Chapter 26
The club of doom and popularity
“Glad wewe guys could all make it,” Meredith said, grinning like a Cheshire cat. “As wewe know I’ve called wewe all girl’s because the siku has finally arrived!”
All the girl’s around us squeal, I try to contain my excitement but my bright grinning face is a dead give away.
We’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, ever since we’ve sat at that ‘cool table’ au as Destiny calls it the doom table, in high school, we were notified of the awesome pranks we’d get to do. It was…a club so to say, only the ‘populars’ could be in it, so wewe had to be known, sitting at that certain table, liked and have your name alisema in almost one conversation every day. It was stupid really, but the chance to be in that awesome club, wasn’t.
It was created at a girl’s sleepover, with boys who snuck in, kwa the legendary Inviena Dorce. It was quite a few years back, in the 1960’s I think. Where it was technically a game, and to be a member wewe had to be maarufu and have them bracelet. Everyone in the school knows about it, but I’m not telling Destiny about it, I don’t want her to know.
Today was the siku we learned the official rules of the game, and pledged are membership, an honor like this meant a lot to me. Because only a few people know the real rules of the game, our…people, so to say, do a very good job of keeping it mysterious and secretive, which makes everyone want to be a part of it.
Meredith was standing now, being the leader of us all, she was aliyopewa rules and bracelet prior to us, and was going to explain it to us on this glorious day.
“All right girl’s, wewe ready?”
“YES!”
Meredith laughed. “Now, we know only a few things about this club, but today wewe all are aliyopewa free information, about everything. And right now wewe have to swear that wewe won’t tell anyone about our secrets and our doings.”
“Why?” Serache, Meredith’s cousin asked, looking scared.
“It’s the rules of the game.” Meredith snapped, before turning her attention back to us. “Swear?”
We all held our hands up high, as if we were raising them in a class to answer a question, and we all reached for Meredith’s hand. “Swear.”
“Good, now this club, is so to speak…a game. You’ve sworn to keep this a secret, but not your membership, yet. Now onto simpler things, the club’s name. We wanted it to be simple and have meaning, our founder named the club.”
“And the name is?” Serahce asked.
I shushed her.
“The drowning man.”
Silence as everyone in the room gulped.
“This club is basically a series of pranks for the lower chakula chain, ones who deserve it, ones who need to learn. Also, it tells us where wewe stand, which is us of course. We always come first. Even before family.”
That time Meredith looked at me, and I looked quickly away, she knew how important my family was, even though my parents were horrible, family comes first.
“Once wewe become a member, your in, and…it’s not so easy to get out, wewe have to do some pretty sticky stuff. Anyway, let’s get started with memberships. Bracelets?”
A girl appeared in the room, she held this box which the bracelets were in, she gave them to Meredith and quickly scurried out of the room, how I wished to be her right then.
“First, before we get into detail, wewe have to become a member. To become a member, which there’s no turning back now, wewe have to give us a prized jewelry wewe upendo to wear, and trade it for the bracelet.”
I instinctively grabbed my amulet on my neck, my grandma, such a sweet thing, gave it to me before she died. I remember clearly, she was in the hospital, her health was uigizaji up, she must’ve known because she handed it to me.
“Please no, Grandma, it’s yours.” I had said.
But grandma didn’t listen. “Please child, it’s such a silly little old thing, no importance except for the fact that a young poor girl found it in her time of poverty, take it, sweetie, let it live on. And one day, give it to someone wewe truly care about, someone wewe know you’ll upendo forever, as they loved you.”
I blink tears away as I see that the other girl’s are taking off necklaces, ankle bracelets, bracelets, watches, etc.
“Dorothy, what are wewe giving?” Meredith asked me sharply narrowing her eyes.
“Oh! I’m giving wewe guys-”
“Because that amulet is looking pretty precious.”
“Oh, this, it’s just a silly little old thing. Not prized at all.” I hide my smile as I alisema grandma’s words.
“How about the BFF mkufu then.”
I try my best to not look like I’m glaring at her, she knows that this mkufu means a lot to me, to Destiny. She also knows how much it’ll crush her if she doesn’t see me wearing it anymore.
She always wanted to be my favorite.
Ever since we befriended each other, she’d always tried to make me hate Destiny, au make me like her better than Destiny. She’d always insult her when I wasn’t around, and she always jumped at the chance to become my #1. Sadly for her that will never happen.
I take off my necklace, and set it in the pile of the other jewelry, Meredith smiling smugly, puts on the bracelet for me as and refuses to help anyone else. As if that should make me feel flattered, but it didn’t.
“All right girl’s!” Meredith yells much zaidi brightly. “Welcome to the group.”
I finger the bracelet, and I’m immediately angry, depressed, and drained. I didn’t want to be a member of the drowning man.
Literally.
I gasp as I resurface back into my own body, my own thoughts. Jessica and Cadence rush to me quickly.
“Desy! Are wewe okay?!” Jess looks worried and so does Cadence.
“Yes,” I say weakly, “and I’ve learned a few new things that juts might come in handy.”

