Chapter 7
Bonding with an enemy
“She what?!” Grey asks, collapsing in laughter.
“Stop laughing! I’m being serious!” I whine as I hit him with my pillow.
“You and me?” He dissolves into another fit.
“Hey?! I’m not that bad!”
Grey nods. “But still…wow.”
“Mutual feeling’s buddy.” I say falling onto my bed.
After that little run in, I called Grey immediately, and I had to resist the urge to murder him the dakika he smugly stepped into my house. I filled him in, and here we were.
“Don’t worry, I’ll talk to her.” Grey says. “But I didn’t even know she liked me.”
I scoff. “Just like wewe didn’t know about those other girl’s who are on their hands and knees just to open a stupid door for you.”
Grey shrugs. “My moyo was wandering somewhere else.”
I feel my cheeks warm up, and I have to look away. It’s just so strange to hear Grey talk like that, all mushy and stuff, about Beth. I always thought he was this heartless monster, who enjoyed ruining girl’s dreams, but all along he wasn’t.
It’s always strange and awkward when he says something like that, and when I peek at him, his eyes are distanced, a small smile on his face.
“You checking me out, Jones?” Grey asks, still looking at the ceiling.
I scoff, even though my cheeks start to redden a bit more. “No, I was just watching wewe loved struck
face.”
“I do have quite a handsome one too, don’t I?” He asks waggling his eyebrows.
I hit him with my mto again. “Anyways, let’s brainstorm on some ways to get Beth to notice wewe more.”
Grey furrows his eyebrows. “You tell her how great I am, she starts to notice. How hard can it be?”
I scowl. “She’s not a member of your shabiki club, she’s a person who looks to wewe as a friend. Just keep on doing those adorable things wewe did that party, and let me try to work out the rest.”
Grey’s face reddens at the mention of his sweetness at the party, and I grin.
“Awww! Someone’s blushing!” I squeal, and Grey glares at me.
“I was just being kind and helpful,” he insists.
I give him a look. “You got her water, after trashing her drugged cup, wewe so upendo her.”
Grey doesn’t say anything, but opts to ignore me. He gets up from the kitanda and examines my pictures on my desk, I watch him silently, bored.
He picks up the picture of me and my gals, and he has a small smile. “You’ve guys been together forever, huh?”
I nod, “Beth and I sat together at kindergarten, Ali became our monkey bar buddy love, and then Sage came in middle school and we’ve been inseparable since.”
“I wished I had Marafiki like that.”
“Don’t you?” I ask, sitting up.
Grey laughs bitterly, “if wewe mean those leeches.”
“What about Cal?” I ask.
Grey sighs. “Yeah, I guess he’s my…what do wewe chicks call it? Bff?”
“First of all, we are women, not chicks. Secondly, yes, best Marafiki forever.”
Grey nods. “Then were kind of like that, but Cal and I, the time we mostly hang out, is at a party. I can barely remember a siku where we just hung out for no reason, there’s always something forcing au making us hang together.”
I shrug. “Life’s cruel, but hey, wewe have way zaidi Marafiki that actually care.”
Grey cocks his head, studying a picture of Beth, I remember taking it because the way the wind blew her hair made it look like a professional photo. It was absolutely fabulous. He picks it up.
“Hey!” I warned. ‘Don’t think about stealing it, get your own picture for your shrine.”
Grey rolls his eyes. “Shrines are a holy place smart one.”
“I don’t know what you’ve been thinking!”
Grey gives me a look, and I glare at him. Were like that for a sekunde before he puts the picture down.
“I wasn’t planning on stealing it!” Grey insists.
“Whatever, just hold out your hands where I can see ‘em.”

Well, this is a song I wrote.
I've heard it wrong
There's been a mistake
There was a time when I won and I knew it
We will go on and on and on and on
There will be no zaidi mistakes
For the future
We will fight through it all without complaint
We are the winners, my friend
And we'll fight through it all in the end
There's no time to lose it
Cuz we are the winners
Well, I know that it's been a great day
We've done it all
We've been the best we can be and wewe know it
We are the winners, my friend.
