First Look at jay Garrick in ‘The Flash’ Season 2 

The CW has released a first look at Teddy Sears’ Jay Garrick ahead of the character’s debut on season two of “The Flash” this fall.

The new image features Jay alongside Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), paying homage to the iconic 1961 comic book cover “Flash of Two Worlds” from The Flash #123, which introduced the concept of the DC Multiverse and Earth-Two for the first time. The landmark issue was written by Gardner Fox with pencils from Carmine Infantino.

“Flash” executive producer Greg Berlanti revealed that the set-up of the image is “an actual moment from an early episode” via Twitter.

In DC Comics canon, Jay Garrick was the first character to bear the title of The Flash in the period referred to as the Golden Age of Comics, and is best known as the speedster of Earth-Two, a parallel universe that is separate from the one belonging to Barry Allen. In the series, Jay is described as a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop.

“The Flash” will delve deeper into Earth-Two in season two, also introducing the villain known as Zoom following last season’s defeat of the Reverse Flash.

“Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said when Sears’ casting was announced at Comic-Con. “It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

Season two of “The Flash” will also introduce another iconic speedster, Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), who inherits the role of The Flash from his uncle, Barry Allen, in the comics. Another new addition for season two is Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten), a police officer and science enthusiast who catches the eye of Barry Allen. Patty is obsessed with metahumans and partners with Det. Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) but has no idea that her new crush is The Flash.

Two newcomers to “The Flash” and “Arrow” spinoff “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” will also make their debut on crossover episodes of those shows before the midseason series debuts. Casper Crump has been confirmed as immortal villain Vandal Savage, while Falk Hentschel will play Carter Hall/Hawkman.

“The Flash” season two premieres at 8 p.m. Oct. 6 on the CW.
