Chapter 5: Difficulties

"Thanks for coming Nahuel,” I wrapped my arms around him and he kissed my cheek. Beside me Jacob let out a low growl. I glanced at him as I released Nahuel. His face was tight. Nahuel disappeared out the door, following the crowd of people. I looked over to see Emily hand in hand with Seth. He was smiling brightly at her as she leaned into his side. The last guest dwindled out and Alice shut the door, bouncing up and down. I leaned into Jacob, exhausted. I put my hand on his cheek.
“Me too Ness. I’m tired just like wewe but I don’t think there through with wewe yet” he murmured. I stretched up on my toes and wrapped my arms around him. He kissed me quietly for a moment, the heat of his lips penetrating my skin.
“Will wewe too cut it out?” My dad snapped irritably from behind us. I leaned around Jacob.
“I have to watch wewe and mom like this all the time,” he cringed.
“You had that one coming Edward,” Rosalie chimed, having changed into a pair of regular jeans and a light blouse. Emmett wrapped his arms around her and rested his head on her shoulder.
“Can I onyesha her now?” Alice wined, glancing at my parents. They laughed and my mother rolled her eyes, the enthusiasm all to familiar to her. Alice grabbed my hand and rolled her eyes when I grabbed Jacob’s, towing him along with me. She lead me towards the garage. She glanced at Jacob.
“Cover her eyes. Don’t let her peak,” her voice was serious. I heard her open the door and Jacob’s warm hands slid over my eyes. He kissed my cheek and lead me into the garage. I sighed.
“Okay! Open your eyes Ness,” I grabbed Jacob’s hand, keeping a firm hold on it. In front of me was a pretty black Porsche with a giant baby blue ribbon wrapped around it.
“You guys! I upendo it!” I shrieked, letting Jacob’s hand fall out of mine and running my hands against the car.
“That’s just from your mom and dad. While wewe were dancing Rose and I fixed your closet,” Alice said, her tone mischievous. I rolled my eyes.
“And our other gift was inviting Jacob. Rose was all against it but we convinced her. And now that wewe know the truth Jacob can come around zaidi than he already does,”
“No please no!” Rosalie groaned. I laughed and turned around to hug my parents.
“Thanks for the car. I upendo I!” I chimed. My mom released me and I hugged my dad.
“Thanks daddy,” I murmured, but I wasn’t thanking him for the car. I was thanking him for letting Jake tell me. He laughed.
“Anything for our Nessie,” Jacob laughed as they eyed us funny and disappeared through the door. I looked up at him and sighed. His warm arms wrapped around me and I leaned into him.
“You know Ness, my cars still better,” I pulled away and looked up at him, sticking my car out.
“Mines newer,” I said, impersonating a snotty voice. He laughed and I pressed my lips against his. His arms tightened around me and I twisted my fingers in his hair. When he pulled away I was gasping for breath.
“You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to do that,” he murmured against my forehead. I giggled and opened the door to my Porsche, sitting inside on the new fresh smelling leather. He climbed into the passenger side and I looked at him, forgetting where I was for the moment.
“Explain it to me. Please. Just zaidi in detail,” he sighed and took my hand, kissing my forehead.
“When wewe were born I loved your mother and I stayed around for her, at least that’s what I thought. But when I went downstairs I looked at you, so determined to kill you, everything changed. When wewe imprint wewe know right away that the person is the one that your meant for. I looked at wewe and it was like everything that was holding me here disconnected, was sliced away. And then wewe were the only thing holding me here after that. I was connected to you, like some kind of gravitational force pulled me in. Your mom tried to hurt me once she knew that I had imprinted on you. I know that it sounds creepy. Loving a little baby girl. But that’s not what its like. Of course I loved wewe when wewe were little, just not the same way. I wanted wewe to be happy, to protect you. When the Volturi came and your mother told me that I might have to run away with wewe I wasn’t ready. I wanted to live peacefully around you. I wanted to be able to live happily. But I am now. Once wewe got older and things changed I was your best friend, knowing that I couldn’t let my other feelings rule until wewe were completely matured. But now that wewe have your excepting me as well. Our imprint is as strong as the bond between your parents, if not stronger. Your mother was meant for me if Edward had never existed and I was meant for her. But Edward was real and wewe were real.” I stared up at his black eyes, so full of upendo and adoration that it made my moyo swell.
“So I can have wewe for forever?” I whispered, looking up at him. He laughed and pulled me onto his lap.
“Forever Ness. I’ll always be here.”

