so I just rewatched 4x04 and Sam was a total dick to poor Dean! =( I didn't really notice before since I was too caught up in the drama.

Yeah he's being so shitty to Dean! DEAN WENT TO HELL FOR HIS ASS! GAWD! lol. Sam can be SUCH a baby. Like in Season 1, and constantly defying their dad. It's such bullshit!

Ok, I'm a Deanfan and I usually pick his side, but in this case I'm going to have to come down on Sam's side. Sam's been a dick, it's true, just not really in 4x04. I mean, he's finally trying to talk to his brother about this weight he's been carrying. And Dean is too furious to listen at first. And the fact is, Dean sometimes does look at Sam like he's a freak! Although, the end line "Don't thank me..." is ungrateful, I can understand where he's coming from. And it's healthier for him to quit because of himself, not because Dean wants him to.

The reason why Sam didn't tell Dean about everything, he's explaning in that conversation - "the way you look at me, the way you talk to me...I've got demon blood in me " and etc. Dean thinks that having supernatural powers is always pernicious and he's wrong, because Sam had survived only thanks to this "crap". I support Sam. Dean should stop behaving himself like a jerk. OK, he went to hell because of him but it doesn't mean that Sam had to break down and commit suicide. He had suffered enough, don't depict Dean as the only martyr! He will never understand what it's like for Sam to carry this curse . So the only dick in this duet right now is Dean!

I disagree, Natalie88, they're both being dicks! Dean is prejudiced against Sam's powers, but with good reason. They come from an evil source and have already warped normal people into murderers. Dean should be more understanding of what Sam's going through, but Sam shouldn't have lied to Dean about it. And he shouldn't have used his powers. 4x04 is what woke him up. Seeing the Rugaru fighting against his own dark nature and failing made him realize that no matter how much he may want to believe that he can control it, there's the possibility that he can't. And considering the magnitude of that "if", he shouldn't take the risk. And Dean isn't upset that Sam didn't lay down and die after he was gone, he's upset that he endangered himself and went against Dean's dying wish by using his powers. Even if it's what saved Sam, that doesn't mean that he should have developed them. He knew it was wrong- he said to Ruby in 4x01 that he wasn't sure what he was doing was right. But Dean needs to be more sensitive to Sam's plight. They really should talk about it more, but it frightens Dean and so he avoids those conversations. Dean's just scared of what could happen to his brother if his powers did overtake him. He also hates it that there's nothing he can do to lift this burden from Sam. He can't make it go away, so he pretends it doesn't exist. Which of course isn't the best thing for Sam. Sam can't pretend it doesn't exist, it's inside him all the time.

fanfly of course neither Dean is saint, nor Sam, but I was just mad at Dean's behavior, sure I understand that Sam's developed powers was the last thing he wanted to see, but I'm glad that Sam realised that sooner or later it would ruin him and he'll fall in precipice of evil. I hope Dean won't put him under pressure any more :)

I hope he won't pressure him either, because I think it just drives a wedge between them! They need to stick together, dangit! :D

you both make fine points <3 but I still think Sam was a dick about it. yes, he has a huge burden to carry around but he could have been nicer about it, especially since Dean has been out of the loop for four+ months, as he was in HELL FOR Sam. Dean was trying to PROTECT him from the powers that an EVIL DEMON WHO KILLED THEIR WHOLE FAMILY somehow gave Sam and if you remember correctly Dean WANTED to talk about it and Sam was all like "nope. no talking. fuck off" (not in those exact words but the intent was clear .. =P)

and just GRRR. Sam really pissed me off in 4x04.

I hope you dont kill me for what I'm going to say, but I mean Dean went to hell for Sam okay, but he also did it for him, he didn't want to be alone without thinking what would Sam feel after he died. And okay he doesn't want to risk Sam's life by letting him use his powers, but Sam had to live with the loss of his brother for four months and he chose to do it his on way

Oh, they are both being silly boys! Sammy isn't being a dick, he's just been trying to do what he thinks is best, but he's misguided and made dumb choices. And Dean's just trying to keep his little brother safe but Sam's a grown man and no grown man feels like he needs someone to protect him.
Boys are dumb and they handle emotional situations in a dumb fashion, we can't blame it all on Sammy.

I think they were both equally acting like dicks to each other. I think when Sam said, "Don't thank me, I'm not doing it for you." I thought that was really ungrateful and rude, because what wouldn't Dean do for him?

I didn't think so very much at all. I mean, I'm all for fighting Sam's corner, and he should've told Dean sooner about what he was doing, but he was completely right about how Dean would treat him about it. Dean has always been very judgemental when it came to this stuff with Sam, as he rightly said to Ruby. And even when Dean does accept it and tries to understand, he can't possibly begin to. It's one of those few barriers between them that'll always cause friction.

^^True and I see that. But I don't think Dean is judgmental because he's being mean to Sammy or because he loves him less. He would kill, die, and do anything imaginable to protect Sammy, he went to Hell to save him. And I mean he was right to not trust Ruby and the demon blood, wasn't he? Sam trusting her brought Lucifer out of Hell and started the Apocalypse, so can't really say he was wrong to judge him about that. The demon blood did change Sam, he himself admitted that. I really don't think Sammy was a dick in this episode except for when he said, "Don't thank me, I'm not doing it for you." for the reason mentioned above. Or rather, I think they were both being dicks to each other. And yes, Dean was going to freak out about what he was doing, wasn't going to understand it, because it wasn't right and it was changing his brother. So I completely understand Dean freaking out about it. I think that Sam knew it was wrong, hell he said so himself, and THAT was his reason for not telling Dean, because Dean is his mirror. He could lie to himself and say it was okay because of what it was going to accomplish, but once Dean knew and it was out there, he couldn't pretend anymore. And I think that is the real reason he didn't tell him. I think Dean's phone call in 4x22 proved that he may not have liked what Sam was doing, but he loved him enough to try and understand it.
