I posted this over on the random club but I wanted to see the opinions of people who don't use random as well.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some of the live actions and reboots (like Voltron and She-Ra) but I kind of want this reboot/live action craze to die down. At this point it comes off to me as Hollywood being lazy. There's such an influx of reboots and live action remakes it's almost over powering new, original works.

That's one of the reasons I like horror movies so much; these days it seems like that's one of the few genres that has original content being made. Even then we have some remakes, but I find that those are more or less continuations or prequels--which is still more original than, say, the fantasy genre.

Disney especially needs to stop this imo. I'd rather have new princesses and such than the Aladdin live action...

^I'm sorry, does Will Smurf Smith not live up to your live-action genie standards? XD

I think some of the reboots and remakes are a genuine chance to try something new with a classic story - Dumbo, for example, doesn't look like a carbon-copy of the animated original. And I like the idea of giving not-so-successful movies another chance, like with Pete's Dragon. But remaking the exact same movie just to get people in theaters seems kinda pathetic.

Seems like the studios see reboots and remakes as the safe route - people already love the story, so let's just bleed this sucker dry. Stop being afraid to try something different, y'all. Take a risk. Take a chance. Or just go ahead and make a live-action Goofy Movie, whatever. XD

I want more live action remakes. Alita: Battle Angel shows how great live action remakes can be.

Hmm, I agree somewhat that nowadays I feel less and less movies have originality with brand new storylines/setting, but I'm still ok with investing on live-action remake, especially after witnessing how amazing the transformation can be (like 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Alita', 'Avengers', 'The Jungle Book' etc).
I can continue watching those without getting bored for another 5 more years I guess, but after which it'll be good to have more movies with totally original storylines :)

@Dark Oml Will Smurf. What a dream lad.

I agree with you though; if they can take a show or story and put their own unique twist on it or deiviate some from the original content than I don't mind as much. But I'm tired of pretty much direct re-hashes of the same stuff. It's like the whole 'can I copy your test', 'sure but don't make it obvious' meme.

For me its 50-50, since I do like to see new ideas but both the Live Action Remakes and Reboots give a new perspective compared to the original.

I'm half/half, really. I don't mind the idea of remakes, BUT Disney for example are pretty much just remaking their arguably most popular movies that still have huge fanbases (Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Jungle Book, Aladdin...), so it's a pointless unnecessary exercise, even if the end result may be good. They're just cashing in on people's nostalgia and it feels so insincere. It's clear they're not putting 100% effort because they know they'll make a profit regardless. Even if the upcoming The Lion King is absolutely terrible it'll still make money because the original is still so beloved and they're completely aware of this.

If they're intent on remakes they should be remaking their underappreciated movies that need a boost instead. Imagine how good a live-action Treasure Planet would look? Or Atlantis: The Lost Empire?
But nope, the movies we're getting don't need any form of remake at all because they're already extremely popular to begin with and don't need any kind of resurgence. It's lazy, pure and simple.

This right here is exactly why it bothers me! Like it would be different if they tried to, perhaps, deviate from the original work a bit and put a new spin on it. Instead they produce a carbon-copy of the original to bring in more cash. They take the 'safe' route. Hell, I'd be happy if (like you said) they tried to remake a classic that didn't have as much fame to begin with. The problem with Disney and other companies is that they aren't taking risks anymore and for some reason, people just settle for it.
Personally, I haven't seen a live action Disney movie in ages, because I don't want to support that kind of laziness.

I'm wanting to say that it's because they don't have to. Disney practically owns the industry so there's no competition and no need to be creative anymore.
