Obviously Van Der Sar was at his peak and in terms of playing ability... he's the one I would have wanted to keep.
But I've never known a United side without Scholes and he has such respect from other players, which just goes to show how great he was. Every team needs players like him... where the young players can see his dedication to football and especially the club. He was a true United player.

Scholes had reversed his retirement because of the injury crisis in the Manchester United squad. In contrast, Van der Sar never came back to Old Trafford in the 2011/12 season. Van der Sar had won the Premier League Golden Glove for keeping 21 clean sheets in Premier League 2008-09 season. The replacing goalkeeper David de Gea only kept 13 clean sheets.
