#TMI Tuesdays: The Power of A Fandom- Make Your Voice Heard
My working 60 hours a week has gotten in the way of me writing TMI Tuesdays. That and reaching out to a lot of people to start a letter writing campaign to Constantin Films all about The Mortal Instruments TV. If you are concerned about what will happen with the TV show – well, I would tell you to write a letter to Constantin and tell them.
Because the reality is – no one knows what is needed and what is expected, more than fans.
But let’s face it, way too often in this world, fans are ignored. Fans are trampled upon like mindless drones that will allow themselves to be force fed whatever a television show or a studio has to offer.
That may have been the case years ago, but the great thing about the internet is that we are allowed to have our voices. Now, I will be the first to say that there is an abundance of people that abuse that power, and some of you may believe that I am about to abuse mine.
But it is what it is, and if you knew me in real life, you would know – I don’t keep my mouth shut.
Now, I know that many of you are up in arms and wondering how in the world they could think of recasting the franchise. To you, I say, how could they not?
Here’s the reality of what is probably going to happen (I’ll just put it out there for you, even though it’s not what any of us want to hear).
They will change relationships – hopefully to end up at the same end game, but who knows.
They will probably get rid of the Clary and Jace, brother/sister storyline.
They will change the adult storyline – thinking that it is not as important.
How do I know all this? I don’t. But what I do know is tradition, and the way that things are. I have been around long enough, worked in enough fandom’s to know – things will change.
But quite honestly, no one has the right to bitch about it, unless the make the choice to do something about it. As a fan, you have a choice – to sit back and take it or to stand up and say that you won’t.
I know to a lot of people, fans and fan sites are a joke. I know a lot of people sit and judge what we do and think what possible change can you make. Truth is – I can tell you that fan sites have made more of an impact than you know. And I can say that, because I have been around long enough to see the change. I have been in meetings, behind closed doors, and I have told a studio or two just exactly how bad they have screwed up (don’t believe me – ask TMI Source).
It’s true, studios spend a lot of time and money into the marketing of their movies, but what they think makes good marketing, doesn’t necessarily appeal to the fans. Studio’s may not know everything that there is to know, even though they would like to think that they do. They really have no clue as to what the fans want, even though they think that they do.
That’s why it’s your job as someone that is passionate about a franchise, to speak up. Let your voice be heard. Start your own campaigns. Say exactly what you need to say.
They may not follow you on twitter. They may not follow you on Facebook. But they have snail mail – and if you want your voice to be heard, speak up. Any studio or production company or person can deny your existence on social media, but they can’t deny a fandom’s power when they exercise it.
Trust me, Constantin will be listening, if you make sure you need to be heard.

Why on earth would they exclude the Clace siblings storyline? Or any storyline right when they have the ability to fully present it. Adult story lines won’t necessarily be left behind just because it’s teen tv, I’m just thinking of The 100 for example. Fresh young faces sounds good though (as well said in your other post). X
Just putting my two cents in, but from my understanding, they were worried in the movie how it would be received by audiences who hadn’t read the books and didn’t know the outcome, which would be why they watered the sibling storyline down in the first place.
MTV’s Happyland apparently received backlash before it’s premiere because of a similar storyline. Someone heard incest and that was all they could focus on.
That being said, there might be something to their concern, but being that they are adapting books, and the fan reaction to the watered down storyline the first go-round, I would hope they would consider that when moving forward with the TV show. I suppose, though, it depends on who ends up picking it up and how much the follow the failure of the movie. And of course, as Erin said, fans making their voices heard now.
I actually enjoyed the movie as it was. There were things I didn’t like, but I can’t say that there is a book to movie adaptation tat was perfect. I am actually concerned about all of the chances they could make because I have seen many books adapted into TV shows and they are unrecognizable from their source material.
I loved the movie but there were some things they could have done differently . I hope with this they remain faithful but explain things probably to non readers
