sansa dies, and she is brought back to life by Melisandre (mercy). Sansa Stoneheart.

I would say that most likely Arya has to choose ether she kills thin man or Meryn Trant nand she chooses last one.. Sadly Kindly man isn’t very happy and because of that she make Arya blind (most will think that this is meant as a punishment)

Dany flying off on Drogon will be the end of Episode 9. I’m assuming the Khalasar will be back with the “strangers” line in 10, but I don’t think that would be a good ending scene considering Episode 9 is likely to end on Dany to begin with.

Stoneheart is a good guess, but I’m not buying into it with fervent hope after last season.

I think it will be a combination of all of these. Not sure which will be the final season. Whilst I’ve said all along that LSH won’t/shouldn’t appear I really think this is what Daniel is referring to as regards to breaking the Internet. Everything else is expected by the book readers. The title says it all.

Also, it’s naive to believe that they won’t kill Jon off as we will soon realise he’s shooting season 6 (and therefore become spoiled)…the show runners have no obligation to the book readers being spoiled whatsoever. It’s their show, they bought the rights to it.

The point about repeat endings w Dany (9&10) is a good one. Which is why I still think it’s the next to the last scene. But who knows? They tend to find ways to surprise us.

LS should come back and kill Walda Frey/Bolton. Walda is a Frey and pregnant like Talisa was. Shocking revenge and showing that LS is not like Cat was. Torturing Roose and Ramsay would be great for S6.

Not sure how Sansa would fit in. LS could save Sansa since Sansa’s story is so far off book. They could incorporate Brienne and her inability to save Sansa.

Take it a step further, Ramsay leads LSH to Walda.

Think we need to see more of Jon before his “for the watch” moment, Sam needs to be sent away he needs to be influenced by Mel more and he needs to get the letter from Ramsey about Stannis, yes it’s set up for with that little scowling shit but could be stretched out a bit more.

We know Danzaks pit is next week so Dany’s ending most likely but we’ve heard nowt about the Dothraki for 3 seasons so who would care?

Stoneheart, this would complete me but no mention of BwB, no Freys, and Brienne no where near the Riverlands and Jamie a thousand mile away I just can’t see it, if she turns up at all, how about see turns up as a Wight killing Walder Freys entire family before killing him, don’t think Blackfish can be ignored though, why survive the red wedding?

I miss blackfish. I hope to see the rremaining Tullys again, but unless they r surprise attacking the Boltons (how sweet would that be??), not until next season.

Has anyone else wondered where Tyrion will end up after Dany flies off on Drogon? He is in photos at the fighting pits when everything goes down. Another road trip with Jorah?

I think he and Jorah live and hold the city for her. He’s prob not going anywhere. (Fingers crossed). It would be disappointing if he leaves Danys camp

Tyrion is taking over Ser Barristan’s scenes, defending Mereen and keeping things together while Dany is “lost”. That is why they killed Barristan in the show.

When she wakes up, she discovers a clan of Dothraki nearby, she rides Drogon over and lands in front of them, with the idea to return to the last place things made sense and start over

That clan of Dothraki is Khal Jhaqo, former ko of Khal Drogo accompanied by 50 of his warriors. In the show he was the guy who got his tongue ripped out through his throat and gave Khal Drogo his fatal cut.

Daenerys swore the following (Eroeh being the girl Khal Jhaqo and Mago raped)…..

“I promise you that, by the old gods and the new, by the lamb god and the horse god and every god that lives. I swear by the Mother of Mountains and the Womb of the World. Before I am done with them, Mago and Ko Jhaqo will plead for the mercy they showed Eroeh”

So I don’t think it’s going to be a happy reunion and a way to start over.

But I don’t see how that will break the Internet as a large proportion of viewers know this is coming (and this can’t be more shocking than the RW with two major characters being brutally killed). Besides, the whole Jon warging into Ghost theory bums me out… How would that translate onto the screen (or the books for that matter). It just wouldn’t work.

Apparently you didnt see the internet reaction to the red wedding or the mountain and the viper. “Most” viewers have NOT read the books.

The trouble with FTW is no-one who has read the books and followed GRRM’s comments thinks there’s any chance Jon won’t be back. The debate has been how seriously he is hurt. Is he badly wounded like Grey Worm was and blanked out for a while or warging in Ghost? Or is he effectively dead and needs to be raised by Mel. Personally I hate the idea of Jon being ressurrected – and by doing so becoming AA – especially after this season where he has really come into his own as a leader without any magic. He’s made great strides but being brought back would diminish him.

