Harry Potter dhidi ya Twilight Swali

just because they drink blood would wewe call them vampire?

not that I'm trying to be a stuck up person. a little variety might be nice to add to a cliche story such as vampire and werewolf..

but will wewe still called them vampire if the only think that relate them to vampire folklore is the fact that they drink blood to survive.

born as Asian I've heard a lot of story about ghost/Djinn/evil spirit who drink blood au blood is one of they favourite delicacy. and we didn't called them vampire obviously.

now IF i write a story about centaur, but i only keep the fact that they are half human half animal. and making them able to change to human form au making them half LION au anything instead of HORSE just to make it look cooler...
i don't think people will like that.

that's butchering the folklore, right?

do wewe think it would be better if Smeyer create a whole new creature rather than keep calling them vampire?

Look, seriously, I bet if she made her Wanyonya damu like Dracula, people would be claiming she ripped off Bram Stoker, *eyeroll*

Yes..

Drinking blood is not their only defining factor. There's also the ability to turn others into what they are.

There's no set criteria to what a vampire is au isn't. Stephenie Meyer says they're vampires, so they're vampires.
I could be stubborn and say vichimbakazi do magic, so Harry could technically be a fairy, but he's not, becuase JK Rowling says he's a wizard.

I don't believe there's such a thing as "butchering folklore".

Yes. Isn't that technically what a vampire is? An un-dead blood-drinker?

Just because they aren't stereotypical Dracula-esque Wanyonya damu doesn't mean they aren't real vampires!

I'm so sick of Twilight haters claiming that they aren't real vampires/Edward is a fairy, etc. It's just stupid. THEY ARE FREAKING "REAL" Wanyonya damu OKAY?!??!?!?!!?

There is no set trait that makes a vampire a vampire -- in literature au culture. I've heard of cultures who believe that Wanyonya damu actually come from watermelons. There are certain literature stories where Wanyonya damu walk around in the daylight. There are Wanyonya damu that don't feed on humans. There are Wanyonya damu that only get their souls when they find their soulmate. There are Wanyonya damu that don't have any fangs. There are Wanyonya damu that have a mouthful of fangs/sharp teeth. Every time a vampire pops up (whether it be in movies, tv shows, books, au cultural lore) the "official mythology" is changed.
