The Magnus vs Marius Battle.

Many people seem to shoot down the possibility of Marius being Lestat's Maker for numerous reasons. These arguments I have thought about thoroughly, many of them have been my own. And through discussions with Bendaimmortal I have composed the following article. This makala will look at different arguments people, including myself, have used to justify their choice in Magnus, that under closer examination seem to fall apart. These arguments are;

-That without the film Queen of the Damned, no one would have considered Marius as a potential Maker anyway.
-That had Magnus not turned Lestat, that Lestat would be a wholly different person to whom he is in the books.
-The different impressions Magnus and Marius would have on Lestat.
-The plausibility that Marius would meet and turn Lestat.

I will then look at how the story line might change had Marius been the sire, and if it truly is as drastic as some people seem to think.
I have always been a shabiki of Magnus, but for the sake of this makala I am to become Switzerland.

1) Realisation without the film Queen of the Damned.

The father-son relationship between Lestat and Marius is already in the books. Their attitude towards each other's like that of a father and son. An example of this is at the end of Queen of the Damned.

"Lestat! Marius will be furious if wewe do this! The cardinal rule is-"
"Louis, you're making it irresistible!"

Here wewe see that Marius has set rules, au boundaries. Lestat will, as the child, test these and his "father". And then away the reaction. All children do this. Another thing Marius does s give Lestat knowledge. And this is another characteristic of a parent, parents are meant to provide for their children, but also provide knowledge. Marius also saves Lestat, ans cares for him. So there shows his nurturing side.

And if wewe are to look at the vampiric side of things, when Marius saves Lestat, Lestat is dried up of any blood, and feeds off Marius, and so the majority of his blood originated from Marius, wiping any trace of Magnus out of Lestat's blood.

On several occasions Lestat actually refers to Marius as a father. In Queen of the Damned;

"Marius, do not be the angry father. Help me!"

And in Tale of the Body Thief;

"Marius, wewe turned your back on me. That came as no surprise, really. wewe were always the teacher, the parent, the high priest."

And then Akasha refers to Marius as Lestat's father. Lestat thinks about Marius and she says;

"Marius?" How scornfully she laughed. "Don't wewe realize there are no fathers now?"

And so I believe one could come to the conclusion that Marius could possibly be Lestat's sire on their own.

This point has been covered in far greater detail kwa Bendaimmortal in his makala link.

2) Lestat's Personality

If wewe have read my awali makala link then wewe will know that kwa the age of 17 Lestat had become fully who he is. For those who haven't, Lestat's personality is formed kwa his circumstances , he says that he was born restless, which makes sense, he is the youngest of his siblings, which instantly put him in the lowest of family ranks, his older brother Augustin, who kwa the time Lestat is 12 has married, is destined to inherit all that the family possess.

Lestat breaks rules because of a number of reasons, firstly curiosity and boredom, two things he has picked up through his childhood, secondly a thirst for knowledge. Through kusoma The Vampire Lestat wewe will know that Lestat's fear of death is because he believes after death there is no moment where wewe have a higher understanding, and this lack of knowledge scares Lestat. And thirdly, and most importantly I believe, is because he sees the other side as holding happiness. This stems from his childhood. He on two occasions find happiness, once in the monastery and the other while being a part of an uigizaji group, both occasions his family drag him back nyumbani and punish him for breaking their rules. And so this has created a warped reality for Lestat where kwa breaking the rules is associated with a happier place on the other side.

Understand this, none of Lestat's personality was stemmed from when he was made, what happened was kwa becoming a vampire he severed all earthly restrictions, and so was able to zaidi fully be himself, his expressions of him self became greater, his breaking of the rules zaidi extreme, and this is why many believe that Magnus gave Lestat this trait.

3) The Impressions Magnus and Marius would have on Lestat

While neither Maker would alter Lestat's personality, both would have an impression on him. Please realise that having an impression on someone doesn't necessarily mean that alisema person changes. Lestat will gain the following from both Makers;
Overcome his fear of death
learn how to be a vampire
receive financial stability which he desires
a sense of being anointed

Magnus

Magnus forces Lestat to choose between death and becoming a vampire. Lestat naturally chooses becoming a vampire, and through becoming immortal, death is no longer a threat to Lestat.

Some have alisema that Lestat had to learn to be a vampire on his own, but this is wrong. Magnus gives Lestat a quick run through of things he needs to know to survive, and makes Lestat realise his strength, through moving a large stone brick.

Magnus leaves Lestat a fortune of jewels and gold, and so this settles Lestat's yearning for money, this yearning stems from his poor childhood.

Lestat is a narcissistic person, and so Magnus telling Lestat quite clearly he chose him feeds this side of him.

