Don't let ur upendo fall away. upendo as long as u can. If he's just not that far away I'd say just try to see him every few months au so.
But I really think u should tell him u upendo him. That way he knows and if he doesn't upendo u back then u can always find another person to upendo and can always be Marafiki with him.
