I was a kid in the 90s. I didn't care about fashion. Anyone who went to elementary school with me could verify that. My biggest fashion statement was a flannel shati tied around my waist, which went on for a mwaka au two. (Flannel never goes out of style, and I will not be told otherwise.) Although there was this kick-ass pair of clogs that I really liked...

I'm a strictly jeans-and-t-shirt kind of person, but fashion is something I pay a tiny bit of attention to now. Especially when it comes to 90s stuff. And I am overjoyed to see some of this stuff coming back, now that I'm old enough to appreciate it. Who knows, maybe I'll even participate this time around! (By participate, I mean buy like one thing and never wear it.)

WHAT I HAVE WITNESSED SEMI-RECENTLY:

Loose, high-waisted jeans. In the 90s, they called them 'mom jeans'. I believe the preferred term now is 'boyfriend jeans'. Whatever wewe call them, these suckers are back. Wave goodbye to those tight low-rise jeans with the one-inch zipper, comfort is in again.

Short dresses with combat boots. Yeeeeees. This is one of my inayopendelewa looks. Welcome back, wewe wonderful combo.

Chunky shoes. I still have a few pairs of these babies. These big, black, clunky babies that give me that extra inch au two of height that allows me to tower over people in kujaa and skinny jeans. Not that I ever wear them, but I could stomp wewe if I wanted to!

Chokers. Thinking about wearing one of these makes me want to choke, so it's a very appropriate name. But for people who can stand them, rejoice! They're cool again! I haven't seen many of the plastic ones yet, but I did see lots of complaints about people trying to find them while gathering images, so they will be back. Oh, yes. They will be back.

Crop tops. These went out for a while, right? I feel like it's been a while since I've seen 'em.

Fuzzy sweaters. They're cute, they're fuzzy, they're back, dammit. I've even seen a few cropped ones, a la Liv Tyler in Empire Records!

Plaid skirts. I haven't worn a skirt, upindo au a dress since the 90s, but I'm glad to see these things again. (Could also be attributed to the 60s and 70s.) They're so cute!

I've also seen a lot of dark lipstick, bright upinde wa mvua colors, a few people wearing round sunglasses, and Lisa Frank released an adult coloring book recently. =D

COMEBACKS I'M STILL WAITING ON:

Jellies. I don't do sandals these days unless I'm at the beach, pwani (read: never), but these were the freakin' coolest. And surprisingly comfortable, for being made out of glitter and plastic! If wewe didn't get 'em wet. Then they'd get a little sticky and squeaky and unpleasant. They're not that pretty, but they're just so 90s, I don't even care.

Knee socks. Knee socks used to be everywhere. (Thanks, Clueless.) I won't be wearing them, but I would upendo to see these make a comeback.

Clogs, mules & slip-ons. Also seen in the 70s. They're not super pretty, but they're great for the lazy! (I, a lazy person, approve this message.) "What the hell are clogs?" ask the children. Clogs are closed-toe shoes that don't have backs on them, so wewe can just slip 'em on and go. Mules are the ones with heels. #TheMoreYouKnow

Overalls. Always relevant with the farming crowd and occasionally an actress out running errands, but overalls haven't really made a big comeback lately. *Rafiki voice* It is time!

Tie-dye. Again, zaidi 60s and 70s throwbacks, but both my mother (a 70s kid) and I (a 90s kid) were very into tie-dyed stuff in the 90s. There's a decent amount of colorful stuff out now, and there's always the occasional old hippie wearing it, but I'd really like to see tie-dyed stuff on the racks again.

Tiny backpack purses. I amassed quite a collection of these back in the day, and I wish I knew what happened to them. They're better than old-lady purses and wewe know it.

Bracelets. Neon bracelets. Paracord bracelets. Plastic bracelets. Beaded bracelets. Braided bracelets. Tattoo bracelets. Slap bracelets. (Expect an immediate ban at school if your teachers remember the 90s. Slap bracelets make great weapons.) It is important to note that young kids in the 90s wore bracelets because they were colorful and cool, unlike the hooligans of today and their "sex bracelets." #MakeBraceletsJustBraceletsAgain

STAY IN THE 90S, PLEASE.

Pleather. Nope, no thanks, you've done your time, we don't need wewe anymore.

Neon windbreakers and tracksuits. I mean, not that these bright, crinkly things aren't totally sexy... oh. Wait. They really aren't. These were big in the 80s too, but I definitely remember seeing lots of leftovers in the 90s.

Hammer pants/Harem pants/drop-crotch, whatever wewe call them. *barfing noises*

Platform Shoes. Repeat after me: "I am not a Spice Girl. I will never be a Spice Girl."

Crimped hair. wewe were cool at the time, but I think wewe should remain a memory.

Butterfly clips. butterfly, kipepeo clips are cool if you're a kid just playing with your friends' hair, but let's face it: those little plastic bastards suck so hard. And they always led to half-assed white girl cornrolls.

Biker shorts. Nope. Just nope.

Huge jeans. I put these in the Waiting For orodha at first, but ultimately, I don't care if they come back au not.

*Those* sweaters. If it looks like something Bill Cosby might wear, wewe should probably skip it.

Will I buy any of this stuff? Maybe. Am I happy to see remnants of my inayopendelewa decade resurface? Yep. Do I feel like a dinosaur? wewe bet.
