Princess Diana play: Watch actors perform scenes from Truth, Lies, Diana

The extracts focus on conversations between James Hewitt and the playwright

Writer Jon Conway has performed snippets from his controversial new play about Princess Diana.

During an interview with London Live, the writer briefly shared some dramatic moments from his new production

The excerpts performed by actor Fred Perry as James Hewitt and Conway, who also stars as playwright Ray, focus on the paternity of Prince Harry. 

In one extract Ray asks Hewitt if he knows who the father of the prince is, to which he responds, “Yes, of course I do.”

The rumours about the former household cavalry officer and Diana are not new, nor are the conspiracy theories touched upon in the play. But James Hewitt has firmly denied being Harry’s father.

follows Ray’s investigation into Princess Diana and her death. However, the play does not feature Princess Diana as a character instead it focuses on the people around the royal.

Conway said, “I don’t want to disturb the memory of Diana. What I want to do is attack the people, who I believe, didn’t tell the truth.”

He added, “She’s been airbrushed from history, swept under the red carpet” and described the death of Diana as “our JFK of this country”.

In December last year the writer dismissed reports that the play claims that Hewitt was Prince Harry’s father, telling BBC’s Newsbeat that “the press have run away with that story”.

Actor Perry said, “There is a media perception of James Hewitt, which I think is very different from the reality.”

“What’s interesting about working with Jon Conway, the writer, is that he’s met James on a number of occasions and understands what he’s like as an individual.”

Other people depicted in the play include Piers Morgan, Paul Burrell, Mohammed Al Fayed, members of MI6, witnesses to Diana\'s crash, and the British Royal Family.

opens at London\'s Charing Cross Theatre on 9 January.
