I'm not talking about watch a film that you loved when you were younger. I'm talking about playing with Barbie every day and watch cartoon shows that was made for children.

Fringe is a great show.

Enjoying a show that was made for children [regardless if you watched it when you were a kid] is being young at heart. It's finding enjoyment in simpler things, it's having fun without requiring elaborate plots and nail biting drama. And some kid's shows are really funny. They have humor that appeals to both children and adults. To completely dismiss them or the people who watch them is a rather narrow viewpoint and frankly I think you're missing out.

I think it's a bit weird that people at my age are watching shows like that and are playing with Barbie dolls.

^ What has Barbie got to do with watching kids shows? I watch kids shows and I dont play with Barbie? Besides, like Jacoblackswife said, would you rather teenagers staying indoors watching kids programmes, or out in the streets reeking havoc/getting pregnant?

It's not normal to play with Barbies and be 17. The definition of normal is what's standard. Playing with dolls is not a standard.

Im not even freakin' talking about Barbies, i dont play with them. I'm talking about watching kids tv shows.. If you say watching kids tv shows at this age is the same level as playing with Barbies, then you're basically saying we're not normal just because we like watching stuff that is a bit young for us. I, for one, love nostalgia. I love watching things that remind me of my childhood, when I didnt have a care in the world except what crayon to use. Oh and btw, whos to say that standard is the best anyway? To me Standard = Boring. Who wants to be boring? Dare to be different.

I do agree about the 'playing with Barbies' thing, thats a bit extreme (I dont mind if people do, Im just saying) but to me watching kids tv shows is fine.

Besides, some people LIKE watching cartoons.
There's Tom & Jerry and a lot of other shows that people watch. Some people just like reverting back to kids' age and just relaxing.

Do you think that The Simpsons or Family Guy is weird for adults to watch? I mean, they're cartoons yet a lot of adults watch them.

I like being normal, and stick to the norms that my society gives me. I mean, yes, Family Guy & The Simpsons are mature for kids, but anyway, cartoons are for everyone. Should it be weird for a parent to watch say, Spongebob or Scooby Doo with their kids and enjoy the cartoon?
Why should it be so weird? Just because they are cartoons doesn't mean that it's disturbing, or that you're any less mature.

Well, it's the same principle... If parents play with Barbie with their kids, it's okay, because then they enjoy the dolls with the kids. They are not doing it for their own pleasure. If they hadn't had a child, then they never would have watched the cartoon.

You don't see mature people playing with baby rattles. I know, we are not talking about rattles, but about 'letting your inner child out'. So? Do you think it's weird if a girl on 17 plays with a baby rattle on the street? And be honest, please. I think I know the answer.

And again: You're making me sound like I would like to forbid adults to watch cartoons, that's wrong! I think, and listen carefully now, WEIRD. It is not normal. Maybe you don't like normal, but I'm a fan, deal with it!

And on a note: Okay, so maybe I "don't like normal", but I guess that while we're on the subject: once again, everyone has their concept of normal. Watching cartoons is not so weird. I'm 13 and I like watching cartoons. My parents like watching cartoons-and NOT just for us kids- they do it for their OWN enjoyment, and they are very, VERY normal. Many mature people I know watch cartoons, and hell, some cartoons are better than some of the "normal" shows that there are out there.

So, maybe YOU don't like cartoons, but I'M a fan, and so are others, so deal with it!

Okay. We both have our concepts of normal.

Mine is this:
When a person is themself and is their own individual-to an extent, of course(you know, they're not stalking or murdering someone or anything)-and even if someone doesn't accept them, they stay true to themselves.

I know people who seem like no fun at all-strict people, people who are just so...boring, no offense to them, and others who are mature people who others think are so mature and normal-you may even as well, and yet they watch cartoons and find them hilarious.

I'm not saying that I watch cartoons all the time, but I do enjoy watching them. I say that I'm not weird for watching CARTOONS, because I do so much more than that, and saying that I am "acting weird" , and that since I'm not "following the norms" and that it's strange, JUST because I watch cartoons really isn't fair. I'm a fairly normal person, and IMO, I think it's really WEIRD to say that it's not normal for a person to watch cartoons-especially when you don't know them in real life.

So THERE. That's what I think of normal, and why I feel that I am not weird just for watching cartoons. Just because I am not following YOUR definition of normal doesn't mean that I'm not a normal person. (Perhaps that's not how you meant it, but after reading your last paragraph it felt that you have already just summed me up as weird just because I watch cartoons.)

And then I said that I thought it was weird, so I don't really get why we are having this discussion, because iit all depends on what each individuals thinks of the word 'normal'. I think normal is to follow the society. You're not normal in Saudia-Arabia if you are wearing a bikini. In fact, I doubt you would even be alive. But that is your opinion of normal. You are all entitled to your own opinions, but following the norms of society is not always a good thing. Years ago, the norm for women was to keep quiet and have no rights. It was the norm to be heterosexual and for homosexuals to be treated with disgust. Norms are not things that just are, they are socially constructed and change. Everyone ignores the norms and values of their society sometimes (this is classed as being deviant) and I believe it is healthy to do so.

I am not talking about discrimmination and such things. I am talking about our norms today, in the western society. Take a look at people who doesn't follow the norms: Drug dealers, serial killers, pedophiles and so on. This may be extreme cases, but it happens. If we had lived back in the early 1900, then I think we would both agree that it was the best for the women to sit down and keep our mouth shut. And that's okay, because that's how it was back then. They were raised to think like that. And I think we both can agree that in our time, that's extreme. If it wasn't for the people who changed these norms, we never would have got these norms until years later. But it will happen, when the rest of society is ready. Just take a look at muslims and their views on women and their rights today. More and more agree that their religion is way to strict and it needs to change. But they won't change it until most of their people is ready for it.
So follow the norms of the society may not be a good thing, but that was back then. We live now, and the way I see it, our society is perfectly fine. I think we are far too sivilized to have something major to change.

Anyway, yes, what katiecain said. But Monrose, there were women who DID stand up and said what they believed. Yes, they were thought of as weird, but they were right, and about the serial killer thing- yes, it is a bit extreme. We are talking about watching cartoons. You got to be an extremely....unique...(putting it nicely) person to enjoy killing, I believe.

Sometimes, following the norms is not that great, and yes maybe we are too civilized-although looking at some of the Americans I know here, I doubt that-but I believe that it's okay to watch cartoons no matter what your age is. Watching them is not "major", it's just life, and like katiecain said, I believe it's healthy to be out of the "norms" once in a while. (Although, obviously, we all have our own different opinions).

And I can't understand why we are having this conversation, because we both repeat what we've already said. You think that watching cartoon when you're adult is okay, I think it's weird. That is the key word here, because my opinion about normal is a little bit different than you and... whoever I discussed with. But it IS a bit weird that you said that everyone has their own concept of normal. I would rather say that every societies has their own concept of normal. Because the definition of normal is to follow the norms in the society. I can only speak for Norway now, and maybe America, I don't know, but that would make the interest in watching tv shows abnormal.
