I don't think there is a Cas & Balthazar spot :P
Here are my more detailed and possibly jumbled thoughts:
Castiel went through Hell, literally, to save Dean. They (the angels) laid siege to Hell for him. Fighting their way through it all. And Castiel, a thing of pure grace and goodness, fought all the evil and darkness of Hell in order to find Dean and put him back together and bring him back. The process of this taking so much out of him that it left a mark, a brand so to speak, on Dean's physical body, even though when Castiel rescued him from Hell only his soul was touched. (I think of the mark as a physical representation of how special their bond of friendship is, but that's just me) After this he got to know Dean. Not just this abstract (but I'm sure beautiful) soul that he had, but the man behind the soul. Castiel understands Dean on a different level then anyone else, even Sam, because he has seen Dean at his very worst, seen who Dean became in Hell, and yet still, through it all sees the good and the righteousness that burns inside him. The love for humanity, the desire to help, the feeling of worthlessness. He sees it all, and yet, even in his darkest most uncertain hour he chooses Dean to follow. After an entire existence of following orders, believing something is right and just and never faltering from that belief he goes against everything he has ever known because he trusts Dean when he says that it isn't right, it isn't just. And if we look at future Castiel, it's kind of sad and yet beautiful to see that no matter what happens, he sticks with Dean. You could argue that he couldn't leave once he became human, but the point is he stayed with Dean. He chose to follow Dean into certain death (I believe Castiel knew exactly what he was walking into) because of this bond they share. Castiel himself said it is profound. He died twice for Dean, if that isn't true friendship I don't know what is. And as far as Dean goes in this equation. Dean didn't believe in angels, he didn't understand how good that beautiful could exist in a world full of such evil and then an angel rescued him from Hell, and later he found out that angels were dicks and not exactly what they were portrayed to be, but his faith in Castiel remained throughout it all. Sure he gets angry and yells and fights with Castiel, but to me that just shows how close they are, because Cas could leave, walk away, but Dean knows he wouldn't. Dean knows that Cas will always be there, and I think that comforts him, knowing this is a friendship he can't screw up. People like to say that Cas can't say no to Dean, and more often than not that is true, but you may notice that whenever Castiel asks for help (like in FTBYAM Dean can't say no either) Cas also offers Dean a relationship that he can't have with Sam. Dean and Sam are brothers, yes they are best friends and would die/kill/any number of unspeakable things for each other, but with Cas it's different. Cas isn't Dean's brother. He's his friend. He's someone who willingly (after he stopped following orders anyway) chooses to be with Dean, chooses to be his friend. Someone who has faith in him and sees him for who he really is and still finds something in Dean worth saving, worth dying for. And I think for Dean that is the ultimate test of family (which I think he thinks of Cas as in a way) And as we know Dean doesn't take family or friendship lightly. Cas is really the only friend that wasn't related to him that Dean has ever had for a substantial amount of time (except for Jo) and that says a lot. Something else really important to this friendship that Cas offers different from Sammy is that Cas is the one who protects Dean, in most cases. With Sam, Dean has always been the older brother, it's always been his job to protect his little brother and nothing will ever change his mind about that, but with Cas he can be the one being protected. He doesn't have to worry about Cas as much, he's an angel after all. Which adds a really interesting dynamic to their friendship. And since I mentioned The End with Cas, I should mention it in regards to Dean as well, and I found Dean asking Future!Dean if he was going to feed his friends to a meat grinder, and saying even Cas, like that was the most shocking part of it because Cas means more than that, Cas deserves more than that and Dean knows that. He knows he (now him) would never ever send Cas to his death knowingly and let that fall on his hands without even blinking an eye. Cas is his friend and that means a lot to Dean.
Anyway I can see this turned out insanely (and I mean INSANELY) long so if you managed to read all that, hope it makes some sort of sense, if you simply skipped over it...totally understand. That's my POV on Dean/Cas though :))
Although I like Casthazar too x]
for me , dean/cass are the pick to take because rufus/bobby we didn't see a lot
and balty/cass...i don't trust baltazar
i miss the friendship between dean/cass...but i think cass is more a friend for dean than dean for cass...the only time dean helped cass that was in "free to you and me" i think he helped him just because he was lost without his brother because since this episode dean is not very kind with cass (who was always there for him)...i love dean but i'm so angry with him, he has no gratitude to cass and traited him like a servant...i would like to see a real friendship prove from dean to cass...maybe in the end of this season?...but anyway...I MISS CASS...
Dean and Castiel are great too, although we haven't seen much of it lately. Although I didn't much care for Cas in S4, I like how much Dean influenced him; leading to his rebellion at the end of the season. Their relationship in S5 was awesome. I'm a little disappointed with how much Cas has been acting like S4 Castiel this season but it's understandable. The Winchesters aren't his main concern any more.
Castiel and Balthazar are just...meh. Balthazar is such a wanna-be Trickster. It just feels like they're trying to make another Gabriel character without the Gabe. And he's just not cutting it with me. Plus Cas and him haven't really done anything together, at least not on screen. I just don't feel much of a friendship there; more of an association. They knew each other, fought together as soliders of Heaven [just like Cas fought with Uriel]; they weren't really friends.