Marius

Marius would try to help Lestat overcome his fear, and through helping him would turn him.

As a nurturing father Marius would try to teach Lestat the best he could about being a vampire, but also Lestat being the proud person he is would attempt some of this on his own.

Marius is wealthy beyond all doubt, and so this would draw Lestat to him, because of that yearning for luxury.

Marius would of course tell Lestat how beautiful he is, and Lestat will know of course that he has especially been chosen kwa Marius, which will all feed is ego.

4) The Plausibility of Marius meeting and turning Lestat.

I would like to note here that this topic was debated between Bendaimmortal and I until we cam to this conclusion. That it was perfectly plausible for this to happen for the following reasons;

Marius did traveled far from his island, as other wise he would not have seen the messages Lestat left for him. He is a lover of culture and art, and so naturally Paris would have draw him.

Nicki says to Lestat "There's a light in wewe that's almost blinding. And it draws everyone to you." This "light" is how Magnus came across Lestat, and undoubtably Marius would find this same light.

Marius says himself that he "already loves too stronly" certain qualities in Lestat, these qualities he lists where there in Lestat's mortal life, and so Marius would fall in upendo with mortal Lestat.

Marius would turn Lestat for numerous reasons. One would be to have a sekunde chance, as he feels he had failed with Armand. sekunde would be to help Lestat over come his fear of death. Thirdly, its an obvious option as they both would upendo each other, and Lestat says himself that untill he met David, he was certain that no person would deny the Dark Gift once they knew what it was, and so its likely Lestat would ask for it.

The Alternate Reality

And so the only argument left to base your decision is on the change in storyline. And I now plan to explore what would change had Marius been the Maker.

Marius on travels will come acros Paris eventually. There he will see Lestat performe. Just like the way Lestat saw Magnus' face, he will see Marius. Marius on the other hand will introduce himself in a far politer way that Magnus, he will ofer Lestat a chance to come back with him to the iseland, of course he will put in an enticing way. Lestat, through his searching for stisfaction, curiosity and other reasons will accept. Marius will of course leave some way for Lestat to contact Paris and his family.

On the island Lestat will become a vampire, and learn from Marius. Lestat will lose his mother to sickness, and I personally for the entertainent of it (don't think of me as cruel as I truly upendo Nicki) think that Nicki through his unresolved problems and his inability ot become the famous violinist he has the potention to become will spiral into depression and/or alcoholism and will die, either from liver poisoning au will commit suicide. And so he will just likein the vitabu loose bother Gabrielle and Nicki. He will not meet Armand though but this has its own solution as wewe will soon discover.

I do believe at some point Marius will introduce Lestat to Those Who Must Be Kept. Lestat being himself will cause some kind of trouble. Marius will songesha them away,but will reside living on the island, only to leave every now and then to visit Them, as is his duty.

And so Lestat's family, back home, will die and word will reach Lestat that his father is now in the New World waiting for him. Marius will urge Lestat to go to his father to face his demons, and reconsile with his father, not only for his father's sake who is on his death kitanda but for himself as well, for his own peace.

I believe Lestat will obay Marius and go to New Orleans, but will make no attempt to reconsile with him. And so the story Interview with the Vampire begins. He will find Louis, who is beautiful and fall hopelessly in upendo with him. And out of curiosity will turn him, just to see if he can turn some body. And then he shall create Claudia.

But when Claudia and Louis go to Paris, they will not stumble apon the Theatre des Vampire, but the cult under the Les Innocents. There Louis will argue the swali of evil with Armand, Claudia will be sentacned to death, and Armand will seek Louis company asa way into the new century. Louis and Claudia's modern ways, of dressing lie humand and socializing with them will cause a stir, and Louis not Lestat will break the clan.

From there on the vitabu shall be just like wewe read them today. This storyline will include a lot of deep emosion dealing with Lestat's daddy issues, it would probably include some scene where Lestat declares his upendo of Marius. The scene with Akasha will probably be simlar, with Lestat feeling disapointement and regret that his actions have caused him to lose his precious Marius. Whe Lestat hears word of his mther and Nicki's deaths there will be some moyo wrenching chapters which will make wewe cry. It will not lack in substance, au emosions. And I believe equal the original book for this. But the emosions portra will be different. Just as strong and interesting, but different.

Conclusion

Hopefully after kusoma this makala wewe understand that the only argument wewe can give for your choice is personal opinion as to which alternate reality wewe prefer. That weak arguement such as it will effect Lestat's personality is void. And maybe this will end the misinderstandings on both sides of this debate.

All maoni are apreciated =D

p.s. I would just like to thank Bendaimmortal as he helped me to realised a lot of these points, and further my understanding of this debate.

And I know there's only pictures of Marius and Lestat but I couldn't find any of Magnus.