***

“There are still rules to this,” Jacob snorted from beside me and I leaned into his side, tucking my legs under me.
“You know Edward, I think she’s old enough to make her own decisions.” My father snarled at him and Alice rolled her eyes, placing a bouquet of roses on the juu of the kinanda where my parents sat. She danced back to Jasper who was sitting on the bottom of the stairs, and sat down in his lap, looking ever so graceful. Of course the party decorations had already been cleared away as if it had never happened. We hadn’t been in the car that long…
“She’s seven years old,” he growled as Jacob tightened his arm around my shoulder. We were all sitting in the living room after having coming back from being inside my Porsche.
“Actually she’s seventeen Edward. Her body aged past her actual age and wewe excepted that a long time ago,” Rosalie corrected as she walked through the front door. Emmett followed behind her, dripping wet from the pouring rain. He shook his hair out like a dog splattering the glass walls with watery drops of mud. Esme sighed and danced out of the room, into the kitchen, appearing again with cleaning supplies.
“Let me Esme,” Emmett said, grinning widely. She rolled her eyes and brushed past him, passing a hand against his shoulder. Emmett disappeared gracefully into the hallway hidden under the stairs and Rosalie followed him. I sighed and looked up at Jacob who had his eyebrows raised, looking at my father. My father’s face was tight with anger. Jacob was probably playing with him, inaonyesha him thoughts that he shouldn’t. I pressed my hand against his cheek and he looked down at me.
Don’t make him mad Jacob. au he’ll never let this work. Jake chuckled and kissed my forehead.
“No worries Ness,” he murmured.
“If wewe stay here any longer mongrel wewe will have something to worry about,” Rosalie said, appearing out of the shadows, dried off and with a new set of clothes on. Emmett followed after her smiling like nothing was going on.
“Hey Blondie. Why do blondes always smile during lighting storms?” Rosalie scowled at him stood there with her arms crossed across her chest. Emmett slung his arm around her shoulder, his eyes zeroed in on the TV, which was of course on a football game.
“They think their picture is being taken,” Rosalie glided past him and smacked him in the back of the head. He didn’t even flinch. I sighed at them. Perhaps Rosalie and Jacob would never be friendly towards each other.
“Don’t count on it Ness,” my father murmured. I narrowed my eyes at him. I wished my mind was my own.
“Me to.” he murmured to himself. My mother sighed and wrapped her arms around his waist. He turned his attention to her.
“So uh are we done here?” I asked, trying to sound nonchalant. It didn’t work. My father looked up from my mother.
“No. There are rules. Your staying in this house for now. Until wewe at least finish high school. wewe have a curfew too. Eleven ‘o’ clock” Jacob groaned from beside me. I laughed and turned back to my father who’s face was frozen with anger.
“Dad?” His face spazzed for a moment and he ripped himself out of my mother’s arms. Everyone in the room stood all at once as a horrible painful howl shook the house. It sounded tortured, broken.
“Embry-” Jacob choked. His hands trembled and I watched as he exploded into his mbwa mwitu form, out of the door.
“Jake!” I screamed, pain racking through me. I stepped to follow him but Rose’s vice like grip caught my arm.
“Nessie wewe have to stay here!” My dad yelled. Alice yanked Jasper off the stairs.
“Carlisle!” she yelled. Carlisle appeared at the juu of the stairs, Esme immediately at his side.
“Carlisle wewe have to come!” she yelled, rushing out the front door. Rosalie’s arm disappeared from around me and Emmett jumped the stairs to follow her. My mother looked at me, her face torn.
“What’s going on?!” I yelled. But everyone had already disappeared out the front door. I watched as they disappeared into the night. Where was my Jacob? And who had howled like that? My hands were trembling. I rushed upstairs and changed out of the white dress, throwing a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. I opened up my window and jumped out, landing quietly on the balls of my feet. I turned towards the front of the house and followed their scent. Running as fast as I could, I found them in five minutes, down on First Beach. I spotted Jacob first from where I was standing on one of the cliffs, overlooking everything. He was hovering in his giant mbwa mwitu form, surrounded my eighteen wolves, the three newest Mbwa mwitu loups hovering on the edges. I could see from here that they all had their teeth gritted and were shivering, hovering over another wolf. My parents pushed their way through the crowd, my mother resting her hand on Jacob’s shoulder. Carlisle bent down and I gasped. I could see from here the familiar grey fur, manyoya of Embry Call’s back and neck was stained in blood. I watched Jacob shiver and phase, yanking his clothes on. No one paid any attention to him, not even me. I had to get down there. I turned and sprinted towards the road that would take me down to the beach. Once my feet hit the sand a few turned to look at me. Jake turned as I pushed my way through the crowd.
