"Maybe I should just accept my destiny." – Lana Lang
Lana Lang is Clark Kent's first upendo and Lex Luthor's ex-wife.
When Lana was 3 she saw her parents, Lewis and Laura Lang, struck and killed kwa a meteor during the Meteor kuoga that hit Smallville. Ever since then, she was the poster child for the disaster; her cry of anguish was captured forever on the cover of Time Magazine. Her aunt, Nell Potter, adopted her and she wore a piece of the meteor that killed her parents as a mkufu in their memory.
Lana lived a mile away from the Kents and was admired from afar kwa Clark for years. When they reached high school, Clark gained the courage to get to know her and she became an important part in his mduara, duara of friends. Clark and Lana have attempted to have a relationship several times, but he is unwilling to trust her with the secret of his true origins because he is afraid she won't upendo him if she knows the truth. However, Lana knows Clark is hiding something, and this unspoken truth has always driven a wedge between them and prevented them from being together. Lana's relationship and subsequent marriage to
Clark's former best friend Lex Luthor has caused the breakdown of their friendship as well, even as Lana grew increasingly closer to finding out Clark's secret. Lana witnessed Clark use three of his super-human powers, but did not inform him. In another attempt to keep her from leaving, Clark finally told Lana the truth about his origins. However, that same day, she was seemingly murdered kwa Lex. It was later revealed that Lana is really alive but after faking her death, hid out in China. Lex located her and told her that she was free to return to Smallville if she wished. He confirmed that it was Lana's clone model 503 that was blown up to set up Lana's faked death. She later returned to Smallville and is now living with Clark and his cousin Kara.
