Chapter 23
The little get together interrupted part 2
Beth squirms uncomfortably in her kiti, kiti cha while Cal tells her about this weird amazing adventure he went on, Grey looks about ready to rip Cal in half and jump off a cliff at the same time with Talia getting in his personal bubble. Ryler helps calm me down kwa sitting inayofuata to me on the kitanda and talking about nothing, yet everything in particular. And Adam tries to bring back the lively mood getting another boarding game out and starting it.
I snort, ready to laugh my head off. “Battleship? That’s a two player game, idiot. Get out life.”
Adam glares at me. “You know how much I loathe life.”
I have to hold in my giggles. “Just get it, crybaby, that happened years ago, when wewe were a little buck toothed loser. wewe can’t seriously be holding a grudge over a game wewe haven’t played in years.”
Adam shrugs. “The memory still haunts me to this day.”
Ryler looks at me, and I laugh. “Okay, so were playing life when we were younger and back then our parents thought it was the only way to get us to shut up. So…were playing the game and Adsm’s predictions was he was never going to get a wife au children, he was never going to be successful, and…something else. But he just had bad luck.”
“In life!” Adam shouted.
“In the game!” I insisted. “That au our parents set it up.”
Adam looked thoughtful. “I’d bet.”
Meredith rolled her eyes, but I didn’t miss the glance of awe when she looked at him. Yep, my brother was quite a looker, and Meredith couldn’t help but notice.
“Ooh!” Talia boomed. “Life! Yay! I wonder what’s in store for my future, but I bet I know.” She looked at Grey when she alisema the last part.
“No wewe don’t!” Meredith barked.
“So I went camping once, during winter, stupid really. But my parents wanted me to go.” Cal was telling Beth.
Beth shrugged. “Must’ve been…cold?”
“So…apparently what’s going to happen at the end of this game is…” Sage paused. “I’m going to marry a hot billionaire, while Ali’s stuck in jail, and Adam is just a failure.”
Adam glared at her. “I. Am. Not. A. Failure. I will be successful!” He thrust his arm out, accidentally knocking his cup out, making the liquid splatter all over Meredith.
Ali whistled. “Yippy dog woe, your actually good at something!”
I laughed, turning back to Ryler. “Aren’t we a crazy bunch?”
Ryler grinned. “Better than being normal, at least were exciting.”
I look back to the spectacle at the table. “Yes we are.”
Ryler looks at me, carefully. “What’s with the hatred between wewe and…Barbie doll?”
I roll my eyes. “I wouldn’t say hatred, I’m trying. But she just gets so…I don’t know. We’ve never really talked before, she’s barely acknowledged me before. I guess we just got off at the wrong start, but I tell, that girl makes me so angry.”
Ryler shrugs. “What I don’t get is that it seemed that her and that excuse of a guy came here as a couple. But she’s all over Grey, and he’s all over Beth.”
“What?” I ask.
Ryler shrugs. “Beth looks ready to bolt, and he keeps on whispering in her ear, it looks like she wants to shoot herself…” he pushed. “Twice.”
I shrug. “Strange world, wewe think of one thing in the beginning and in the end…you get something else.”
Ryler doesn’t seem to realize that I’m looking at him intently, but I blush when I do. I feel a bit bothered at the fact that Cal might be going after Beth, but it’s mostly because Grey and Beth are together, and Beth doesn’t like him, not because I have a crush on him.
Or had, I thought, smiling at Ryler, definitely had.
“What are wewe smiling at?” Ryler asks.
I shrug, still smiling. “Just about the little things…that can make a difference.”
Ryler smiles too. “Such a big difference too.”
Right now, it feels like the whole world has disappeared, and it’s just me and Ryler. And I like it that way.

This is what wewe call the Earth
This is what people call the world
This is what we call life
We can't go on pretending siku kwa day
That good things will always happen
Stormy days will come, it's not a miracle
But the storm will end soon, and all will be clear again
Heavy rain's crashing against my windowsill
I think, when will this ever stop?
The thunder's crashing against the trees outside
Today's not going to be a fine day, but it will end
I woke up this morning and guess what I saw
Bright sunny mornings with a clear future
No one's gonna stop me from believin
The rain stopped and the future's bright again
Good and bad create our lives
We can't pretend that everything's gonna always be alright
It's hard to think that something's gonna be wrong
But it's the truth, the whole truth.
We can't go on siku kwa siku pretending
Everything's gonna be alright
But we know that sunny days will come out
Soon au later.
