I think Penny improved. Alicia's (die) comment about Penny taking advantage of them would have been more true in the first season then when Alicia (die) mentioned it. And I think Leonard began to see Penny beyond her looks a little more, but none of them changed so drastically that you wouldn't recognize them, like it would if Sheldon began to look at girls or Raj started talking to women while sober. (No, no, no! On both!)