“Renesmee,” my father growled. I snarled back at him, barely registering the look on his face. Leah stood on the other side of Jacob, her grey fur, manyoya standing up. I looked down at Embry. He was shaking.
“Embry. I need wewe to face back to your human form. wewe have to. I can’t work on wewe if wewe don’t.” Carlisle murmured. Embry howled and I covered my ears, as the pack took a step back, whining. Leah jerked away and appeared on the side of one of the new wolves, Carson, leaning into his side. Leah had found her imprint the siku Carson had changed. Embry’s horrible howl changed suddenly into a string of curses. I realized that while I had been looking at Leah and Carson, Embry had changed back. His eyes were wide with pain like he couldn’t see. Carlisle flung a blanket that one of the Mbwa mwitu loups had in their mouths around him.
“Jacob. I need him to come to my house. He’ll have to deal with the scent.” Jacob nodded firmly, his eyes tight. He scooped Embry up gently and I saw Sam appeared on his side, growling, the hair on the back of his neck standing up. Jacob ran towards the woods, back towards my house. I took off after him, aware that every mbwa mwitu and vampire was following as well. After five dakika we were back. Embry had fallen unconscious as Jacob took him upstairs. My father rushed past me and opened up a door to a room that hadn’t been used in years. Jacob set Embry on the cold metal operating table. Carlisle reached into a drawer and grabbed a bag of morphine, hooking it up to him. I looked out the door and down the stairs to see that all of the Mbwa mwitu loups were on the front lawn. Seth and Leah had phased back and were in the house. They were used to being in the Cullen house.
“Jake,” I whimpered, fully seeing Embry’s damages. His neck was bleeding and his arm was limp at his side, probably broken.
“Jacob get her out of here,” my father growled, aiding Carlisle, pulling a metal syringe out of a drawer. I pushed against Jacob, who’s eyes were hollow, but he picked me up into his arms. I closed my eyes as he disappeared into my room, shutting the door behind him, setting me on his bed.
“I’ll be right back,” he murmured. I gripped his hand.
“Your not leaving me hear,” I alisema through my teeth. He pulled me back up and I followed him down the stairs. His hand came down on Seth’s shoulder, patting it. I had never seen Seth look so sad and hurt. Jacob continued onto the front lawn.
“Carlisle will heal Embry. His ribs are already healing, and so are his arms. He’ll be fine. I want wewe all out patrolling tonight. None of them get near this house and none of them get back into La Push. They get anywhere near and wewe sound the alarm. Sam I need wewe to give that order to your pack.” Sam nodded and I knew that he was already telling them. They all looked so pained. Jacob’s pack was Seth, Leah, Embry, Quil, the new wolves, Carson, Payson, and Adam. Jacob nodded and they took off. Carson stopped and Leah ran her fingers through his fur.
“I’ll be there in a minute,” he nodded his large head, and disappeared into the woods.
“Jake, are wewe sure he’s gonna be okay?” I wrapped my arms around him and leaned my head into his side, tears pooling in my eyes. He sighed and shooed Leah and Seth away. I looked up at him and his hot fingers brushed the tears away as he pulled me back upstairs to my room. He set me down on my bad and I pulled him down to, leaning my head against him. I pressed my hand against his cheek, pulling myself up to look into his eyes.
What happened? I didn’t want to speak for fear that my voice would break. Jacob’s eyes were tight as he looked down at me.
“Embry was attacked,” he murmured.
“By who? Vampires?” I whispered. I felt him shake under me.
“No Nessie. Wolves. There’s another pack and they came to find us. But Embry was alone and they attacked him. I don’t know why because he didn’t know either.” I looked up.
“Don’t leave me Jake. Please!” I cried, tears glistening on both of our cheeks. He brought me closer.
“I’m not leaving Nessie. I’ll stay with you. Just rest. I’ll be here when wewe wake up,” he murmured almost silently. I closed my eyes and fell asleep to the steady beating of the moyo that belonged to me.

