Well... I can understand where they're coming from. If you're gay, wewe can't ever be seen as normal. People won't look at wewe the same, and you're forever confused and afraid. Also, it could be against their religion, and religion is the most important thing to a lot of people. The whole self hatred thing is something I'm pretty familiar with as well. There are countless times where I've wanted to be straight.

The upendo pembetatu thing was crazy, though, but so are human lives and emotions. That guy was just... he was weird, but I get why he's saying those things.