I think it will end like last season on a relatively hopeful note – Dany flying on Drogon and meeting the Dothraki.

Consider this, Brienne has such a powerful loathing of Stannis and is poised to be involved in Sansa’s rescue. Sansa is also speculated to be filling in for Lady Stoneheart to some degree and has recently been given a few key pieces of information: Her brothers are alive and worth searching for, Jon Snow has been elected Lord Commander. Brienne has been saying “don’t hold me back from Stannis” for a long time now, perhaps Sansa will demand to be brought to Jon Snow or Brienne will want to use the nights watch as a safe house from which to find her brothers. Neither of them will want to go to Stannis if they have another option.

Sansa could even be present to witness the FTW moment and be the actual motivation for the Bastard Letter if it’s in the show. The whole purpose of the Bastard Letter is Ramsay demanding for Jon to give him back his Reek, fArya, the Red witch, Shireen and Seylse, none of which he has at the moment. It’s also Jon’s decision to turn South that’s the final straw, as it were, in the Watch’s betrayed of him. Right now Jon has no logical reason to look South if the producers are even choosing to incorporate that angle.

If Shireen is not sacrificed, Seylse, Mel and Shireen could all end up sent back to the wall. I could make up reasons but I’m getting close to fan fiction as it is just like Dan and Dave will have to.

If there’s any mention of a Frey in the “Previously on” recap then Lady Stoneheart will be back.

It would be quite likely that a group of Brienne, Sansa, Pod, Davos, Shireen even Theon make it to the Wall and that works in the same way as the pink letter of making Jon snap. Davos could then be sent to look for Rickon and Sansa could look after Jon while he recovers after FTW. Shireen could go off with Sam and Gilly.

Another outcome that would certainly ‘break the Internet’ would be Brienne killing Stannis. We were warned before the start of the season that a MAJOR character would die this season who is still alive in the books. I don’t think that Ser Barristan qualifies as major enough.

I think it was pretty clearly barristan. Keep in mind that “major” was the description in the media, ie clickbait. Theres nothing exciting about a headline that says “a relatively minor character dies earlier in the show”

I think a number of those things mentioned above will happen but the final scene will be Jon being stabbed.

Episode 9 – Ramsay leaving with his 20 men. Sansa escaping with Theon killing Myranda in the process with the implement she took. She’ll head to the wall. Brienne will be involved in this somehow. I’m not quite sure how it’ll pan out but I think Stannis will refuse to burn Shireen but Mel will try and do it anyway. Stannis will banish her back to the Wall. Somehow Ramsay and Stannis will pit off with Stannis getting the upper hand and either killing Ramsay or capturing him. Jon will arrive back at Castle Black with the wildlings and after a standoff get back in. He will send Sam and Gilly south to collect the great houses Valryian Steel swords and Dragonglass (hence his rumoured visit to his father next season). Danzak pit will take up the second half of the episode like Hardhome did this week. The Harpy will rush Dany, Hizdar will reveal himself as their leader just as it looks like she will be killed. At that point drawn by the blood and love for his mother, Drogon will arrive. The Harpy will be defeated in dragon fire, Dany will mount him and ride off leaving Jorah, Tyrion, Greyworm and Daario stunned. I think the Kalasar scene will be the first scene of season 6.

Episode 10 – will be about Cersei and the walk of atonement. There will be some stuff showing Kevan basically getting shit sorted in Kings Landing bringing the faith into line. Varys will reappear killing Pycelle and Kevan. Brienne and Stannis will have a showdown as her, Sansa and Theon head north but I can’t see what would logically happen here bar neither dying. Sansa will arrive at the Wall. On hearing what Roose and Ramsay Bolton are doing at Winterfell that’ll be the final straw and he will proclaim that he is going to liberate Winterfell. In the resultant chaos, somehow involving Wun Wun, he will be stabbed by Olly +/- others like Bowen Marsh and Alliser Thorne as Melisandre arrives back at Castle Black. As he lies on the ground bleeding he’ll say Ghost and Ghost’s eyes will open. Season fin.

Probably have some bits right, probably some bits totally off but that’s the elements I would want in there.

I like it, but Dany is confirmed for the finale. I’m assuming the khalasar will show up in the finale.

