BOOK
bendaimmortal picked BOOK:
I'm going to comment on this totally comparing the two because this is a pick that requiers comparing - otherwise I would be able to seperate the film from the book and I do appreciate the film as a general vampire film. And I also do think it could have been worse as an adaptation too - not much, but it could've.

I have a love-hate thing for the film.

The movie has some betters over the book but not many, and not that significant ones so that to make me prefer it to the book..

Because it has too many characters and realtionships fucked up - and not all of them are even because of the story was changed so radically (basically due to limited minutes) but just because they were stupid enough to change them. (Like Jesse, no need to change her, and Marius's personality mixed with Magnus' - again no need to and they shouldn't have, as it violated the most vital relationship to the story - the Lestat & Marius one.)

And, they wasted half of the movie to something they invented all by themselves - the Lestat & Jesse "relationship".

The books' are more colourful and in-depth in storyline, character,s relatonships. And in the book the relationships that actually do really exsist in it, they work perfectly believably.

The film is entertaining and could stand on it's own feet if it wasn't advertised and credited as an adaptation of the books by Anne Rice, to which it doesn't pay much respect to.

I love and hate the film but I prefer the books without a question.

If you wish to know what and why I love about the film and think of it generally, there's too much to say.
You may read about it all on my Lestat&Marius fan site's certain section:

BOOK
Myf_1992 picked BOOK:
Films good. Seductive, thrilling etc.

But i reckon the books my favorite because it can go into more detail, explain things better. Plus you have the previous 2 books so the characters are more like old friends. I guess also because i can see in my minds eye what i like so its more personal.

But the film is awesome too. I like the actors etc. But as a comparison to the book it doesnt really hold up.

I think what im trying to say is, the film is good, the book is good, but because the film is ment to be an adaptation of the book, it didnt really do it justice.

Plus I love the end of the book where Lestat goes to talk to David and Louis is calling him the devil;

"You are the perfect Devil, Lestat!" he was saying. "That's what you are! You are the Devil himself!"

"Yes I konw" .... "And I love to hear you say it, Louis. I need to hear you say it. I don't think anyone will ever say it quite like you do. Come on, say it again. I'm a perfect devil. Tell me how bad I am. It makes me feel so good!"

Book rocks the movie hardly covered a couple of chapters,my advice is go spend .50 at a used bookstore or Amazon.com sells used books and get the paperback.Force your self to sit down and read a chapter a night it's totally worth it!

I didn't care for the movie to be honest. IT is good if you haven't read the book, but once you read that book, you think omfg they screwed up a lot of shit. I still love Stewart Townsends sexy ass though and I thought they did pretty well with the casting, but who ever wrote that screenplay should get smacked.

This was really hard (I wish there was an option to choose both). I chose the film because of Stuart's performance and the music, both beautiful.

bendaimmortal picked BOOK:
:P While I understand there may be other aspects that appeal to some people more, I still don't understand how can anyone have troubles choosing original and indepth characters in colourful storylines (as in, the book), over unoriginal and more or less shallow characters in cliche-filled storylines, (as in, the film.) No offense intended there. Please. :D

BOOK
themoonwithin picked BOOK:
The book is far superior to the movie. The film hardly touched any of the books content, left out several key characters and storylines, and created completely unnecessary character relationships (here's looking at you, Lestat/Jesse). At it's best, the film is a nod to Anne Rice's work and more like an extended music video than anything else. At it's worst, it's poor casting, poor script writing, and poor cinematic execution of one of the definitive works in vampire fiction.
