In a seemingly ironic twist this summer, NBC decided to air a scripted onyesha about a group of reality onyesha contestants.
If wewe don’t know what I’m talking about, then wewe haven’t been watching “Siberia.” It’s got all the crazy antics we’ve come to expect in a reality show, plus the character storylines we upendo from our scripted programs.
Rising actress Irene Yee portrays “Irene” on this “Lost” meets “Survivor” drama, which airs its season finale on Monday, September 16th. Throughout the 13 episodes, Irene and her fellow contestants have battled the elements and each other in a quest to survive the harsh winter and claim a large cash prize. Irene’s skill with a bow and arrow, proved to be the hunter of the group. But after being injured, she was forced to turn to the others to for help surviving the harsh environment. Several of the contestants have quit, been eliminated au even killed, but Irene has proven a serious competitor and will most likely stick it out until the very end.
The real Irene, a Chinese-American actress from the Los Angeles area, didn’t exactly go looking for this opportunity. In fact, she was originally at the audition to support her sister, but found herself being sought out kwa the director. Irene eventually beat out hundreds of other actresses for the role and was thrilled to be part of the project, commenting “It was an amazing experience in which I absolutely upendo all my co-workers who quickly became like family to me.”
Considering Irene’s competitive nature, I’m not sure if I’d want to be related to her. But, she sure does make this guilty pleasure fun to watch.