The logline says “Dany finds herself among strangers” for the finale

Please Lord Of Light no Lady Stoneheart, too many other characters are way more interesting, and her character is supremely one dimensional and limited. D & D need to bolster the real story-lines with only two seasons left, not take away from them to wedge in Stoneheart.

I expect Varys to kill Pycelle and uncle Kevan, but that chapter is also important because of his speech of Aegon, so it would not be exactly as the book.

Drogon will appear in the pit but I am not sure if Danny is going to fly with him, maybe they will cut the part she gets lost with the dragon and finds the Khalasar. And this should happen in the Dance of Dragons episode. Aegon could appear in Dorne.

I wish “For the watch” doesn’t end like in the book. I believe there will be an attempt to kill Jon, but he will warg into Ghost and save himself. Wildlings and Edd should help him after Hardhome.

So, IMO, the last scene will be the Walk of Shame of Cersei and that is related to the title of the episode Mother’s mercy somehow. Maybe they will decide to kill Kevan first so she will accept the punishment to protect her son. Perhaps Robert Strong will be there too.

I expect that it will end with Jon’s storyline. I noticed that when Sam was speaking with Olly, he tells him, “Jon will come back. He always comes back.” (Or something like that.) I figured this was foreshadowing for the final event.

I thought that the actor who plays Uncle Benjen was scheduled to be in this season. It was in the second episode that he went on a scouting run, so whatever he brings back with him (possibly a queen hostage) could possibly make an impactful ending.

But they said the last scene is based on the books.

I highly doubt its going to end with jon being stabbed and fading out. To my memory every season had ended on a cliffhanger but with some hope for the following season. Leaving us something to desire for the next season. If we all just see jon fade to black theres going to be more anger than anticipation for season 6. So if it does end with for the watch it wont be with Jon’s death. It has to be him living, warging into ghost (unlikely in my opinion),or being reborn as azor ahai (most likely and most hoped for).

what everyone needs to remember is a lot of people making these ‘break the internet’ statements haven’t read the books..what is a shock to them may not be to the sullied

Jon snow is the main character to show watchers, if he died it would be s big surprise. It is 100% FTW, no question.

The Jon with blue eyes and then transitioning to ghosts eyes (somehow) is an awesome idea to those who proposed it. It would spark endless debate among show fans and book readers alike without answering to many questions so from Winds of Winter in case George does get it out before season 6.

Haha there are some wild comments here… D&D have to tread carefully on how they pull off this ending. They should be more concerned with the crazies who are thinking of ditching the show once something happens that they don’t like. Which seems to be every damn week this season, save for Hardhome.

All I know is– if Stannis goes through with sacrificing Shireen, there better be just as much if not more outrage about that than Ramsay’s atrocities against Sansa. I’m saying this because I’m dubious of the potential reaction– people are constantly murdered by the score on Game of Thrones (as well as in real life) and that’s just alright, whereas what happened in Ramsay’s room (also happens too often in real life) has people up in arms. Let’s start getting the priorities straight because both murder and rape are absolutely despicable. Agreed? Cool.

I hope that five seasons in, we get a bit of redemption/ vindication– to me the only suggestions above that evoked any emotion were Lady Stone, and to a lesser degree FTW. FTW would be a bad way to end the season; another Stark/ honourable character allegedly gone and all the Kit Harrington groupies/ moopies would go begging if Jon was killed off. It would be enough reason for people to lose interest in droves as Jon is one of the last few characters worth giving a toss about. I hear some saying his eyes will be blue as he’ll be turned into a Walker… Ummm… No. You see the way he stared down the Night’s King last week? Shit is going down at the wall, and what purpose would turning Jon into a White Walker serve? No offense, but for a TV show that’s a terrible idea. Save the book-type plots for GRRM who seems to be writing himself more and more into a corner since Tywin died.

The other two speculations with Varys and Dany sound like they need to happen before the last scene of the season. Kevan Lannister hasn’t done enough or developed enough as a character to deserve the final scene, and Dany flying away on Drogon is really just a dry, dry plot twist if you think about it hard. Who really cares if she flies away on Drogon– so what? So we can get more episodes of her starting over again in the Dothraki Sea like the Red Waste? Nah, I’m good on that– I hope D&D change her story too. There has been too much story building in Slaver’s Bay to waste it on her flying away. Tyrion or Jorah flying away on a dragon would be more interesting to me. Better yet, Dany Tyrion, Jorah, and everyone else need to stay right where they are. Another Martin corner is what flying away sounds like to me.

