CHAPTER 1
I grew up in Therinsford, which was the only other village in Palancar Valley, aside from the famed Carvahall of legend. I'd heard about the incredible things that had happened there. I grew up hearing the names of battles and the heros of such. At the forefront of all the stories was Eragon Shadeslayer. Since we both were of the valley, I decided to try my luck at an egg.
The egg was brought kwa a surly dwarf Rider astride a silver dragon. It was red and nearly the same height as me. There weren't many others in line, but I worried that the egg would choose one of them.
All the while, the dwarf kept one hand on his ax, watching the egg. Each time someone touched it, the egg rocked, but did not hatch.
Finally, it was my turn. I laid my hand flat against the red shell. The silver dragon crouched. Startled, the dwarf turned to his dragon for a moment.
"The dragon inside is female," he said, with the faintest trace of an accent.
The dragon squeaked and began tapping the shell under my hand. Nervous, I removed my hand and watched.
Cracks traced across the egg. Where the thin lines met,, bits of eggshell fell off.
The hatchling was about the size of a new-born colt. There were bits of membrane stuck to her back. Gently, I reached down to pick them off. Suddenly, I felt as if water from the nearby Anora River had been poured into my mind. Terrified, I retreated deep inside myself and blacked out.
CHAPTER 2
The first sound I heard when I came to was the worried squeaking of my dragon. She was looking down at me with her huge red eyes. While I was out, the dwarf had picked up the remains of the egg.
He congratulated me as he mounted his silver. inayofuata thing I knew, he was throwing a rolled packet of papers at me and speaking.
"This contains a map of Alagaesia and a message from Eragon Shadeslayer for whomever the red egg hatches for. wewe should start out very soon. Though the accursed Galbatorix is dead, there are still evils loose in the land that would be too much for a young pair. wewe should try to avoid the Hadarac Desert, as your dragon is still to young to fly wewe across. Se onr sverdar sitja hvass!"
With those strange words, the Rider and dragon left. I turned to my dragon.
CHAPTER 3
"You need a name before we set out to meet Eragon Shadeslayer and Saphira Brightscales. Do wewe have any ideas?" I asked.
Delva is my name. The thought came from the red dragon.
"Delva. I think it fits. It means 'dear one' to the dwarves. wewe are very dear to me," I replied. Delva hummed.
CHAPTER 4
Delva grew swiftly in the first few weeks it took for me to prepare for our trip. She was very willing to carry our supplies, so that there was zaidi room on the horse for me.
We alisema farewell to my Marafiki and family in the village before setting out. I knew the road would be difficult, but we would find Eragon and Saphira in time.
As we traveled past Utgard Mountain, I reread Eragon's letter while Delva kept the horse on track with her mind.

To the new Dragon Rider for whom this egg hatches:
Greetings! As wewe may know, my name is Eragon Shadeslayer. My dragon is Saphira Bjartskular. She and I can hardly wait for wewe two to arrive. There are many things your training must address. The sooner wewe arrive, the better.
I advise wewe to travel to Aberon, capital of Surda. From there, wewe can arrange passage through the Beor Mountains. Rest in Tronjheim. When wewe are ready, the dwarves will escort wewe to Hedarth. From there, wewe need only to follow the Az Ragni east until wewe find us. Saphira should not be hard to spot.
Be wary, young Rider. Though I slew Galbatorix and his foul servants, there are still some vestiges of his evil left in the Empire.
Should wewe meet a green dragon ridden kwa a fair elf maid, do not engage them in battle, but allow them to travel with you. They are close Marafiki of ours. The dragon is Firnen, Saphira's mate. Firnen's Rider is the elf Arya, who is now Queen of the elves.
If wewe happen to meet other new Riders along your path, travel together. Inn my adventures, I have found that your enemies will hesitate to attack a large group unless they are also in a large group.
May the wind be at your backs!
Eragon Shadeslayer
Saphira Bjartskular

We stopped to rest in Daret. Though the village was situated alongside the Ninor River, it didn't feel like nyumbani to me.
Why should this town not feel like our nyumbani in Therinsford, Delva asked in her roundabout dragon way.
"Look around. Daret is on a vast plain. Therinsford was salama in a valley," I told her. She only snorted. "Besides, wewe spent most of your time in Therinsford either in your egg au hunting in the Spine!"
This is true, she agreed. I do not like the feel of this place. It is making my scales itch.
"We only just got here! I'm tired and my horse is tired. We need to rest. It's not that big of a deal whether we get there a siku early au not. I'm the Rider, I decide what to do."
Yes, but who chose wewe to be a Rider? We have an equal say in our affairs, Delva pointed out. Let us end this argument and rest. I am sure we will all need our stength for what is to come.
"And what do wewe mean kwa that, O most noble dragon?" I asked, a bit sarcastically. Apparently dragoni understood sarcasm, for Delva answered with the same amount of sarcasm.
Exactly what I said, O most stupid Rider.
