Here’s Why Justin Bieber Is Making Sure His Own Song Isn’t No. 1 This Christmas

Remember in “Love Actually” when slimy superstar Billy Mack is gunning for the U.K.’s coveted Christmas No. 1 spot with his cheesy tune “Christmas Is All Around?” Well, that same race is currently underway, and though it’s reportedly the closest one in years, Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” is maintaining the lead atop the charts.

But Biebs is feelin’ the holiday spirit this week, and he’s let his heart grow two sizes too big by requesting that his loyal army of Beliebers throw their support to the current second-place contender: the Greenwich NHS Choir.

Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted out an Official Charts report on Wednesday (Dec. 23), alerting Bieber and his “Love Yourself” collaborator Ed Sheeran to the close race.

That’s when JB directed his fans to download the choir’s “A Bridge Over You” (a mashup of Coldplay’s “Fix You” and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water”), because proceeds from the downloads are being shared between two healthcare charities. And that’s what Christmas is all about.

We’ll have to wait until Christmas Day to find out how the race pans out, but no matter what happens, this was indeed a heartwarming move on the notably-competitive Bieber’s part. No coal for him this Christmas.
