Spyro The Dragon Skylanders was originally going to be a mature game with blood and gore. What is your opinion on this?

I wasn't at all surprised when I heard Skylanders was aimed at a younger audience, seeing as the original Spyro games were really aimed at kids. But I did think it would have been nice not to kiddify it quite as much as they did, given the old Spyro fans are grown up now.
That said, I'm not sure if it needed to be gory, as that doesn't seem to be in the spirit of Spyro. Not even the Legend series with it's dramatic atmosphere was gory as such, so I think it would have caught people off guard.
I think that, while I'm satisfied what what they did with Skylanders, I wouldn't have minded it being targeted at an older audience either. As a fan of the PS1 Spyro games I appreciate the happy, cartoony atmosphere Skylanders has.
Perhaps a few jokes aimed at the older audience would've been nice, but I'm glad the game is suitable for new gamers too.
