"Who cares that the founder of Harrington liked fresh eggs so much that he had his own henhouse?" Ashley moaned. "That is so totally boring!" It was Monday afternoon. Ashley and Phoebe were in the school library, flipping through encyclopedias and looking up information for their newspaper makala on Phineas T. Harrington III. "The dresses they wore back then weren't boring," Phoebe said. She pointed to a picture of two women wearing floor-length dresses that flared out in a large hoop shape at the bottom. "There were extreme!" Ashley wasn't surprised that Phoebe liked the dresses. Her roommate loved vintage clothes!

"How did women back then fit through doorways?" Ashley wondered. "Didn't the hoopskirt get in the way?" "Maybe doorways were wider in those days," Phoebe guessed. Ashley sighed. There had to be something exciting about Phineas T. Harrington III! She thought. She opened another book and stared at a portrait on the first page. It was a picture of a dark-haired woman with big, sad eyes. "Who's that?" Phoebe peered over Ashley's shoulder.

"Her name was Lucretia Arsdale," Ashley read. "She used to live on the White Oak Academy grounds before the school was built."

"So, where is the famous maze?" I asked my friend Mitch Mason.
Mitch, my twin sister, Ashley, and I stood on the back porch of Mitch's house. The two of us were visiting Mitch's family farm. The air was crisp, and the leaves had already begun turning colors. It was the perfect place to spend Halloween.
Mitch plopped onto the porch swing. His red hair sparkled in the sunlight. "The maze is behind the barn," he alisema finally. He grabbed a handful of Candy mahindi, nafaka from a bowl on the meza, jedwali inayofuata to him and popped some into his mouth.
Mitch used to go to our school before his family moved. All mwaka long...

"Thanks for picking us up, Rod," Ashley said. "Don't mention it," seventeen-year-old Rodney Choy replied. He worked for Headquarters, too. Rod drove the girls wherever they needed to go. "Looks like we have a big problem," Rod went on. "Someone is messing with muziki broadcasting all across the country." "Tell us about it." Mary-Kate groaned. "We can't get any muziki on the radio except some horrible song kwa Capital D."
"If wewe ask me," Quincy said, "Capital D is a Capital Dork!" "I hope we can take care of this mission fast," Ashley said. "Mary-Kate and I have a big science test coming up." "What is it on?" Rod asked. "Sound," Ashley replied.
"I know tons of facts about sound," Quincy said. "Sound travels in waves through the air at different levels." "Those levels are called frequencies, right?" Mary-Kate asked. "Right," Quincy said.
"Boy, it sure is fun to be nyumbani for a change!" Ashley told her sister Mary-Kate. The two teenage girls were walking their dog, Quincy, down their street. Mary-Kate nodded. "I upendo flying around the world on top-secret missions," she said. "But sometimes I get homesick." Mary-Kate and Ashley had the most amazing jobs. They were special agents. Their missions took them to faraway places all the time. "I get homesick, too," Quincy said.
"Shhh," Ashley said, looking down at the Scottish terrier. "Someone might hear you." "So?" Quincy asked. "So in case wewe forgot," Mary-Kate alisema with a smile, "real...

MODERN ICON

She is an actress, a designer and a fashion icon. Luke Crisell meets the very private Mary-Kate Olsen to discover what influences her unique sense of style.

The second-oldest cemetery in Manhattan is a small, well-maintained affair: the names of those interred here are inscribed on tablets lining the walls. Hazelnut trees dot the lawn. Once an undistinguished plot of land on the Lower East Side, the graveyard now abuts the tiled patio of a boutique hotel where Mary-Kate Olsen has decided we should meet. "I remember this place used to be so cool", she says, raising her eyes to the...
