Private sits kwa himself at the lunch table. He hears the other wanyama laughing and pointing at him.
A monkey comes up to him and looks at him with a smile and his hands behind his back.
Private looks up and smiles back, about to say hello. "Maybe he wants to be my friend" He thought. As he opened his mouth the monkey quickly took out a pie from behind his back and slammed it into the poor penguins face.
"Haha take that tubby!" Someone yelled in the group the monkey came from. The whole cafeteria then started to laugh at Private. Then the monkey went back to the group. "How was that?" the mammal asked.
"That was just the thing to jiunge our group, man wewe are gonna fit in just nicely!" alisema a wolf.
The monkey looked back at the penguin, auk saddly wiping the pie off his face, while the rest of the lunch room was still laughing. The wave of guilt washed over him.
The mbwa mwitu looked at the monkey and put his arm around him. "Hey, don't worry kid. We make fun of him and he doesn't mind. It makes him feel wanted. Thats what this group does we make the, er, quiet ones feel wanted." He looked at the monkey and continued," if wewe want to stay in this group and be somebody, then that is what wewe do..... wewe don't want to be a nobody, do you?" He eyed him.
The monkey shook his head rapidly, "Oh, no, no I'll do anything to be in this group." Seeing that the mbwa mwitu was satisfied and turned to the senior members of the group the monkey turned his back to the penguin. "I don't want him dead, au anything...ah maybe he will understand.....
At another meza, jedwali a fox, mbweha watched the whole thing happen kwa herself, she felt so helpless to help the penguin, auk in need....
~Later~
School was out and Private walked kwa himself on the sidewalk all the way home. wewe could hear
sniffleling from him."Maybe I should just kill myself today, I mean no one wants me at the school. They all make fun of me.....
_____
The inayofuata siku at school wewe see a penguin, auk walking toward the field house. Something black hanging from his flippers. "Might as well do it at school. To let them see how much pain they have caused me. They won't spread rumors of what happened to me. au maybe they won't care at all and go on with the day..."
wewe could hear a faint whisper calling his name... "Private!" He looked up at the sky. Was that his maker calling him? Was he approving of his choice? It came louder, and louder. No it couldn't be. How could it become louder. No it was a female voice. He quickly turned around. He saw a fox, mbweha running toward him.
He've seen this vixen before, he always saw her sitting kwa herself either in the lunchroom au out in the courtyard under a tree. He hid the metal object behind his back, as the vixen caught up.
He waited as the fox, mbweha caught her breath. "it is Private right?" the penguin, auk nodded. "Thats a cool name," Shaking her head she continued, "anyways what are wewe doing out here? It's almost lunch time and I saw wewe in the hallway and I followed you." She quickly paused and continued. " No stalker intended"
Private smiled at her a bit then frowned. "Yeah, so wewe found me, and?" He looked over at the bushes. "You've come to make fun of me to jiunge Dodge's group?"
The fox's ears went down and she cast a glance at her paws, " N-no, I would never want to jiunge that group, I saw what they did to you. I don't want any part of that..." She looked Private in his eyes. " I just wanted to know if wewe wanted to have lunch with me. wewe know maybe talk and stuff. Become Marafiki wewe know..."
The word, that word! Friends... He then took a quick glance at his back. "Not today" He thought. He then
looked back at his future friend. "sure." was all Private could say.
Her ear went back up and her green eyes brightened. "Really!" But that one sekunde that he looked at his back. That one sekunde where he went in thought, that one sekunde his eyes brightened. What was he hiding back there? "If wewe don't mind me asking, but what is behind your back?" Questioned the vixen.
Private's grip on the object loosened and he sheepishly took it out of hiding. The look on the fox's face was unbelievable. In the penguins hand was a hand gun.
"Private! wewe weren't thinking?..."
He nodded. "No one wants me at the school so I thought that if I killed myself then the pain of the unwanted will be freed and they can go on with feeling the pain that I felt.
The fox, mbweha shook her head and grabbed the gun, put it on the ground, and started to dig. "Killing yourself is never the answer. Its the worst and selfish thing to do." Seeing the hole big enough she carefully picked up the gun in her mouth and placed it in. Continueing on, and reburring it. "When some one kills themselves they don't ever think of the pain that is caused on their family". Her voice choking she continued."...The pain that the parents won't ever see their child again, the pain that there is not another birthday to celebrate.... The pain of not ever seeing that child graduating high school, or... au seeing what the parents could never be." She looked down at the now burried gun.
Private was speachless. All that pain for many year's for his parents, and his brother. He was only thinking of his own actions. "I promise..." the fox, mbweha looked up and wiped away tears that escaped. "I promise that I will never think about it again." He hugged the fox. "But now knowing that I have at least people who want me around, and now I can add one zaidi to that list."
The penguin's now new friend hugged him back and pulled away. "Same here." was all she said.
The ring of the school kengele sounded.
Smiling the fox, mbweha turned and looked back at Private. "come on lets go have lunch" She started her way to the building.
Private waddled at her side. "You know I never caught your name."
The vixen giggled and looked at him. "Name's Cadet."
