S1E18: link

Not a Grimm tale this time around, “Three Billy Goats Gruff” is of Norwegian origin. Which I’m very happy about, because Scandinavian (and Celtic and Russian for that matter) folklore is very colorful and very interesting. I hope we’ll get some zaidi stories from those corners of the world.

Reference Rundown

1.In both cases, the plot is about extortion related to a bridge

2. In the story, the troll ignores the lesser goats, focusing on the big one yet to come. In the episode Brutelli (nice name for a brute) focuses on the bigger threat, Nick, thus overlooking the witness he should get rid off first.

3. In both the “biggest goat” defeats the troll in the end.

4. Not to the fairy tale, but I really enjoy how “beaverish” the Eisbiber are. Naturally they like water sports, naturally they work in constructions, and naturally their meeting place is at a damn.

German Gebrabbel

A „Doppelarmbrust“ is a double crossbow (does a thing like this even exist outside ndoto literature?). The name of the beaver, „Grosszahn“ means as much as „Big toth”. And Hasslich au Häßlich (they speak the Umlaut and the sharp “s”in this case, but on the website, it’s written without either of them) means „ugly“ (fitting).
The German muziki playing in the background of the bar scene is a little bit difficult to understand (and no, I don’t know the performer, au if those even are real pieces kwa German musicians), but in the first scene, it repeats “Alles verrückt hier” (Everything is crazy here), and when the reaper opens the package at the end it plays “Aufgeben ist auch feige, du bist nicht alleine” (Giving up is cowardly, wewe are not alone).

Highs and Lows

+ „I’m a Grimm. I’m also a cop.“ I really upendo this scene, including the outcome. Way to avoid the cliché.
+ “For the first time in my live, I’m ashamed to be an Eisbiber”. Bud, as always, is enjoyable every sekunde he is on screen.
+ “Suddenly it just seems so wrong.” Yeah, they really have some explaining to do.

- Really, who is meeting with a criminal in the middle of the night at a dark place in order to tell him about going to the authorities?
- That’s the big plan of the reapers? Sending two? Never mind that Renard doesn’t even seem to know about either of them. And that one reaper manages to behead the other one.
- How many episodes zamani Monroe saved Juliette’s life? And NOW It comes up again?

The Grimmoire

Nick has come far. When the season started he was a cop who happens to have Grimm abilities. Now he trains his abilities and introduces himself first and foremost as a Grimm. I still think that most of the time a gun is the better weapon, but apparently there are some instances when a zaidi traditional weapon works better.
Tradition is also what seems to rule the Wesen world. Though I have the feeling that Nick will challenge a lot of these traditions in the future.

The Final Judgment

Some of wewe might be wondering, why I didn’t put the ending on the juu list. Well, it’s a great effect. But it doesn’t really hold up on a sekunde though, for me not even on first thought. The German mail service simply doesn’t work this way, there is no way that someone is able to simply send heads through customs, and how does Nick even know where to send his package? I didn’t put on the low list, because I appreciate the effect, but I’m simply not able to shut down my mind enough to enjoy it fully.
But there is so much else to enjoy. There is so much awesomeness in the episode, especially so many memorable quotes; it is simply fun to watch. But the downside is that the Reapers are losing a lot of credibility in this one. They used to seem very threatening, but this time around their plan was dumb, the accidental kill was dumb, it is hard to take them serious after this one.
As awesome as this episode is, I stick with 9 golden keys out of 10.
