This is a sneak peek chapter to a book I'm uandishi xD Enjoy :P
I. Brighton
You are safe, I assure the frightened seal, sitting inayofuata to him on the sand and waving away the strange, smooth object in the shape of six rings. It is gone. wewe are salama and your flipper will heal.
The muhuri barks once and flips into the water, spraying a million sparkling drops.
The muhuri is gone, and I have already collected the samaki I need for today. I decide to waste no zaidi time in going back nyumbani as I hear my stomach rumble.
I pick up my leaf-basket and walk toward the entrance to my home, the tall white structure with a windowed room nestled at the top. I climb the spiral steps barefooted, basket swaying gently. Quietly, I light a moto with the moto rocks and throw driftwood on the flames, causing them to flare and flicker, throwing up sparks. Throwing the samaki on the fire, I sigh at the blacked-out windows. If a human (shudder) were ever to see me…
I didn't want to think of the possibilities.
I quickly scarf down the fish, spitting out the bones, tail and head.
Then I lay back, closing my eyes as the dying embers bathe me in glowing warmth and I ease into sleep.
"Do they really take out your hair, Mama?" I ask in our underwater language. I giggle as she tickles my stomach and clutch my own, long blonde hair.
"Yes, Bri." She taps my nose. "And pop out your eyes. They save those for dessert. Well, only for the rich ones." Her long hair, the same color as mine, waves like seaweed in the current that floats through our house.
I gasp. "You're making it up!"
She laughs. "We're just samaki to them." Then her laughing face grows serious. "Don't ever go near them, Brighton. They are dangerous. If wewe ever used your gift… they would know wewe were different…"
"My gift?" I query. So close to her telling.
Her beautiful dark eyes, edged with smile lines, widen, knowing she's alisema too much. Then she smiles. "You are special, nordai." Song, in our language. "So special."
"But—"
"No more." She lays a finger on my lips and looks at the coral clock on the mantle. "Time for bed, is it not? The sea monsters get the little merchildren not in kitanda when they are supposed to be."
"But I'm not a merchild like the others."
"Hush, nordai. wewe are a merchild." She waves her green-and-silver tail. "You may not have a tail, but wewe are my daughter. How could wewe not be a merchild?"
"Mom!"
The cry, loud and shrill, pierces the water like a fishhook as I am yanked from my seasilk-soft bed. All I can feel are strong, rough hands and burning red eyes on my skin. They pull me, so hard, out of my room.
"Brighton!"
In the watery moonlight, the shape of my mother—and the four soldiers guiding me, one of them clenching my arms—are visible. She is reaching out for me, face full of panic. They are pulling me, swimming toward the door with eyes red and faces black behind their helmets.
"You can't do this! She is my daughter! How can wewe make children like her illegal?" She's crying now, eyes tinged blue and green. I think I am crying too, but it all sounds so far away, I don't know.
The soldiers are silent, ignoring her pleas.
"I'm begging you!" Her tail forcefully slams into the soldier gripping my arm, and there is the briefest instant of hope as I reach for her. Her hand grips mine.
Then I am jerked away, and the hope is gone.
The soldier looks at her, eyes dead and cold and somehow burning red. "You will never see her again. We are taking her somewhere wewe cannot find and cannot tafuta for."
Two zaidi of the soldiers reached for my mother's arms and began leading her away. "You are sentenced to death for the concealment of an illegal and dangerous child."
"No! Mom!" I know I am crying now. I beat at the soldiers leading me away, but I may have been a pebble tapping their tails for all the attention they paid.
The last glimpse I get of my mother is her terrified face, her white hand reaching for mine, and the machungwa, chungwa trigger of the harpoon gun that is shot through her moyo before I hit my head on a rock, and everything goes black.
I scream awake, covered in a cold sweat.
The same two dreams every night for the last six years.
But never as clear as that. Not as vivid, not as completely, utterly terrifying.
Tears stream down my face, and I impatiently wipe them away. But sweeping the tears doesn't dull the pain. I am crying. Not only from the sadness, but from the realization of how completely and totally alone I am.
How alone I will always be.

Title may not make sense, but after this lesson, you'll know rules wewe never knew before.
Now, to be blunt and get to the main part, here are the rules.
Further vs. Farther
When trying to decide between the above words, consider this.
Further refers to theoretical distance. Saying something like, "I'm thinking it through further," versus saying, "I'm traveling down the yellow brick road farther," is a big difference.
Farther is physical distance, meaning there is actually force happening.
Onto vs Unto
Onto means on juu of. Unto means something coming to something. If wewe do unto others, wewe give them the same courtesy wewe would want from them. Most of the time wewe can use unto and to interchangably.