Jacob was not there when I woke up. But I wasn’t angry. I could hear his heavy beating moyo a few doors down. I could also hear a streaming line of cusses coming from the room he was in. Embry must be awake again. I sighed and climbed out of my bed, my feet hitting the cold floor, continuing onto the bathroom, starting my shower. I let the hot water work through my muscles, washing away Jacob’s smell and the blood that Jacob had accidentally smeared against my arm when he had held me. I rubbed my inayopendelewa berry shampoo through my hair and stepped out, my skin still it’s same glowing pale. I sighed and dried off my hair with a towel, deciding to let it dry naturally, knowing that if I didn’t look suitable enough Alice and Rosalie would pounce. It was hard to believe that just yesterday I had had my seventeenth birthday party and Jacob had confessed that he belonged to me. I sighed and yanked on a simple pair of shorts and a t-shirt, not caring what Alice would say. I had other things on my mind. I opened my door and took a step back when I saw my father standing there, his face a mask of fury.
“Renesmee Carlie Cullen!” he growled. What had I done? I was sleeping…
“You disobeyed me last night. That’s what wewe did,” his eyes were like golden flames, burning deep in their sockets.
“Daddy I just had to. I didn’t know what had happened. I didn’t know if any of wewe were going to get hurt,” Immediately his face softened. He passed a hand over my wet hair.
“I know. But wewe have to listen inayofuata time. I knew we would be fine but wewe just have to listen,” he alisema the last part through his teeth.
“I will Daddy. Uh where’s Jacob?” His swali was answered for me.
“Right here Ness,” Jacob appeared from behind my father, towering over him, dark circles under his dark black eyes. My dad rolled his eyes and disappeared down the stairs. I heard my mother whisper something to him. I looked up at Jacob, hesitant to touch him. His eyes were hollowed with pain, and he needed sleep badly. He took a step towards me and crushed his lips against mine and wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me off the ground. I twisted my fingers in his hair just as he set me back.
“Good morning,” he murmured, life burning through his eyes. I smiled at him and I heard his moyo stutter. I traced his smile with my fingers, making him shiver. He caught my hand and brushed his hand against my cheek, sending a tremor of heat through me.
“You look so tired,” I whispered. He sighed and sat down on my bed, pulling me onto his lap.
“Sorry I wasn’t here when wewe woke up,” he murmured into my hair, brushing his lips against my cheek. I turned and wrapped my arms around him.
“It’s okay. wewe were here to help me get to sleep. I wouldn’t have been able to if not. Did wewe not sleep?” He shook his head and I kissed his cheek. He turned his head and brought his lips to mine.
“I upendo wewe Nessie. I really do,” I put my hand against his hot cheek, warming my cold hand.
“I think I upendo wewe more,” I alisema gleefully. He laughed and I smiled in response.
“I doubt it.” I growled and he kissed my cheek. His eyes drooped a bit. I put my hand on his cheek.
Sleep Jacob. We have forever. Sleep I crooned to him. He smiled and kissed my hand, scooting back farther onto my bed.
“You know that your mine right?” he asked as he closed his eyes. He didn’t open his eyes to see my confused expression.
“Yes I know,” He chuckled.
“I may have to make that clear to Nahuel,” his voice trailed off and he started to snore. I laughed and kissed his forehead, climbing off my bed. I glanced back at him once before shutting the door.
The hallway was empty and I could hear quiet breathing down the hallway. I opened the door and poked my head through, the bright white light reflecting off the still bloody operating table.
“Hey Nessie,” Embry murmured. His arm was in a kombeo and his rips were taped up tightly, though I knew he was already close to being healed kwa now. The spot on his neck looked old, only a puckered pink line.
“How wewe doing?” I asked. He smiled and touched my cheek.
“I’m good Nessie. Jake sleeping?” he cringed as he shifted his weight. I frowned.
“Yea. He crashed the moment he closed his eyes,” Embry snorted. I smiled at him. The door opened behind me and Carlisle walked in, followed kwa Seth. I grinned at Seth.
“How’s Emily?” His face lit up.
“She’s amazing…I told her everything last night. She can’t believe that wewe didn’t tell her that Jacob and I were werewolves. I barely had any time with before…” he trailed off and glanced at Embry as Carlisle injected zaidi morphine. It was something that his body would burn off quickly. But it would temporarily relieve him enough of the pain to sleep. I glanced back at Seth, Embry, and Carlisle before disappearing out of the room. I had nothing to do. I sighed, deciding not to talk to Alice au Rosalie since they would want to fix my outfit and hair. I jumped down the stairs and glanced at the piano. I had watched my father play for years. I was sure that I could do it…I sat down and brushed my hands against the keys, making the sound I wanted to. I let the muziki pound under my fingers and let it hum softly around the room. It was nothing that my father had ever played before. I closed my eyes and drifted into a sweeter tone, thinking of Jacob. I ended the song with a long high note, brushing my fingers like an expert over the keys. When I stopped I heard clapping. I turned and blushed. My whole family was standing there. I ducked my head and my mother rolled her eyes, understanding yet again. Attention was not something I was exactly to fond of, though I didn’t mind it as much as my mother. Alice shrieked.