Yeah Uhuh
Yeah Uhuh
Yeah Uhuh
(Verse 1)
I am in upendo
with the guy who is sweet
till we meet it isn't possible
(Chorus)
We need to meet
before we go Undercover
for each other
We need to meet
before we go Undercover
for each other
(Verse 2)
We haven't met yet
Still Single hearted
thinkin' 'bout each other
everyday
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Now & Then
Everyday, going separate
paths and ways
thinkin' we need to meet
in the middle before we go Undercover
(Pre-Chorus)
We never stopped goin'
separate paths and ways
passing broken hearts and scars
I'm gone, gone, gone, gone
Now,
(Chorus)
(Chorus)
I can't stand it any longer
goin' all crazy
when I get really lazy
Undercover

We need to meet before we go Undercover
Slowly,
Hand in hand,
We stroll towards the beautiful beach,
Never taking our eyes off the red sky.
We are together now,
And we face anything that will take us on,
With determination and unity,
Slowly.
The wave washes us into the ocean,
Taking us in,
Slowly, killing us bit kwa bit,
But we never let go of each other.
When we are together,
We will never die.
There is no chance of that,
It is impossible.
The power of being together
Surges into both of our souls,
And the angry waves crash against
Our faces,
But we still never let go.
We are undivided.
Nothing, ever, can keep us apart,
au even separate us.
Because, wewe see,
We are bound.
We are bound
kwa the ropes of love,
Forever.
Nothing,
No one,
Can cut those ropes.
Not now,
And not ever.
Hand in hand,
We stroll towards the beautiful beach,
Never taking our eyes off the red sky.
We are together now,
And we face anything that will take us on,
With determination and unity,
Slowly.

I look down at the snow below
Thinking of its familiar glow
I remember the trees that tore at my wet clothes
And the horrid wind that stung my nose
I tripped and had fell to weak to move
Thinking I had nothing to lose
My eyes began to close and I started to drift away
My mind refusing to disobey
It took me kwa the hand and I felt warm
Almost glad to be taken kwa the storm
Now I watch from up above wondering what I did wrong
And why I was one chosen to sing the angels song
Thinking of its familiar glow
I remember the trees that tore at my wet clothes
And the horrid wind that stung my nose
I tripped and had fell to weak to move
Thinking I had nothing to lose
My eyes began to close and I started to drift away
My mind refusing to disobey
It took me kwa the hand and I felt warm
Almost glad to be taken kwa the storm
Now I watch from up above wondering what I did wrong
And why I was one chosen to sing the angels song
With nails so black scraping away at rotting church pews
I tell wewe I upendo wewe zaidi than myself
But to understand, from me wewe shall receive neither money nor wealth
What wewe tafuta for is not emotion au passion, it’s much zaidi precise
It’s the golden fortune which comes with a price
So wewe take the deal and strike my head
Your beating heart, now made of lead
Allow me the peace of mind to soften the last deadly blow
Perhaps this is how our story ends of wewe the Raven and I the Crow
(Crows and Ravens, in European legends are known to symbolize death)
I will remember wewe always.
Will wewe remember me?
That is a swali for wewe to answer,
And not me.
I promise
That I will always
Keep the flame of memory alive.
The fun that we had will never
Be forgotten.
Even on foggy evenings,
The darkest of nights,
wewe will always be in my heart.
For I know that wewe will help me
Keep the flame of memory blazing
Always.
All the good times that we had,
All the fun that we had,
All the tears that we let out,
All the anger we let out
Will never be wasted.
Because every dakika of it
Is in my heart.
I will tend to the moto
Every night,
Recollecting all the memories we have
Knowing that the flame of memory
Is the brightest flame of all
And it will blaze on.
Will wewe remember me?
That is a swali for wewe to answer,
And not me.
