Can someone actually explain to me Alice's story?

I never really thought about it/understood it...So could someone explain to me her story of how she became a vampire. I haven't read Twilight in ages when they explained it (I think it was in that book) I didn't really get it that much...

James didn't turn her. James was just hunting her. He wanted to drink her blood but was too late - she was already turned.