“Why do wewe insist on dressing like that?” I couldn’t help but growl. Emmett laughed.
“That’s the Ness I know. Jacob crashed in your room?” he asked. I nodded.
“I’m gonna go hunt,” I murmured to them. Alice danced along beside me.
“Can I come?” I looked into her dhahabu eyes for a one moment and I realized she wanted to come to tell me something. I nodded. She hooker her arm through mine and we jumped the river easily together. As soon as we were far enough away she looked over at me.
“There’s a bonfire tonight and Jacob, I think, is going to try and not go because of Embry. But he has to Nessie if wewe don’t want him to go crazy. So I just wanted to tell wewe out here so he couldn’t hear me,” I smiled and she hugged me, turning and disappearing back out towards the house. I sighed and closed my eyes, letting my smell and hearing take over. I heard a rustle in the trees a hundred yards away and the scent of a mountain lion wafted my way. I took off and crept up behind it, taking it down in about a minute. When I was finished and felt full I stood and brushed the leaves and dirt off of my arms. Sighing I sat down on the ground. I was so tired, though I had plenty of sleep. I wrapped my arms around me and rocked back and forth. I was breaking apart for some reason, having a panic idea.
“Ness?” a throaty voice asked me after a half an hour. I hadn’t moved. I felt Jacob stop behind me and his arms were suddenly around me, pulling me to my feet.
“What’s wrong?” his voice was panicked. I felt my wide eyes.
“I don’t know,” I whispered. He pulled me into his warm embrace and kissed the juu of my head.
“Come on lets go back to the house,” he took my hand and I stopped, throwing myself around him. He looked down at me in confusion. I brought his mouth to mine and he leaned over, pulling me closer.
“Nessie what’s wrong?” he asked as he pulled away with a heavy voice.
“I don’t know!” I sobbed. A tear fell down my cheek and he flinched, brushing it away.
“Come on,” he murmured. This time he wrapped his arm around me, cloaking me with his heat. We walked at a human pace taking our time.
“Your taking me to the bonfire tonight right?” I asked. He stiffened around me and then relaxed, sighing.
“Do wewe want to go?” I wrapped my arms tightly around his waist as he kept walking.
“Yes. And both packs need wewe there,” I looked up to see his tight expression. He looked down at me, his black eyes connecting with my brown, and his face softened.
“We’ll go, but your not leaving my side.” Laughing I stretched up to kiss him. He picked me up to make it easier. He was so tall and I was so little, almost pixyish like Alice.
“I planned on it,” I whispered against his lips. He laughed and pulled me back towards the house.

“It’s cold,” My teeth were chattering and there were Goosebumps raised on my arms. Jacob chuckled and opened the door to my Porsche, cranking th heat. I shivered and he ran his hand over my face, leaving a trail of warmth. I shivered into his hand and he pulled away laughing.
“Where is it this time?” His eyes focused on the forest as we pulled out of the long drive.
“Down at First Beach,” I nodded and punched the gas, my stomach lurching when it streaked forward.
“Jeez Ness!” Jacob alisema his eyes wide with laughter. He kissed the juu of my head but I noticed that his eyes were aware and sharp, looking for something I couldn’t see. He relaxed when I pulled into the tiny parking lot kwa the beach. I climbed out and he was at my side slinging his arm around me. I leaned into his warm arm. It was cold and the pink sweatshirt I had on was zaidi for looks rather than keeping me warm. But Jacob would keep me warm. He pulled me down the beach, pwani and I spotted eighteen wolves, nineteen now counting Jacob, sitting around a giant bonfire.

“You smell like wet dog,” Rosalie alisema as I climbed into the passenger kiti, kiti cha of the silver Volvo. Alice jumped into the back seat, her cold skin brushing mine.
“Well what do wewe expect? We all heard Jacob come in.” Alice’s laugh rang like bells behind me. My eyes widened in shock and Rosalie snickered, flipping her blonde hair and glancing in the rearview mirror.
“Come on Ness! Jacob’s quiet but he’s not that quiet. We all heard him. Emmett was getting ready to rip him to pieces when he heard him but once wewe were asleep Jacob came down and explained that wewe asked him to come,”...
