Chapter 4: My Stuff is Off-Limits So Hands Off

James Rivers flipped over boxes searching for that one book. This book shouldn't have been this difficult to find. How could it disappear? No one knows about it but his wife and him. He knew his wife didnt want to gi near it lr the attic. He was positive Simone au Brooke didn't come near the attic in the past week. They didn't know that he was alway watching their every move. A concerned parent was how he thought of himself. He was sure they would never do such a thing even when he told them about the attic. He surveyed the entire room....

I looked around the platform, waiting. George leaned down and whispered in my ear. "Don't worry, Hailey. They'll be here."

I glanced up at him. He had changed after the battle, we all had. George, always the prankster, became zaidi serious. He had even talked about closing down Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. The hole in the side of his head, where his ear used to be, was still unnerving, but I learned to accept it as a part of him.

"I know, George," I said. "There's still a connection."

"You mean that old twin telepathy thing wewe had going is still there?"

I stood on my toes to kiss him. "Always."...

I like Blake. He seemed to enjoy having company with our six cousins, and they all looked excited to do whatever they were going to do tonight. That reminded me: what exactly were we doing? I had no idea. I decided to just forget about it and enjoy the rest of the day. We all ran out back and explored th backyard. Past the shed were woods like the ones we traversed to get to Blake's. I guess they were all around us. Dark and inviting and creepy.
We had a few hours to run around outside, then we were called in for supper. Jeb stood kwa the creaky back door...

"Come on Cheren! We'll be late!"

Those words; the voice behind them just makes my moyo melt. The voice of Touko Whitlea, the girl who I've had a major crush on for... I don't know, maybe 10 years now? I just wondered where she- the tomboyishly cute girl from Nuvema Town- was taking me.
It is her 16th birthday today... yes. Today will be the siku I confess my upendo for her.
But what if she didn't get over her last boyfriend, N? God, I hated that guy... who in their right mind would tarehe a guy with neon green hair? It's just not natural! But that's besides the point. She was taking me, only me,...

When I'm with you
I feel like the world has melted away
Like there's nothing but you
The power's inaonyesha between us

I'm always speechless when I'm with you
But sometimes the silence is worth more
Can wewe feel the eyes lock?
It's like the whole world has gone

We are the only ones
In this sweet endless heaven
And I always want to keep enjoying it
siku kwa day

When I'm with you
There's nothing else wewe can do
We are the only ones who have this secret bond
mwaka kwa year

We're Lost in this world
This deep, sweet large world
Where people from each country come to love
We're Lost in this world...forever

More days passed. Kyle didn't improve, he didn't wake, he didn't unimprove, he just layed there. His breath was slow and hard. His body would sometimes move, not a lot but it did. His head shaked against the pilow, sweat dripped from his body. Marafiki would visit Kyle after school, to see that he was going well, the they'd leave and it would be silent, with only sobs and little beeps from the moyo moniter. Just like the siku Kyle was found, only then there was zaidi hope and James didnt cry that time, he'd forced the tears inside. This time James sobbed,...

His eyes fluttered open, and his muscles automatically tensed. For a sekunde he was back in Afghanistan, alone, without his comrades, falling asleep unguarded behind enemy lines. He noticed how his arms were, like they had been holding someone, someone who is no longer there. Gemma.... The thought entered his head like a speeding bullet. The fact that she wasn't there made him think that she had never been, that he wasn't really home, and that he imagined the whole thing. But one look around the room, his eyes adjusting to the moonlight, he could tell he was in the club house. He really was...

Claire and I unpacked our belongings and put them in our own dressers and waited for lunch to be ready.
After a little while, Leila hollered for us. As Claire and I reached the doorway, we observed the stampede as the six of them pounded down the stairs.
When my little sister and I reached the kitchen, Jeb greeted us and handed us a bowl and silverware. At the head of the table, Leila stood with a ladle and served us plenty of food. I sat inayofuata to Makayla, and Claire sat across from me, inayofuata to Joey.
The meal was spent in almost total silence, save...

“I’m dropping out of school,” I announced, slamming open my locker.
“Why?” Lisa asked, glanced up from stuffing a jacket, a pocketbook, and a stuffed hippo into her backpack.
“Why do wewe think?” I asked. “My secret’s out. I need to drop out of school.”
Lisa rolled her eyes. “Quin, you’re taking this way too seriously. This is one of those things that everyone teases wewe about for one day, and the inayofuata day...
