Eddard Stark was one of the most interesting and complex characters in the show. Why did they get rid of him?

No! Because his death is basically what made the show/book interesting! The events and consequences of his death made everything more intense!

And to be honest I didn't care that much about him. Doesn't mean I don't like him though

And also: "Why they killed him" He was the first main character who died... So he is the source of what this show is: Which is "No characters are safe"

Even though I realize that his death was an important plotline to the story. He's my #2 favorite so I am being a bit biased :)