I’m willing to accept that after Hardhome, D&D potentially have something up their sleeves. Perhaps we should think outside of the box a bit– even if they say the last scene happens in the books. They could still do something a bit different, and I like being kept on my toes. Just please, for all our sakes give us something to make us speculate and stay involved in places like WiC for another year before our favourite show comes back.

But I wish Melisandre would burn Ramsay alive to end the season.

Why not everything? Dany gets to fly off on Drogon, Shireen gets burned, Jon gets stabbed, Stoneheart hangs Bolton, Sansa and Theon flee, Cersie goes for a walk, Kevan and Pycelle get pincushioned.

Jon brought back and with blue eyes although it seems his wolf has been featured and with a name like Ghost it must mean something. Martin has made the comment that those brought back are different than when they were alive so believe the undead Jon is not the Jon we know and love.

Based on everything I have read and a few theories I’ve put together talking with a friend of mine during his reading of the books, I believe the final scene could be very similar to the epilogue in Dance. We would have Varys do his scene, but also put a flashback scene in to show back to when Kings Landing was being attacked during the rebellion. It could then show a scene of how one of the two babies actually got switched out with another or at least hinted at. This would play into the beginning and ending scenes being bookended. Two flashbacks. Both involving deaths of children. Varys would then pull the famous quote from Star Wars and say “No. There is another” with the final shot hinting at Trystane being Aegon, hidden in secret by Doran. A trump card and backup plan after Dany flies off and disappears. I can’t be the only one who got a Viserys vibe off his one scene. He has been my prediction from the start.

This leads into season 6 with the general Aegon subplots (real or not it still creates tension with the rest of Westeros) as well as Mereen being leaderless and two dragons up for grabs. This could then introduce Euron Greyjoy filling in for Victorian and give a reason for everyone flocking to Mereen.

No way would that be adding yet another character plot. Remember they almost cut Dorne THIS season, and we have casting calls which confirm the Greyjoy and Randall Tarly storylines NEXT season.

Season 6 is the penultimate season. Things need to start wrapping up. Characters need to start converging on locations.

How about this; Ramsay takes 20 men to Stannis’ camp and is followed by Brienne and Pod. On the way, they encounter the Brotherhood without Banners, and LS kills Ramsay while Brienne witnesses it. Then next season we get to see Brienne’s arc with BwB.

Another wild speculation, I know. But my wishful heart cant stop hoping to see Lady Stoneheart on screen..

I thought it was supposed to happen next season but I think it will be Jon getting a ‘caesar’. Preceded by Dany jumping on Drogon.

i dont think this season is gonna end with varys killing kevan and pycelle because the show is not going to introduce randyll tarly until next season. Brienne attacking stannis does not really fit into the shows style so i would eliminate that possibility as well. I really think it will end with olie stabbing john probably along with aliser thorne. The only thing that makes me doubt it is the name “mothers mercy” which could mean that finally we will get to see lady stoneheart!

Why you didn’t mentioned possibility that they could use the scene, where Arya gets to drink the “milk” first time and because of that looses her sight..

I would hope for the Varys ending with the penultimate scene being “For the Watch.”, however I imagine it will be the other way round on the grounds of who is seen as the more important character in the fans eyes.

Although on that basis, you could argue Dany’s final scene – even though it lacks the impact of the other two – will be the last.

LS would certainly break the internet, but so would a naked Cersei in some circles…!

If the Varys scene is the final scene, it will be a letdown. It certainly isn’t a “break the internet” scene. No one is invested in Kevan Lannister (unsullied probably don’t remember who he is) and Maester Pycelle dying is no big deal. Dany could be it but that scene also is not such a big deal. So she escapes Mereen on the back of Drogon, has hallucinations and is captured by the Khalassar… not internet breaking material. Cersei’s ‘Walk of shame’? It will certainly happen but that is not going to leave anyone gasping so hard, just chuckling evil chuckles. That leaves LS and Jon (two options). LS I still hope for but I will believe it when (and especially if) I see it. I have serious doubts though. Jon ‘wtf’ makes the most sense. He will get stabbed by Olly and co. that we can pretty much be certain of. So the question remains: Do we become full unsullied and wait a year to find out what happens next? Or do we get the “big reveal” and THEN become unsullied. Damn it! Waiting is torture.

If Stannis kills Ramsay, I will literally cream me jeans! It wouldn’t matter what happens after that. That is literally the best thing that could ever happen…which is why it won’t.
