I'm not especially fond of the part at the end where she runs across Bath, but Rupert Penry Jones was perfection as Wentworth. He gave me goosebumps.

fanfly picked 1995 version:
I definitely prefer the '95 version. The actors in the '07 version are just too young. Not that Anne and Frederick are supposed to be ancient, but they are mature. Rupert Penry Jones looked particularly fresh faced- especially for a naval captain! But beyond that, I thought they rushed the story and lost a great deal of the subtlety that I enjoyed so much about the '95 version. Sally Hawkins was borderline annoying with her weird twitchiness- in the kiss scene she looks like a fish gawping for air! Or maybe she wanted to chew his face off! Most unromantic film kiss I've ever seen. Oh and another scene particularly bothered me- when Frederick confesses to a tableful of mostly new acquaintances (including two impressionable, eligible young ladies) that any woman may have him for the taking! As if any gentleman of that day would do such a thing. That should have been a private conversation with his sister or something. And Anne running about Bath at the end? Ridiculous, pointless and just weird.
But I am going to watch it again, with a more unbiased eye, and see if I can glean a romantic movie from it. I did that with the '05 P&P- the first time I saw it I hated it for the way it differed from the Colin Firth version and the book. But since then I have learned to love it for a romantic movie on its own and not compared to anything. Maybe I can learn to do that with the new Persuasion too!

I agree that Rupert Penry-Jones was scrumptious...and I wanted to like Sally Hawkins but the odd moments (running and kissing scenes) are too entrenched in my head.
Amanda and Ciarin get my vote!

Echoes picked 2007 version:
I LOVED the 2007 version. The actors and actresses just totally captured how i saw all of the characters. They were really excellant. And while i agree that, yes, the running scene was a bit rediculous, especially the top view, i liked and understood the idea behind it. Also, i do think that, yes, they should have added more things from the book, like when Wentworth actually writes the letter, and they should have added more scenes where we can see the relationship between Benwick and Louisa develop more. All that notwithstanding, it was one of the best Period Dramas that I've seen in a long time.

I much prefer the 95 version both Amamda Root and Ciaran Hinds potrayal's are great. The 2007 is good too but as others have mentioned Sally Hawkins at times makes Anne Elliot seem so irratating and annoying.
